I rarely leaving comments on youtube, but i was looking for a crunge cover, so i listened to a bunch, and you may be the only person who got the timing correct.
the sound production on your set here is really harsh but your explanation of the measures & arrangement is prefect and I SUPER SUPER APPRECTIATE THAT.
Great explanation I will try it tonight, I always heard what I thought was down beat on the and of 4,a lá cyyde stubberfield, making the James brown thing. Thank again.
I’m watching this as a guitar player all I gotta say is the drums definitely make the song, the guitar parts are pretty simple in comparison to the drum beat. Kickass song as a whole though 🤘🏻
I was having a HECK of a time trying to count it in 5/4. Thanks for straightening me out! I never did trust my handy Ye Olde Led Zeppelin Compleat* book to get the chord voicings right with these songs, I should have realized their interpretations of the time signatures may be just as dubious. And people wonder why LZ broke up when Bonzo died. . . Everyone is not replaceable. :) And I did suspect it didn't come in on the one either, but that didn't exactly solve the riddle for me. *No, this is not the actual title of the book. But I have had it since 1979 so it's not much of a stretch. ;)
Also agree on the interpretation on the B section (what JB was doing on the bass drum) if for no other reason that JPJ and JP were filling the bars. JB was at heart a jazz and blues guy. In the B section, JB was doing his job - comping. All he would have been doing is covering what was already covered. The A section is where he was doing his thing - which is weird because it would be in the B section normally where the drummer would take the lead and solo. Yet again, another reason why the song is a musical inside joke of sorts.
John Petersen thanks, glad you dig it. Once I figured out how to counted the transcription didn’t take long. I’ve recently added a transcription store to my website if you’re interested. I take requests too if there’s anything you want to see transcribed! www.davejohnstone.com
When I listen to the song I hear the start on beat 5, then the rest of the 9/8 measures but (I’m probably wrong) the last measure has only 8 beats before jumping into section B.

I'm going to play this video more than once.
The transcription is spot on. How long did it take you to do that? You're efforts are much appreciated!!

Your Vistas sound great !
I've been a drummer for almost 45 years and the crunge is top complicated, finally I dedicated a week slow practice and I play it perfectly.
