Same which is why I don't know that I will like the Audible adaptation, as Tom is not the narrator. His cadence is impeccable.
I'm getting “awkward introvert who becomes animated when asked a question he likes” vibes from Tom. He even habitually breaks eye contact.
No wonder he was cast as Dream.
Neil answered my tweet a few days ago when I was defending him against anti-semetism. After reading his work for decades I had no idea he was actually Jewish. He thanked me and got to tell him how much as a Caribbean American how much Anancy Boys means to me. He was so gracious.

Tom has this way of morphing his voice to this deep mix of Neil’s, his own and Batman that feels like Morpheus’s speech bubbles turned directly into sound - he’s superb. It’s exactly the voice I hear in my head reading the comics.
He's actually the perfect actor for this role. It's so good --- and loved the series. Just finished it this weekend. Well done!

My goodness, Tom at the Morpheus-Death-episode - just nailed the whole iconic scenes. Perfect casting, very gothic vibes with lovely, light hearted Death and pouty Dream.

Tom is such an eloquent, passionate and intelligent individual who is able to portray a love for Neil's work and Dreams story in such a mesmerising way. The passion he puts in is so crystal clear to see. Its incredible.
Netflix needs to renew, so we can see this incredible Lord of Stories, Dreams and Nightmares continue on his path of change
Tom has a really cool soothing voice, I love how he portrayed Dream it reminds me of how Charlie cox portrayed Matt/Daredevil. Both created characters that are vulnerable but intimidating and the same time. And they use very interesting voices. I can seriously listen to their characters talk for hours and hours 😌

Fun Fact: Neil owns sole rights to all of the Endless... DC literally cannot produce anything with them in it without Neils direct involvement-- as it should be

@@LuizFelipeSchleder Probably this. DC is still 100% work for hire. Image is the only big comic publisher as far as I know that allows authors to retain the rights to their work

I power watched every episode TWICE and had unfortunately never seen Tom in anything before. To say that he EXCEEDED my enormous expectations is an understatement! Morpheus is beautiful, scary, gentle, aggressive, haunted, just…..EVERYTHING I had expected and more! This production did such perfection towards the written material that Tom seriously felt like a creature than a person in a show. There are simply not enough gracious things that I can say about this show’s excellence 😍🙌🏼

I say Tom is the perfect person to play Dream/Morpheus. Can't see anyone else replacing him. It they do, I ain't gonna watch this show anymore.

"Stop being Batman" that was hilarious, Tom did incredible job with his voice acting, not for a second I thought of Batman while watching Sandman, haha :D if anything there was a one moment when I though of Thomas Shelby from Peaky Blinders, but that was just a split second, Tom Sturridge created something unique.
Tom is genius casting as Morpheus. The episode with the immortal friend is one of my favorites.
Neil has been in my life since the 1980’s. He feels like a long lost Uncle you admire from a distance but have fond memories of.
Tom is the perfect Sandman.. can't imagine any other who could play this role.
"Everything he says has to feel like it's etched in stone" - it does feel exactly like that. Wow, Tom Sturridge knew how to deliver based on this instruction.
It's amazing how Tom, as someone who seems so young here can act someone who is endless, timeless and has absolute gravitas so superbly.
My belief in his portrayal of Morpheus was sustained from start to finish. Excellent work.
Brilliant! Neil Gaiman is one in a million, really. I'm very happy that this man will receive every moment of glory he deserves. I mean, don't get me wrong... He's already a bloody legend, but the "general" public of popular shows on Netflix need to get a glimpse of what goes on this beautiful and utterly genious mind of his. Thank you everyone involved in this. Can't wait to fangirl over Tom's performance. The man is our Morpheus, I can feel it.

Drops off hard after Episode 6. Dream vortex plotline was badly written/badly acted/boring mess. I was 100% with the show till Episode 7.

Change death skin color shouldn't be a surprise to sandman fans and i still surprised because the majority of cast it´s white.

Regarding eveything Morpheus says should feel like it's etched in stone, because he's seen it all and is so sure of what he says: Because of that, the character really felt old to me without being pretentiously heavy despite his young looks. I think Tom did a great job of that. Nailed it.
I love how the showpeople from UK are considerate of one another when one of them is speaking, and they genuinely make the effort to listen to one another despite spending hours and days in interviews and most probably have to listen to the same thing.
they nailed it with the casting. i absolutely loved this series, here's hoping there'll be more. gaiman's actually talking about episode 6, not 5 at 11:54. that was my favourite ep

I think the whole story of Dream needing to change after he was imprisoned and then returned to a very different world is especially relevant to what we're currently facing today. The world is changing quickly, and our dreams must change too.
Agree, I feel that's why I like the show. It's very modern but it doesn't feel modern. A lot shows try to show off while The Sandman is grounded and humble.
Did the original drawing artists (Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg) of The Sandman use Neil Gaiman as inspiration for Morpheus? The messy hair, the thin face, the way you can see his brain work before he answers anything, like he has a million answers ready and just have to pick one, because he has thought about all of it before. And of course; "King of Stories", it's a fitting title for Mr. Gaiman, no?
I think it's always been understood it's a mix of Peter Murphy, Robert Smith with a dash of Neil.

Bauhaus front man was the inspiration, visually.
Traditionally they turned to musicians for inspiration (apart from Death) - f.e. there's a picture of Desire that basically looks like a photo of Annie Lennox. But the costume designers have already shown a sense of humour, so I'd imagine they presented Gaiman with a Mini-me one day :D
Funny story but I believe Dave McKean actually photographed Neil to use in one of the covers!
Casting, in my opinion, is the absolute most important part of making a film. My heart breaks every time I see an amazing script ruined by poor casting. Tom was the perfect choice for this role. I’m hypnotized by his performance.

It is comforting to know that someone like Tom still had to go through the casting process. I cannot imagine any known actor being better than Tom, except maybe Alan Rickman, who is now sadly deceased and not quite the right casting age.
I know this is random, and no one has mentioned it. But, the when I was reading the comic, it was Alan rickman's voice I heard- for Morpheus

Wonderful to see Tom in this. Get tired of seeing the SAME people being casted over and over. What I love about the UK. The USA does films and you can expect to see the same handful of people over and over. Becomes so tiresome.
I was thinking this exact thing the entire time. It’s so refreshing to see other actors than usual and discover amazing talents. I had no idea who Tom was until this series, but I am glad he got the role.

I was thinking the opposite hahah! I always feel like Britain doesn't have enough actors on TV or film cuz they're always the same. I mean we see people from Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Ted Lasso - some of the biggest shows. And I'm not complaining, they are fantastic actors. I just find it funny. And I do love it when someone less known shows up, and can stand their ground side by side with these better know, massive talents.

I've never been so confident in an actor the way I am with tom sturridge. the way he talks about his character and the story and his whole understanding of it. his commitment to the role is real and pure alongside his talent and looks. he is gonna go so big with this one.
I read the comic many years ago and it blew my mind. Watching it on screen is such a treat. The production is quality.

In the teaser the word "Dream" sounded so great to me! If that's the consistency of the voice acting, I will love his portrayal.
The more I see, the more optimistic I am about this. Netflix has a very spotty record when it comes to adaptations, but with Neil at the helm I hope this one delivers.
I cannot imagine what Sturridge went through waiting for them to interview 1500 possible replacements.

I am so excited for this show and am glad they have Neil in this. back in literature class we did a whole class on the first book of the Sandman and i loved every single minute of it, the internal conflict, the change through the eyes of time. But sadly the syllabus did not approve of this type of literature. This kind of creative stories should be welcomed in schools.

Discovered the Sandman in 2008 when I was 13 and became obsessed immediately. Can’t believe that this is actually happening I’m soooo excited and so happy that Neil is so closely involved with it

This show is really going under the radar for a lot of people, the marketing for it is so far really bizarrely low key. audible adaptation had a far better marketing than what this is going with. I am not sure it has any audience waiting for it aside from some very devoted fans. Hope this changes soon

I can't wait for The Sandman, I have the books and I love the world that Neil Gaiman has created. Tom is gonna do great as Dream/Morpheus.
A few months ago a teaser trailer introduced me to this character, and I was intrigued. I mean, I love anything to do with dreams and the dream world, in science and even in fantasy. Newest trailer and it looks so wondrous! And now I'm finding out that this is a book/comic series, and Neil Gaiman is behind it? I must get these books!! And the audible. Where do I start!
@@delicedeluna1629 definitely get the graphic novels. There’s a box set with all of them. And the audiobook is great too! Benedict Cumberbatch is the voice of Morpheus.
The chapters people should obviously be stoked to see are the beginning, his escape and restoration, 24 Hour diner, Serial convention, and his moments with sister Death.

I am watching this interview to confirm if he really has that pout naturally. My husband and I watched the series and we noticed how he talks and even started joking around talking with a pout. He did an excellent job, it’s funny how I felt bad for his character and loved him because he was captured but then when he escapes and has that one track brain and he doesn’t listen, I didn’t like him and at the end, he starts to listens after he finds out the betrayal of his sibling, I started to love him again. So as an actor if you can do that I think you are an excellent excellent actor and very good at what you do.

I love this team! And I do love what Tom Sturridge did with his voice in his characterization of Dream. That deep, dreamlike whisper felt like the cosmos. And Neil Gaiman's creations--always astounding, immersive, inspiring! Thank you for bringing such a world and such an incredible character to life!

@@kryptikproductions3618 He doesn't have anything, because at that time DC have a code so it wouldn't show any nudity. Just like what their did in Marvel comics when Wolverine was outside naked their didn't show he is a man either.
Anyway how you look at it, Lucifer is know as a him not a her or she, it's not the same as their did in marvel comics towards Loki, who show up as a woman.
Again Lucifer never did that at all. And he/ Lucifer have many different types of aspects. All look different but their are not female's. Or know to be female's.
I'm absolutely in love with the show, the Audible audio books, and Neil Gaiman in general. He's my favorite, LIVING author, and a man he was good friends with (Sir Terry Pratchett) who's my favorite past tense author!
And now Tom became the embodiment of dream, as such Hugh Jackman is wolverine.
To be honest I'm envious of those who are experimenting sandman for the first times. I wished I could read it for the first time all over again

i love that neil was SO patient to finally bring this comic series to the screen. first issue was, what.. 88? (myself being an 89-baby) O happpy he finally got to do his version ( "more than american gods, less than good omens") for the screens! if you don't like the oldie-stylie comicversion PLEEEEASE listen to the audioplay with james mcavay as dream!!!!

A comic book classic and 1 of my favourite comics of all time. So happy Sandman is finally coming to our screens. It’s so satisfying talking to young comic fans and pointing out these characters and bringing new fans to a great story

I was a bit disappointed that James McAvoy wasn't playing Morpheus as he did such a fantastic job in the audiobook, but Sturridge looks great in the teaser. I can't remember having been so excited for something to come out in a while.
I love James, he is an amazing actor, but he does not look the part. He is a gorgeous man, but too corky and short, he doesn't have the elegance that is needed to play Morpheus... And I am a HUUUGE McAvoy fan, but I think Tom looks perfect for the part.
