Leviathans scariness can depends on thier biome. For instance, ghost leviathan in lost river is less scarier than ones in grand reef and void ofcourse. And it also applies to reapers in sand dunes being much scarier than near the aurrora wreck.
Nothing will ever come close to the primal fear the reaper leviathan from the first game gave me... That fucking roar that can be heard from long distances. Edit: i am and have been aware of the reapers hearing abilities 🙃
What I really don’t like about Below Zero is how the leviathans are only scary for a little bit. I stopped being scared of the ice worm and just got annoyed by it just from walking back to the bridge, whereas I have 250 hours on OG Subnautica and still get a sense of dread when I hear a reaper
Fr I have almost 200 hours, and the Repears and Ghosts still scare me even during my first time playing BZ. I was only scared of the Shadow Leviathan, but he got annoying really fast and they get stuck on everything
I think that might be because the first game desensitized us. My sis played bellow zero first and was terrified by below zero leviathan than when she played the og she was pretty chill even seing the reaper, not completely chill but like "oh, shit another leviathan. I got this" and straight up laughed when she saw the lava zone one. She dealt with the aurora so fast. So I think what game you play first change how much you fear the leviathan of the next.
Leviathans are large creatures that are on top in their respective food-chain, if i'm not mistaken, and although Squidsharks aren't large, they are technically the creature on top of their food chain in their area.. but wouldn't that make Stalkers or even Bonesharks leviathan-class?
The shadow leviathan had me talking to myself , shaking , crying, throwing up, calling friends for comfort. Absolutely horrifying creature. When I found out there was four, I gaslit myself into thinking there was only 1.
Ice worms instantly stopped being scary for me when I learned how to avoid them. It’s not even super difficult to avoid as they attack on a cool down so you can get a lot of distance before needing to prepare to defend again
I’m not scared of them per se, but every time I’ve played BZ and had to go through the ice spikes, it just breaks in so many ways. Usually my snow fox will just stop when I use the boost or I will deploy it and it falls through the ground or the ice worm being able to attack me through walls
They're even easier to avoid with the Prawn Suit. The Ice Worms do next to no damage to it, and the jump jets and grapple arm together makes the Snow Fox look slow.

Heres a story about my first Leviathan encounter in the original subnautica, which was when I didn't know Leviathans existed. So basically, I was messing around in creative and I made a cyclops with all the attachments on it. I never went to the Aurora, and I didn't even know the name of it, so I went to it. I was in a kelp forest near it when I saw something in the corner of my screen. Of course, I didn't know the Reaper leviathan (which was what encountered) existed, so I just thought it was a fish ir smth, but suddenly, I got launched out of the danm water (still in my cyclops) and flung across the whole world.

Man I wish the iceworm were better executed. Like its a great idea, but its so clunky. That sequence could have been amazing, you have a hoverbike, beautiful glacier landscape, but you're trapped in relatively close quarters with something way too big for its own good. Not to mention that the thing can sneeze hard enough to rhrow you off the snowfox, which means you're constantly fixing the damn thing. I hated the snowfox so much I just made the trek in my prawn. Somehow the heavy mech suit draws less attention from the worm than a bike that doesn't even touch the ground. They should have made the zone way bigger, way emptier, colder to actually put the snowsuit to the test, gate out the prawn with thin ice or something. Make the worm smaller and more of a threat. Instead of big single hits make it strafe by and give little cuts here and there. Make safe/warm zones few and far between. Make the snowfox faster and more agile, telegraph attacks to focus dodging during the chase, don't let the player hide from the worm with stealth, force them to engage with it. I know subnautica AI is not exactly amazing, but it surely could have been better than it was.
