The S2000 motor is so highly tuned from the factory getting extra power out of it is hard and costly. Honda basically put a race motor in the S2000 and make it reliable.
yep that's why k series is better, stock is on par with the F but it had more room for improvement.
Not on par with F stock, but defs a lot more room for improvement as you said
240hp vs 221hp, to me that's on par. both awesome motors nonetheless. NA k20 will fuck any NA 4 bangers out there.
frieddayfriday where you get 221??? must be best k series available. most likely ones you will get in the states between 160 hp (lowly 24s and the base 20A3) 180-5hp (base accord 24s) up to 200 stock with k20A2 210 ish with newer Z3
frieddayfriday best is k24a2 though. bolt ons net over 220. with tune of course
4:14 VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO!
VTEC HISSSSSSSSSSSSS
Its a well known fact that itbs are only really useful high up in the rev and with huge lift and duration cams to take advantage of all the added air and fuel. This is an awesome project though and hope to see more of it. Stroke the motor, port the head and throw a set of wild cams in... maybe even delete vtec :P just a though. Love the work guys
We are looking a bunch of options to help the ITBs show their full potential. Cams, longtube header, 3'' exhaust, all stuff we're looking at.
Will be great to see how it gains from all those mods working in harmony. I'm sure it will be an utter screamer. Can't wait!
+Tronald Dump work very well for turbo!
make donald drumf again
You guys pour hours of hard work into your project cars. Can't wait to see the finished project! Good luck extracting more power on the S2K!
Been saying from the beginning need a real high flow exhaust and that itb's wouldn't do too much but still a cool experiment. Stroker motors are where itb's shine stock motors just need a good intake and exhaust and tune to maximize their output since Honda already almost achieved that from the factory. Fun stuff
You're going take this beating and like it! You guys rock.
I'm at 312whp right now, inline pro 106mm crank, inline pro cams, high compression Pistons (13.5:1) sleeved, wrist pins, bored out throttle body. So far on the exhaust side in running berk headers and true 3" catless single exhaust. Tuned on aem v2, there's more i have done but I can't remember like inline pro valve train, arp studs etc. once I can get the exhaust side opened up a little more and find a better intake manifold I should be 320-325 hopefully. I have my vtec at 4400 and my 2step is at 6800. Oh! Just remembered ID 750 injectors, walbro pump, I'll reply to this message once I find the rest of what I have. Oh I forgot my tq, I'm at 193tq. I moved away from ITB as it was just sucking in hot air. If u do the custom hood mod and open up the 3 holes on the passenger side u actually get rid of a lot of hot air and don't have radiator Passover. I'm hoping to add a 50shot once I finish the build, just to keep those damn srt8 in check
+ for using a spill free funnel!
Also you guys will really get a good boost from cams and gears.
ITB's can make decent increases but there is so much work involved to get that extra power. Think I'll just go with a Skunk2 intake manifold and call it a day.
Toda Stage 2 Caaaams highcompression flap top valves, a 2 layer head gasket and a serious header with a 3 inch collector will make a night today difference.
I think people think of ITB's as a core mod, when in fact is a supportive mod! without proper lift and duration from the cams and supportive exhaust, ITB's won't do much more other than noise!
Regardless of the dyno results, very good information can be found here!
You need headers and a full exhaust to see the true gains of ITB's! More air in more air out.
My god finally something on the s2k about time!!!
You should make a custom carbon fiber hood scope that's right above the air filter that flows the air into the filter and make a air box around the filter so it only lets air into the intake filters and blocks the air from going around the rest of the bay, basically making an air box around the itbs and making the hood the lid that has a air scope in it, keep up the great videos, can't wait to see what the badass 2k on the track
We'll definitely be making a carbon airbox that we can route cold air to in the near future.
When I had my completely stock F22C tuned via FlashPro it made significantly more power and torque with a more linear curve than what you have here.
You either need to rebuild the engine or find a different tuner.
Wow just when I thought I watched all the good videos for today already... :)
same
the stock intake is awesome
i've had that issue with the stuck thermostat in the past. I deleted a throttle body heating passage, and deleted a heater core passage(I live in the Tropics, go figure). Some Thermostats operate 2 circuits: one circuit of coolant flow when the car is cold and the Thermostat is shut(Thru the Throttle Body Coolant passage, HVAC Heater core, etc). And the other circuit when the Thermostat is opened(Thru the radiator).
When I deleted a few passages by blanking off the ports, it caused an imbalance in the cooling circuit that made the Thermostat 'lock-up' and refuse to open even when the temperature was high enough to open it, and I had verified that there were no air pockets. What I ended up doing was rather than Blank off the ports & plug them. I bypassed those passages with Pipes linking the Hoses, so flow was maintained.
I hope this long winded story can help you guys out if you haven't found the fault as yet.
Good luck! And keep up the good work!! I look forward to your videos Religiously!
headers and exhaust!! do it!! maybe some titanium exhaust? that Vtec crossover is OMG
You got really similar results as I did, numbers are maybe not that impressive but the sound makes it worth it anyways :D
Looking forward to see you build some kind of cold air feed.
Just so you guys know, you can take the hood prop rod out of the stock location and use on the passenger side just below the fender. You'll see a small oval to slide it into and a corresponding spot on the hood, It makes working in the rear bay area much easier!
Yup, we use that trick a lot at the shop. Comes in very handy!
+Speed Academy sweet! When can we start expecting track days with the Badass 2000
Can't remember if you guys are still running the vibrant HFC but a test might give you more overall in terms of hp and torque. I am curious about having the jenvy filter vs off. I remember reading something about in a extensive thread on s2ki. Dropping the vtec engagement into the 4k rpm mark is amazing for our cars according to research and many enthusiasts.
*test pipe
sucking, blowing, ITB, vtech noises and dynos...this episode has it all!
i didnt hear no telephone noises ....
+Vega-Expert damn! Well, I'm not a Honda guy. Lol
Curious to know why you guys have not done any sort of alignment video on the s2000. This is one of the most important factors when you're out there on the track! I think it would make for a great video :)
you guys should put the baseline when you guys were stock, or try and find another stock Ap1 to go against. I just got tuned on exhaust and intake and was hoping to break the 205 whp luckily i made 218 whp. Yet im sure your #s in the mid range blow mine away
Not to hate on Sasha's work you guys should pay Brian at APH a visit. The man is an aem and s2000 wizard. His s2000 is a beast in it's own right. From other dyno numbers I've seen over the forums, you're definitely underpowered, especially for a dynapack
omfg the first 2 minutes you ragging on Peter had me rolling I made a 10 minute video almost 20 because I kept reminding it great job guys thanks for the great video keep up the great work from Orlando,fl
my friend has an ap1, he put headers and a 3 inch nvidia single pipe exhaust, 1k injector dynamics injectors. he makes 239 who on 93, and 242 on e85. might need to look into that exhuast upgrade.
Why the hell did he do 1k injectors? Such a waste
+Starke_fg4 it was for the e85 tune. plus he's getting built for a turbo.
He's got a synopsis sheet with all the numbers, plus the shop spent 6 hours tuning. I really don't I now all the details but he's got paper to prove it.
Is there anyway I can see that sheet? I'm looking into buying a s2k
Nice insight.Thought it would made more to be honest, but that sound!daaaaamn. What if you installed a different cam?I think it will be extremely difficult with the VTEC and all but it seems a rational step forward.Engine gets more air now but can it use it effectively?
We thought we'd gain a bit more too, but that's life when modifying cars. We know there's more potential in the ITB setup, so we'll go hunting to find it with some other mods, probably starting with a longtube race header and 3'' exhaust. Cams are a consideration, but it's tough to beat the OE cams on these engines.
Thought so too.VTEC cams are almost race-aggressive,that's why I thought it would prove a difficult mod.I mean, how much more lift do you need :P?Let's hope the upcoming mods will prove effective.Keep it up guys, you make me happy whenever I see your vids and I'm in a very tough time right now!
I would call the company (I'm sure you have) on that and all the issues associated with the itb's and the fitment issues. They need that feedback of little to no gain and at what cost? My friend has a Greddy ap1 s2k turbo kit with a larger turbo and still has around 380hp.
A peugeot 206 2.0 gti 180 is NA.....
Sorry under the wrong name... dammit :D
Yeah youre right. They spent so much time and money on making this fit, and with the current intake setup, its worthless (besides sounds). Hopefully with a better intake setup they can benefit from the ITBs, but I still dont think it will be like +50hp/tq, which would make it worth the time and money.
how about that aftermarket ivtec (designcraft ecs) system? might make more under the curve
Better throttle response is definitely a nice thing to have but how much did those cost and was it worth it?
I know this is old, but man, what an install for such minimal gains... "people on the internet said ITBs were basically just as fast as supercharged S2000s"
needs J's racing headers and a better exhaust (single J's racing 70RS or other single 70mm)
Agree. I got 10whp from Js headers, Js straight pipe and Mugen 2.5" dual exhaust and stock intake without tune on a F20C ap1. I think the car makes 209whp and was just under 200 before. Expensive headers but no denying that they work
How about Hytech or Spoon header, are they inferior to the J's one? :)
Roddy Yang I think for the most parts Ebay parts will make a S2000 worse as they will be worse than the stock parts, as the stock parts are mostly very good hence why it's hard to make all that much improvement on them even with big name aftermarket parts. Just IMHO.
TassieLorenzo
Spoon is indeed inferior to the J's Racing header. Hytech is good, but good luck finding one
You can hear the Vtec kicking in so hard
Damn that S2k is beautiful.
Whats up with that Red Miata in the garage? Haven't heard a word about it. / Great Video.
-Nothing- sounds better than a 4pot revving up to 9k on ITB's
4:13 vtech kicked in yo
Nice vid as usual, but damn, I was hoping for a run without the filter to see if it really makes that difference as some people on the internet say.
Anyway, keep it up guys!
would be awesome to see you put a stroker kit in the engine if you want to stay away from forced induction, there are some out there for not too much
about time!!!!!!
4 holes won't make much of a difference, in the LS there is even a bypass around the thermostat(helps regulate opening, also). If anything a few holes would be friendlier on the water pump, since the water would actually flow and not just chill there like in some designs
spitters are quitters!
for the money and the ease of tuning, I think supercharging would've been the best way to go for this car. not everyone will go itb's so I appreciate the uniqueness of the build. If you guys are going to add a cold air induction system to the itb's, I believe jenvey has the cold air box. or was it Toda? I can't remember lol. s2ki has it posted on the itb thread/guide
Hard to beat the bang for buck of a S/C setup, we agree. We've done the S/C thing before so we wanted to try something new, and we still feel like there's some untapped potential so we're going to make a few more changes before we call the ITB setup complete and go have us a track battle vs a S/C S2000. Jenvey and a few others do make ITB airboxes, but we're going to make our own with our buddy Kevin from C3 who helped us make the splitter.
Finally !! its alive!
look at this people say "it should of made More power"..
if you're in the s2k scene, you would know this was the out come.. s2k is not a economy car, were every part you put on a civic makes power... this engine had the highest HP per liter for 10 years and fastest mean piston speed for 10 yr till Ferrari beat it..you think the engineer's left HP out there..lol only reason you would do ITB is for a sanction racing or for looks.
i dont care about peak numbers, my smile increased proportionally with the Rpms!
Do some more with the frs/brz build
Please
Haven't finished the video yet, but gets an auto thumps up with humorous opening scene. Dave - "This episode, we're featuring Pete's plumber's crack...."; Pete - "Do I even have one??" AHAHAHAA LOL!
I'm actually surprised it made such little hp. maybe the type of dyno yielded lower numbers?
So, it seems the ITBs are more of a first step than a final destination. If more air is being allowed in at the intake, it's being restricted at the next choke point. Would that be the head? Does it need different cams, longer duration, etc?
That was a lot of work and money for basically no gains. But there must be more that can be done now. Exhaust seems like the last mod, not the next mod.
Yup, first step is a good way to look at it. Lots more still to come before we get the most out of these.
Might we see a ported head and some new valves in the future?
ITBS is more of a response mod than a power mod
To make a good itb setup you need meth ported head ported exhaust and intake on the block and cams with higher duration with headers and a strait pipe exhaust. ts expensive but you the s2000 can hit 310ish whp.A lot of money for less compared to a supercharger set up but the sound.
Definitely agree a header would help, cams, and lowering intake temp as much as possible, a lightweight flywheel wouldn't hurt either.
Awesome!
Don't let the PT tinder fans see this, there will be too much screenshot action.
Those ITB's sound awesome! It'll be interesting to see what flows well with those.
The bro smack talk.... lmao. You guys had me laughing the whole time.
more s2000 videos please. they been getting pushed back lately
Still want an ITB for my S2000. I'll wait until I swap over a f22c and do the whole Kpro mod on my AP1.
That Vtec cross over though
im with everyone else on this, should look at a skunk2 header or a toda exhaust manifold to pair with the itbs.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!
That VTEC change over noise :-D
get a single outlet 3" hks high flow. Ballade sports in Garden Grove Cali. says that's the way to go.
that white BMW with the red wheels tho
I've been waiting for this
Cams!!! and ifcourse a 3 inch exhaust
Did you ever get the car sorted for grid life?
that VTEC tho!! sounds so good!
Could you run two short trumpets on cylinders 1 & 4 and long onces on cylinders 2 & 3?
The "problem" with the S2K is it's actually pretty well tuned from Stock if your going N/A (stock internal). Going forced induction will get you way more power, especially if you have access to E85 fuel.
What kind of wheels are on the s2000? Sweet
Run the js 70rr and header. That alone pushed me more hp and torque than those itbs. Wow I was expecting a lot more power with those itbs. Sounds badass tho.
Marty McFlys' underwear!
Only the best.
ITBs and more compression and more cam duration and raised rev limit and better fuel
I guess this shows how good the standard inlet is...
Are those hankook rs3s on the front? if so, the tread pattern looks to be mounted backwards?
Good eye, Dave put them on backwards but we've fixed that already.
The front tires are on backwards
Thankfully I wasn't the only one to notice that...
I'm assuming my expectations and understanding of the value-add of the ITBs were off but I really expected to see higher HP and TQ numbers across the board. Maybe more tuning is in order? Supporting mods? If more "snappy" response is all ITBs can add, then it seem like a waste compared to a similarly priced SC setup. Hopefully someone can explain why Im wrong?
Do you think if they dyno'd the car without the filter it would have made more hp? less restriction? maybe even better throttle response?
My understanding is that PT still has the stock header and maybe the stock cat, and neither a 70/76mm exhaust yet either, which cannot be helping anything. :)
"But, even 5lbs of boost " Then it will be a boring forced induction car, like any forced induction car. N/a purity ftw, n/a with all the trade-offs, compromises and just more thought and consideration required is so much more interesting wouldn't you say Tyler? :)
***** Of course. Professional motorsport is expensive, they have that kind of fancy stuff. Turbos are popular for cheap speed with good reason. For example, 180SXs, WRXs, Skylines are a dime-a-dozen here in Australia :) But it's a question of quality or quantity? ;) I'd rather drive a 175hp Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV with Weber carburetters over a 350hp Nissan Silvia, any day thanks! I could not care less that the Alfa might have only about two-thirds the power to weight ratio of the Nissan. :P
I think it's not at all remarkable that the Nissan is more popular at your local hillclimb (or drift day!) given that you're talking AU$10,000 for a well sorted Silvia vs AU$30,000+ for a well sorted Alfa 105! (thousands of dollars just for the Webers alone...) Just makes the Alfas, or in a modern sense S2000s, stand out as being more special amongst the (literally) paddock full of turbo Nissans, Subarus and Evos [some of which belonging to Pete & Dave]!!! :)
Porting for the F20/F22 is almost not necessary if you're going all motor. What does make a HUGE difference is cams and adjustable gears. Adding a degree or two to the intake, and one to the exhaust with some decent cams will make big gains. Just be careful, lots of horror stories about cams chewing up the cam caps.
Needs those Hytech upgrades as well.
TURBO TIME!!
5 weeks.. any news on the celica?
"... I've never driven a car with itbs.. " immediately i weep for the old G13B carbon fibre suzuki swift he drove on this channel. :(
hahaha :)
You guys still gotta compare filter vs no filter.
is the cat is still on the car? try hytech cams and header! their set up uses the same ITB's.
still running a HFC, yes. Thinking about cams, thinking hard about longtube header, definitely going to try 3'' exhaust and a testpipe setup as well as build a carbon airbox with a cold air feed.
That's good to hear! You'll definitely make more power! Take a look at this article bout the hytech parts/ bolt ons
www.superstreetonline.com/how-to/engine/htup-0808-honda-s2000-tuning/
Needs race headers and 3in exhaust with all that air coming in.
Dem jokes tho...feel like I'm watching mighty car mods lmao
Finally
ITB POWA!!!!!!
i laugh every video you guys make…love the chnl
Almost 100k subs good shit
#1 rule for our S2000s. Staying naturally aspirated = expensive way to stay slow.
But so much fun and reliable!
definitely hard to beat Honda on this engine..as far as i have seen the best power gain on this car is to stroke it..make it a f24 and doesnt cost much in parts.. 200-300 in a K24 crank 350 for rods and maybe (no reason not to) keep the oem liners get a Oem liner compatible piston..
I raced my stock S2000 to my friends F24 and its a night and day difference.. he has a single exhaust 70mm..nothing else besides that and a 68mm TB.. the difference is 22s 100-200kmh my car and his is 15.5s..
BTW i have a CARBON intake manifold that you may want to test..Its one and only in the world.. email me about it if you want..i wont be able to use it since i am Turboed now and enough written..dont want to take any more comment space.
a nice header too for the 3 hp gain lol just for looks lol
Oorrrrrr you could try not installing the thermostat backwards..... 🙈
ok let's be real. At the start of the ITB project you said you wanted to know if ITBs compared well to a supercharger. I think a decent supercharger would have done better than 10 hp gains at 5 grand and 5 torques.
But they already have a supercharger on the FRS, it'd be boring to do a supercharger again. I think ITBs with, later, a real ducted-in air-box like a bona fide racing car is a lot more interesting.
What happened to the 1:18 lap goal that you wanted to achieve
waiting on more rubber I presume
Yup, got stickier rubber on the way. We have some troubleshooting to do first, since we ran into a bit of an issue at GridLife that you'll learn more about in our next video on the car.
Speed Academy Cool well...
152 foot pounds of torque? My Altima makes that lol but love the videos cant wait to see it on the track
to the wheels...no your altima dont have 150ft/pds thats to the motor not wheels...(if you talk of the 2.5)
(wich is total crap)
Vega-Expert yes i aware of this i was making a joke
crank tq is no indication of performance. its just the energy from one cylinder "explosion" how much work that can be done with it is hp, in that case your ultima aint shit.
torque literally doesn't matter. Gears exist to either increase or decrease torque in turn for speed. Read sasha's article on his website.
dos Santos i agree. if you know the hp output the tq output is of no importance
VTEC @ 4:47 is NASTY. a bit high at ~6800? though
What happened to the FRS race car
I think the biggest issue is no Race Header. On a K20A2 getting over 220whp is easy with just bolt ons and tune.
WE've looked into a lot of headers and none seem to make a lot of power so considering how pricey they are, money is better spent in other areas.
It must be different with the F series. But I think seriously worth a try. Maybe there's a guy out there making custom header for S2k that can make some decent gains. Because race header makes serious gains on my K20. Ah well I was just thinking of ways.
K series can take advantage of VTC. The head is vastly superior for power gains.
it only made ~200whp? wow would've thought it could do a lot more
V8 wins. No replacement for displacement
+Brian P I disagree, find me a v8 in street car, not a supercar or something ;) that revs to 9 grand. V8s may make more power, but that would entirely ruin the character and balance of this car
Josh Grundon Find a naturally aspirated pump gas 4 cylinder street car with ac and full interior running 11s. Oh wait only with a v8 or v10 or higher.
The S2000 isn't going anywhere in terms of power, unless you are a crazy Japanese tuner (they've got it up to ~300-320 in track only tune) or you go FI. It's kind of at its max from factory, which is both good and bad.
ITBs aren't a peak power mod unless you have some crazy setup, though.
e90/92 m3 and gt350 come very close and aren't supercars.
that white bimmer tho!
