@@reneebrown1362 Yes - it's a measure of how much they trust Patrick, that they bring their babies along to visit him on his porch. The bear most likely to attack a human, is a protective Mama bear - they clearly love Patrick!
You know what would taste great right about now. Bird seed- there's nothing like birdseed to a bear that has not had birdseed for awhile. Ruby's heart is set for birdseed. Oh if only somebody was clever enough to come up with some birdseed. Thanks for the bear video Patrick

Ruby, the beautiful and agile pole dancer and tightrope walker! She is not at all bothered by the barking dog - she is so relaxed! I love how she lays down to eat (my bear visitors do the same). Ruby must feel safe. That's wonderful! Thank you Patrick!

Ruby’s good disposition and respecting boundaries makes her such a welcome visitor. Her technique on the railing is getting so good, I’m expecting her to maybe add a little kick or flourish when going around the pole. And that patch in the grass she’s always attracted to... she sure does a lot of sniffing there. Was anything buried there years ago? 😊

Patrick - I just read a NYT article about bear “overpopulation” and I thought that might be why you haven’t had bird seed out for a while. Naturally, there’s talk about “culling” (euphemism) bears. Why not neuter some percentage of the bears instead? They obviously tranquilize bears to tag them, so just do a little snip-snip while the bears are asleep?
If bears stop visiting Chez Patrick, I want to thank you for showing what bears are REALLY like, and how smart and gentle they are when they feel safe. Whoever makes these decisions should have to watch the twenty most-watched videos on this channel - THEN decide.
When I think about culling bears in 2023, I think “La plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose”.

If I were that close to a bear I would probably have heart failure.

Animals have their territory and know, to live among other existinh animals after a while.
A bear need to eat a lot for winter hibernation. She looks hungry and burrowing for bugs in grass.
Ruby is so adorable they way she climb up and around the pole’s ❤ and having to look twice to see no birdfeeds today either. But was that seeds on the ground?. Bears are territorial but they will share if there is plenty of food and resources to go around. Most likely Simone got displaced and the territory is now Ruby's.

Do you have an interest into your house on that other side of your porch? I would be scared to be trapped on the other end with no entrance into my house. She seems very comfortable to have her back towards you, so she definitely trusts you.

I think she is forging not out of hunger but she is feeling the pressure of winter approaching.
She is likely transitioning. In the summer months black bears eat, berries, honey plants and grasses. Come fall they need mast, like acorns and seeds to put on the weight for overwintering. If she is pregnant, the delayed implantation of her embryo won't happen unless she is "fat" enough and she won't have cubs come spring.
I kept seeing a Gary Larson cartoon as Bella and Chance talked it out.
Cool to see a little route change...and that two friends understand each other so well.

She always amazes me with her poll dancing. I love the way she also swishes her toossh to the right and left when she walks. I wonder if they keep coming if there aren’t any birdseeds. Or will they give up. Lol, the dogs barking has no effect on any of the bears. I feel bad for the owners of the dogs. Their barking would drive me crazy.

What is it about that one spot on your lawn that holds her interest for so long?! Every time she comes, she investigates that one small area. Patrick, your place looks lovely. What is that beautiful bright pink bush that we see flowering? It's gorgeous!

While i love all of these beautiful creatures, Ruby, I think is the prettiest and most graceful or them all! She handles that porch like she's been there all her life! What a pole dancing genius! Lol! She has such a beautiful coat too, all thick and shiny!
But she sure looks a little disappointed about the feeder's absence tho! NOT. HAPPY.
We are fast approaching fall, when most bears are upping their caloric intake for a nice winter nap!

Ruby looks a bit heavy. She looks like she has water retention. That means she's pregnant! Hooray, little teddies next year! Poor Ruby, now she's struggling with all this water weight and no doubt stretchmarks and morning sickness... please tell her it won't last and it will be worth it when she has tiny teddies to cuddle!

mmmm You have a point there . Now that you mentioned it it does look like she's gaining weight. It will usually show in a protruding tummy left to right it kinda will stick out and if she tries to climb the railing and she's struggling because of the extra load, that's a clue . We know now what it looks like after seeing Simone and her pregnancy and struggling to climb the railing.
@@Sunshinexoxo4795 Not just her tummy - her arms and legs look a bit heavy too. That's the water retention. Apparently it's very common during pregnancy, but I suffer from it despite not being pregnant. My legs look like tree trunks when it's really bad so I can recognize water weight from a mile off. Poor girl must be struggling! She could do with putting her feet up. The little teddies usually get born around early January. Wonder how many she will have...
She's like my mom - always do it the hard way. All she has to do is walk onto the porch then climb on the railing below the bird feeder.

I think she is very warm. I wish she could get a drink ofwater. She seems fatigued by the heat. She got off your porch rail as far from you as possible, I yhi k in deference to your ground rules a about space and contact. She is such a love.
