I remember being weirdly obsessed and fascinated with this trailer on that demo disk. I remember playing it over and over having no idea I actually kept retraumatizing myself as it just seeped deeper and deeper depths of psyche. Being so young watching this, my brain sucked it up like a sponge.. the music, the creepiness the mutations, the overall darkness of this game magnetized me because death and chaos was not a familiar thing with me at the age of 8. This game definitely had an impact on my life in a way. Every experience you had as a boy shaped the man you are today. This definitely had a roll in who I am today.. Thanks parasite eve, you screwed up my head and I'm not even mad..
Test Drive Spyro Metal Gear MedEvil Soul Reaver Ninja I know I'm forgetting some. So many memories of just endlessly playing these demos. For me and probably many of you we got this demo bundled with our Playstation's so it's all we had for a while.
+cheddar07 WWF Warzone and NFL Blitz. You could only be Stone Cold Vs Heartbreak Kid and in the football game you could only play one half I think and could only be the Packers or the Broncos. And Pitfall 3D too I think...
Yea dude, totally. I remember playing the MGS demo over and over again. It was only the first level, but still. I think itwas only like 1997 at the time, I went from playing NES to PlayStation. That demo disc blew my mind
The '98 PS1 demo disc was incredible. Parasite Eve, Spyro, Metal Gear Solid.. etc. The Nostalgia is too strong here. Wow. I still have the demo disc, btw.
I was 6 years old the first time I saw the trailer for this game, and it has been permanently burned into my memory for life. I've never played the game, but something about seeing the writhing fleshy mass bring a Dinosaur back to life, turning an adorable rat into a fiendish monstrosity, combined with the overall horror, chaos and chilling music, it is genuinely unforgettable. I'll for the rest of my life never ever forget this trailer.
Same reason I own almost all the Resident Evil games but never had the courage to play them. I would stay up and watch my older brother playing. I had my head under the cover pretending to be a sleep with one eye out peeking from under the cover to watch him play. These games give me such high anxiety that takes me back to being afraid that zombies could smash through my window at any time!!!
Holy shit, I had the SAME demo disc that this was on many years ago, and I was always so freaked out and terrified at this. I remember just playing it over and over, so fascinated and creeped out at the same time. I never got the full game, but this scared the shit out of me...and still made me wanna play it.
Haha me too, It froze one time around 1:53 mark and I was terrified, yelling flipping on lights and then throwing in Spyro and playing it for a few hours and acted like I never saw that demo
I can’t be the only person who could only remember “crazy ps1 game trailer with opera and Statue of Liberty crying blood”. Literally had to put that into google to find this lol
I tried ps1 game with rat turning into monster or red liquid turning the city into monsters lol. Have no idea why this game and midevil popped into my head 15 years later but never played this only saw the demo trailer.
I had the demo that this trailer came with too! I remember being so excited for it finally come out and then being completely blown away when it finally did, this game is classic and forever one of my top favorites.
I remember my cousin playing this game! I was like 4-5 y.o. and it was sooo scary. Years later when he got married, he gave me his PS1 with a bunch of games and this was there. I never forgot Aya and the story o.o
Memories of that demo disc came flooding back. I remember playing this trailer all the time because it just creeped me out so bad. I would eventually buy the actual game and I love it. Thanks Square Enix, or Squaresoft as you were known at the time for creating such a genuinely creepy game!
i remember watchin this in a demo disc! that disc also had a trailer for rugrats and i would play spyro, musashi, medevil, and ninja.. ahhh good times!
@@Lethe69 I still have the demo disk! I remember me and my brothers sat in the dark watching this trailer. lol I miss the days when Playstation magazine came with demo disks every month! Now we just have betas. :(
The trailer that was in my old demo disc when I first had my Playstation console as a gift for Christmas enticed my interests to buy this game. I was so gravitated and pulled into the whole story and appearance of it along with the interesting eerie choice of music to convey a style to it. I absolutely fell in love with Parasite Eve and is now one my top favorite video games of all time. This game was truly a gemstone of video games.
Oh man..I miss this game and everything about it so much. At the risk of sounding like an "old person" I truly miss the way gaming used to be. The mechanics, the way they were marketed and sold. I go to look for new ones now and everything is ridiculously expensive and then you have shitloads of DLC's that by the end of it, you spent close to two hundred dollars on it.. I've had consoles since I was four but it wasn't until Parasite Eve that I fell in love with video games. Nostalgia hits hard.
Jess Ward Nostalgia not really I played this game a few years ago and beat it. I thought it was really good and makes me miss the way when gaming was revolutionary and unique
I still get chills seeing this trailer. I remember the first time I saw it at 9 yrs old. The visuals were beautifully terrifying, and the music went with it perfectly. I watched the trailer over 100 times back then and knew I'd love this game. It's still one of my fav games ever. Parasite Eve forever!!
The people burning in the opera theater, the rat mutating into a parasite, and the helicopters/jet planes trying in vain to destroy the huge bulbous thing are just burned into my memory. Can't honestly say that I dislike it either.
I never saw the trailer but my parents bought me the game for Christmas that year. I don't remember how old I was but it scared the hell out of me too lol
I believe it was for Electronic Games Monthly magazine right? I use to subscribe to them. Any chance you could upload a higher quality version of it than what is here? This one is so low quality at 240p >.
Back in my teens I was MESMERIZED by the eeriness of this trailer on the game CD for iirc Electronic Gaming Monthly. I watched it so many times over and over again in CRAZY anticipation of it's release. It was like the blend of my two favorite games at the time on PS1 Final Fantasy VII and Resident Evil 2! Sadly, somewhere along the line I forgot about it... and when it was actually released I never got around to playing it. I really wish they'd just release a HD collection or do an entire remake of the whole series.
As others have mentioned this was on my demo disk I got as a kid with my playstation. I would play all the demos a lot since I didn't have many games for a long time after getting the playstation. This trailer used to scare me as a kid, and I loved it. I would play it knowing full well I couldn't handle it lol. The part where the rat mutates HORRIFIED me and I'd hide under the covers during that part. Damn what a crazy memory.
Coolboarders, Spyro the dragon, Ninja shadow of darkness, Medievil, Metal gear solid, Test Drive, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, and a WCW playable demo And like 3 or 4 promo trailers including Parasite Eve and Rugrats.

Mitochondria isn't just the powerhouse of the cell. It's the ticking ticking time bomb of a nuclear power plant housed in the living inside the cells of every creature!
This brings backs great memories for PlayStation i remember playing this back in 2006-2007 along with Red Faction, Spyro, and a few other classics i cant remember the name of like a robotic spider game and another classic that looked like Max Pain but it wasn't even out yet and dont even get me started on those ps2 games like Tomb Raider Laura Croft, The Okage one of my favorites also Crash bandicoot wrath of vortex, Red Faction, and original Grand Theft Auto, or nindendo classics like Turok, Superio mario world, Marvel vs Capcom, Spiderman, and the list goes on for days do you want to share any good memories as well feel free to if you all would like to share classics
+Philip Mathew Haha, it's understandable, though, especially back in the 90s. The Japanese pronunciation of our "i" actually sounds like our "e," as in "key," so that may be what's going on here. I kind of miss those campy voice-overs.
+yermomsboxx in Japan they somehow manage at times to get in-house English dubbing (either a Japanese actor who has a really convincing western dialect or something to that effect) which is why you get pre dubbed titles (like the House of the Dead games for example) that end up sounding derpy as shit in western countries. it's weird but once you get used to it it's just kind of endearing haha.
Kinda strange the trailer had that pronunciation wrong even though the in-game dialogue has it right. At one part in the beginning after Aya tells her peers(boss) about the Mitochondria her main partner(David?) says, "Might-O-what?" or something. I always pronounced her name wrong though, I thought it was Aye-uh Bree. Sounds better to me personally.
I was so little when I saw this off that demo disc. I was so scared but so entranced at the same time. Probably one of the best trailers I've seen for a game. Now I actually have to play the game.
I agree with everything aforementioned in the comments. For me specifically, what first attracted me to this game was the box art and the warning of featured nudity in the game. It was the first time that I wasn’t attracted to nudity for be tittilated with a naked female body. Instead, it made me consider how nudity is executed in a video game and how it was applied to the context of the story. The production values in the trailer confirmed my first impression of what I imagined was a sophisticated story well above the average video game. Back then, I didn’t have the words to explain my feelings for this game or the skill to play it well. In fact, it wasn’t until recently that I watched an entire walkthrough to experience it. I feel like I deprived myself of a unique experience in gaming that was tailor made for my maturing tastes in gaming; however, I’m glad this exists and that there is a community of people whom also shared in my feelings for Parasite Eve.
This was the start of my obsession. I was only 10, I got my first Playstation, it has a demo disk, and my attention was drawn immediately to this. 11 years later, this is still my all-time favorite game. I even lost the demo disk, and spent probably 5 years off and on trying to find the name of the disk so I could hopefully find it on eBay. It all paid off, and for the sake of nostalgia I purchased the demo disk again. Ah, memories...
*Happiness* :) i have looked for this trailer for years. i fell in love with the visuals and the operatic remix of the song. Thanks so much for posting this!
My wife heard me mention this games a few days ago. My wife is awesome... I got it for my birthday! I remembered greatness but forgot just how great it is 20 yrs later.
I remember I saw this trailer on one of those Jampack demos back when I was about 6 or 7 years old and it brought me this eerie sense of fear and squeamishness at the same time and of course I never got to play it because of its rating then but remembered its existence as I grew older because for some reason this trailer was so shocking as a small child and thankfully I finally got to play through it as an adult. Interesting game, don't know why it had such a powerful impact on me that I remembered it for over a decade and caught up with it when I could later on.
wow.. i finally found it... THE FIRST real instance of fear I got from something from my playstation as a kid...the video I KNEW I saw on a demo disk but never actually played because it creeped me out so bad... I kind of wish that I played it now, but then I was scared shitless when I saw this!! it was such an odd instance of chaotic shock to my 7-8 year old self, and as a young boy, this definitely shaped some weird way of psyche and interest in horror as a child, without even knowing it at the time. and here i am almost 20 years later trying to search it up 'playstation 1 game about a virus'... finally, I can say i found it.
oh, man. i remember it all now. christmas 1998. i had just gotten the playstation. not only did it come with the demo disc with this trailer and the mgs playable demo, i also got parasite eve as my first ps game. oh, the good old days... i feel old
I seen this demo when it came out and the song got stuck with me for years never knew which game it was. Remembered the rat goggled it and finally found it freaking awesome
there was always something creepy and beautiful about parasite eve that made it stand out from the rest this game had its own style and we just get that to much now and days.
I’m shocked how so many people are making mention of how this was on the demo disc with Spyro and so many others, but how it also scared the crap out of so many as children! This trailer traumatized me so much as a child it’s not even funny! Honestly, I didn’t remember the name of the game when I first saw the trailer. The only reason I remember the name is because I watched a MojoPlays video on games you’d like if you like Resident Evil.
I still have that disc. I haven't played it in 5 years, but the trailer music still haunts me XD. Scared the heck out of me the first time I saw it, but now I've beaten the game, but still..seeing that at about age 9-10...wow
I’ve had nightmares with this video in it for YEARS and could never place where I saw it from. Like, legit nightmares of the rat mutating. Never ever thought I’d find this

Hideo.......we need you. Blessing has foretold of the beautiful future.
This game scared the hell out of me as a kid. It's pretty laughable now.
Guye Pursunn lol...yeah when you look at stuff like Silent Hill this is very tame.
Played this trailer countless times on that demo disk... Beautiful times
PS5 GRAPHICS 2020
I was so little when I saw this off that demo disc. I was so scared but so entranced at the same time. Probably one of the best trailers I've seen for a game. Now I actually have to play the game.
I still remember this from my youth! Great trailer!
I understand you on the nudity part. It was just a really really curious time in my life
I remember being so hyped for this. The first cutscene in the theater is burned into my memory
Ah, memories...
.
I just went back to the best part of my life. Thank You so much for sharing this.
That was the best demo disc ever. I must have played the metal gear demo 50 times till my mom finally bought it for me. I wanna go back in time.
I literally looked up nothing when I started this game and oh man was that intro scene a surprise!
This trailer definitely left an impression when I was younger particularly Yoko Shimomura’s music.
I had this on my PlayStation demo disc. I watched this so many times. Thanks for uploading.
I remember as a kid watching my dad played this. I always wanted to find it again man I gotta pick this up somewhere
This was so creepy as a kid, it's kinda weirdly nostalgic now
This trailer freaked me out so much when I was a kid
wow.. i finally found it... THE FIRST real instance of fear I got from something from my playstation as a kid...the video I KNEW I saw on a demo disk but never actually played because it creeped me out so bad... I kind of wish that I played it now, but then I was scared shitless when I saw this!! it was such an odd instance of chaotic shock to my 7-8 year old self, and as a young boy, this definitely shaped some weird way of psyche and interest in horror as a child, without even knowing it at the time. and here i am almost 20 years later trying to search it up 'playstation 1 game about a virus'... finally, I can say i found it.
oh, man. i remember it all now. christmas 1998. i had just gotten the playstation. not only did it come with the demo disc with this trailer and the mgs playable demo, i also got parasite eve as my first ps game. oh, the good old days...
i feel old
I remember watching this as a kid a billion times and being scared shitless. Couldn't sleep for days.
The demo disk with spyro, rugrats, ninja gaiden something, those were the days. I would spend many a day listening to this intro.
Since Square Enix and Forever Entertainment have recently teamed up for multiple remakes, I sure hope this one gets remade.
I seen this demo when it came out and the song got stuck with me for years never knew which game it was. Remembered the rat goggled it and finally found it freaking awesome
there was always something creepy and beautiful about parasite eve that made it stand out from the rest this game had its own style and we just get that to much now and days.
One of the best JRPG's of all time, and its not up for debate
I’m shocked how so many people are making mention of how this was on the demo disc with Spyro and so many others, but how it also scared the crap out of so many as children! This trailer traumatized me so much as a child it’s not even funny! Honestly, I didn’t remember the name of the game when I first saw the trailer. The only reason I remember the name is because I watched a MojoPlays video on games you’d like if you like Resident Evil.
Do you still get nostalgia from it? I do.
Never ever thought I’d find this
That Eve scared the CRAP out of me when I first saw her. And the response from the military is realistic also
Everyone spontaneously combusting was burned into my retinas
