Any thoughts on this one (Z190) compared to the Z150? 1inch vs 3, 1/3 inch sensors pros and cons would be an awesome video, would like to no the pros and cons of each system! Love your channel, keep up the good work! Saludos from Texas!
Congratulations on the review, I recently bought SONY HXR NX80 for weddings and sweet sixteen to replace my Panasonic AG AC90 and I am very satisfied. But I also record theater and ballet, so I needed to know which is more sensitive in low light and which has a higher focusing speed between Panasonic AG CX350 or SONY PXW Z190. I write to you from Lima Peru and here it takes more time to gather the money necessary to renew equipment, and a proper decision is necessary. Thank you.
Carlos Torres I don’t know about the cx350 but I have a z190. It is NOT good in low light. I have an ex1 and despite being old it’s better in low light than the z190. I’m assuming this is 3 x 4k sensors needing a lot more light. Also in HD you can zoom in 50x which is amazing BUT the more you zoom in the more light you lose so again the camera struggles for light

Carlos Torres I’m afraid I know nothing about the Panasonic so I’m not sure which Sony is its ‘rival’. The 280 is twice the price of the 190 and has larger sensors so (presumably) needs more light and only has a 17x lens (the 190 has 25x) probs the same lens but the effect of the larger sensors. So I suspect the 280 is no better in low light than the 190 but I have no evidence of that. ProAV have reviews of both Sony cams on RUclips but I don’t think they mention low light performance unfortunately
I’d like to see a comparison between the z190 and the Panasonic CX350. I have a Panasonic PX 270 and I might be upgrading.

Panasonic AG-CX350. And I'm happy with that lightweight camcorder.
You're right Carl. A run n gun camera like this needs small chips so that you can have a long zoom and lots of dof to cover your mistakes.
But c'mon Sony, you need to start at a 24 mm equivalent to be anywhere near competitive, even though such short (actual) focal lengths mean you have to keep your front element spotless, and beware using wideangle converters and filters.
Sony have got the focal range all wrong in my view. Over 1000 mm on 2k while starting at 29mm? Phawah!
And next, a run n gun camera needs a bigger flip out screen, it really does. There's lots of room to accommodate a bigger screen, so go for it.
How's the camcroder for doing play with spotlights and changes in lighting?
i bought it exactly for that as You described it only negative what i have is that uhd recording is noisy and not good looking even at -3db...looks like tiny sensor not capable for that..
It does have a higher noise floor than the z280 and little z90 as they both have larger sensors.

you should show how you hold it in your hands. i hate these style cameras because you cannot hold it comfortably in your hand for long, even on a shoulder rig because its not balanced.

What is the best SD this camera? I have this camera and on one seems to know which is the best card that will work with this camera. I have a gh5 and the top end SD will not work please help.

How to set z190 camera for effective and clear visuals for news
Does the PXW-z190 have a fixed aperture (widest) of 1.6 across the entire zoom range (i.e., from 28mm to 720mm at a fixed aperture of 1.6)?
Any good recomendations for a wide angle adaptor?
Great video always focusing on the most important points. Interested in its low light performance compared to other cameras in this segment and price range such as Panasonic CX350. Are the 3x1/3" equivalent to the 1" sensor cameras? How about battery life as 3 chips seem to be more energy hungry than a single bigger sensor. BTW, nice location. Where is it exactly in UK? Cheers.

4 years on I’d love to know what you found about the low light performance.
I’m looking (this week actually) at purchasing the 190 but I’m concerned about it’s low light quality, even compared to the PXW X90. I’ve had advice that the Z90 is far superior which puts me in a spot. For filling sports (Aussie Rules) the zoom on the 190 is fantastic but it’s not going to be any good at all if it’s late afternoon or night game.
I would love to know which way you went sportFlow.

I currently own the z150 by Sony they're 1-inch sensor camera. I left my ex1r to pick this up for more convenience when freelancing in the event world but I'm find that the 150 is lacking in workflow, example changing gain without looking like you dropped the bricks also on the 150 the autofocus is horrible and why on this 190 would they include the more expensive battery than L series battery from Sony which is much more convenient for run and gun style filming. Is there time code in and out. And I think the question of low light on a f4 ramping lens is not great as well.
Hi.... I'm looking for my first camcorder for wildlife recordings. Huge zoom range is OK in Z190 but what about working in low light conditions? Wildlife is usually captured at dusk or dawn as you probably know. I'm at the beginning of my "camcorder research", so maybe you have any suggetions? What camcorder model should I look at? Thanks for response in advance :-)

The sad part is, a 1/3” sensor? That’s just a little too small. Only slightly larger than a smart phone.
The camera has three 1/3 sensors -- one each for RGB.

A perfect video camera for journalism would fit well on the shoulder. I'm sure this is a sophisticated camera that can produce lovely images, but it's not ergonomically correct for that kind of work.

We've been using 2 of these Z190s for the past few months, and they are TERRIBLE. I have used lots of different Sony camcorders, and this is a horrible misstep.
- It is dreadful in low light. You have to ramp up the gain to silly amounts to get anything near bright enough unless you are shooting in full sunlight. Shooting at night is a complete write off.
- I can never get a White Balance i'm happy with. Even when i dial one in, the colour always looks off. Often green. Always have to change in post.
- Have to add saturation in the edit, otherwise everything looks washed out. Skin tone especially.
A colleague of mine has spent a long time going through the settings and is a very experienced camera operator, and we can't ever get it to where we want it. Not sure if we got a bad batch, but these are horrible. Avoid.
I think mine is from the bad batch aswell.
happens the same with the Z190 that my job has to work with, i film in schools and unless the classroom has good lighting or big windows the image always look with a lot of noise. I don't know if you and your colleague managed a way to optimize the filiming but if you do please tell me how, thanks.

I still have my XHA1s its a great Camera I have used it to record Rock Gigs and as well as home use for our Holidays in South Devon Its had a recent service and is a great workhorse

Action cameras are way too wide and all have barrel distortion.
I have fireflly 8s 90 degree with a custom firmware that removes shaprnes, noise reduction, contrast and lowers saturation image is amazing! Am I the only one that sees purple fringing on all camcorders?
A worthless camera in low light. Used one a couple of days ago for testimonials and the result was crap.

Bonjour, pour avoir une très bonne image avec cette caméra, il faut mettre l'iris en manuel, na pas hésiter d'ouvrir entre F2,8 et F3,7 ensuite mettre le shuter en auto et pour finir mettre les filtres ND en auto également pour éviter le trop de lumière, et là on obtient une superbe image de qualité !!! car l'iris de cette caméra va de F1,6 à F11 et les autres model de chez Sony ou Panasonic, ouvre entre F2,8 et F4,5 cela veut dire qu' avec la Z190 il ne faut pas fermer l'iris de trop, F3,7 maxi !!!
