When I was a kid growing up we had a female come visit us just like that. We had a bowl of water for her to dip her food in because I don’t think they have salivary glands. It was fun to watch her dip every food morsel in the bowl of water before eating it. She loved bread. The next summer she brought her babies with her to eat bread and visit.
Sweet little fella, love how it stands up to beg for just one more cracker. So trusting and knows it is safe on that front porch with Uncle Patrick. Beautiful video and be safe.❤❤
I can see it even now, that Racoon will be telling all its friends and relatives about this guy who gives food away. The queue will be round the block.
Oh, my God. I love how she takes the treats with her little hands. So cute. Yup, I can see her swollen teats. She's definitely a mama. Boy, those mama's know where to come to get extra food to feed their babes, Patrick.
She’s got babies somewhere I can see her milkbar. Bless her she’s so gentle. But Simone better not find out about this or there’s going to be trouble.😂❤
I’ve been fortunate enough to befriend many raccoons over the years. I had a Mom bring her 4 babies to me to feed. I fed them dry dog food and they loved it. One of them even jumped up in my lap. It was wonderful and I felt so blessed to be invited into their world.

That was nice to have Rocky visit. In the UK, raccoons officially have not established in the wild, but sightings have occurred since the 1970s. Recently, raccoons sighted in Scotland.
Wow, I thought we didn't have them here in the UK! But we get it all now, apparently wild boar are back too. I think they were beig bred on purpose for release into the wild because they used to be native to the UK.
As other viewers pointed out: In Dutch: Wasbear, German: Washbear, Swedish: Tvättbjörn, all meaning washing bear. Allow me to chime in: In Chinese raccoon is written as 浣熊, meaning washing bear. The first character 浣 has the 3 dots/strokes on the left side, signifying “water”. On the right side is the character “finish 完” that give the word meaning and sound. This washing character 浣is used to describe washing fabric, or fruit and vegetable, as in completing the cleaning process with water. The second character bear 熊 is similarly composed of two parts: the upper part 能 means “capable or ability”. The bottom 4 dots at the bottom signify four-legged animal. Thus the word bear 熊 means capable, high ability animal. In Japanese raccoon is written as 洗熊. The first character is composed of the 3-dot signifying water, plus 先 which means “start with, or first”. So this word 洗 means washing in general. You wash by applying water first. The character bear is the same as in Chinese. So there you have them: Chinese 浣熊, Japanese 洗熊. Raccoon is not native to my Taiwan, but as with other cute animals, they were imported/smuggled, and some became feral.

That dipping in water has no reason at all. It is simply a habit/custom developed by someone & passed on. It is nothing more than a tradition.
