Muchísimas gracias, Ana. I have tutored over 1,500 people in college and graduate school and received a full scholarship for doing so. I never expected to receive anything, I tutored because I love to teach, like you so eloquently wrote about yourself in the above description. Your lessons are amazing. You present the material in a fun and intuitive manner which makes comprehension and rent ion of the material almost effortless. I have explored hundreds of Spanish resources - from books to courses and videos. You have found and employed what all of the others could not - that magical and intuitive "glue" that make the language come alive and live on in your memory, thus each lesson provides a strong and intuitive foundation for whatever comes next. As others have already noted, you are a very special teacher - Funny, smart and professionally excellent. Your love of teaching Spanish shines through every lesson. Your viewers actually "learn" and not have to memorize some cold, stale book knowledge. You bring the Spanish language to life! I'm learning more from your lessons than all of the other resources combined.

Fun fact! The English verb "to like" used to function just like the spanish "gustar" a few hundred years ago, so when you said "I like her" means "she likes me" in today's English. In Shakespeare you can see the old use in cases like "The music likes me not" to mean "I don't like the music." Hopefully that helps people grasp the concept.

Hi Anna, I liked the lesson.
When I initially learnt the verb Gustar, instead of meaning 'to like', I understood it to mean: 'to please, be pleasing'.
Therefore instead of using a Subject Pronoun, (Yo), one would use an Indirect Object Pronoun (Me) meaning 'to me'.
e.g. Me gusta el libro = The book is pleasing to me (= I like the book)
Me gustan los libros = The books are pleasing to me (= I like the books)
The beginning of the video may confuse new students regarding the use of 'Me' instead of 'Yo'.
I will be learning from your many other informative videos. Many thanks.

Just learning this, but that seems correct to me, in English it's saying the same thing with a passive voice. I wonder if this isn't some sort of adaptation by Latin to aboriginal speakers in Spain who kept some earlier syntax while using Latin - soon to become Spanish words.

Both terms are common in México, using either one is a matter of a local preference. I think maybe the term "víbora" is just what people use more frequently wherever she is from in Mexico. I live in the state of Sonora, and although we use both, the term víbora is more common here (example: we would never call a rattlesnake "SERPIENTE de cascabel", over here would call it "VÍBORA de cascabel".

Me encantan tus vídeos.
De igual forma no puedo decir "The dog disgust me". Claro que no, porque lo que da asco es el sujeto de la oración. Por lo tanto, "Dogs disgust me" o "The dog disgusts me". Lo mismo pasa con los verbos como gustar: "Me gusta el perro", "me gustan los perros". Allí les señalo que el objeto, "me", señala a la persona que está experimentando el cambio psicológico.
Sigue así me encantan tus vídeos :)
