Hello, greetings from Brazil! I just got this camera from my grandfather who brought it from Japan a long time ago and I’ve decided to start my path in photography. I’m really interested in analog photography in special. I loved this video because it gave me an idea of how the camera works, as other channels focus more on the technical aspects of the camera. Anyways, the photos are very nice! Thank you for this 😊
I was watching this video thinking you were a big channel, based on your video quality... then I noticed that, surprisely, you only have 912... You deserve more, Alex. Here's a new subscriber.
I miss those landscapes so much, you're lucky! Nice photos/ chill out music/ relaxing voice and good anecdotes : that was perfect thanks for this content ! Can't wait to test this camera now ☺️
Dolly in+smooth pans+drone shots=super cinematic photo blog!! I really like how you flesh out the environment when you combine the wide landscape shots with the closer up ones like at 5:19 and 5:55
It is super super cheap, totally worth getting in! If you do then let me know how you get on with it and if there is anything I can help out with. Thank you and stay safe out there.
Hey from Austria :)) I really enjoy your videos just like this one Absolutely fascinated by how good the fotos turned out and for shure the landscape too 🤩great video
Thanks brother...looking for this one. Just bought this 500n because of the lens that comes with it. But been really wanted to try film photog...and you've convinced me..awesome shots! Excited for mine... :)
Thank you so much! What lens were you lucky enough to have paired with it?? Keep me updated on your film photography i'd love to see what you capture. Stay safe out there.
I was given an EOS 500n for free. It works with all my EF mount lenses and it performs perfectly the photos I have taken with it have been very very good. I use Kodak Color Plus 200 film with it. Recently took to a nature reserve and used my Sigma 100-400mm telephoto with it just waiting on the films to be developed.
I had a few cameras of that era - EOS66, and two EOS300. If we forget the price for batteries (can be solved with a battery grip), the main issue I had is quality of AF. It wasn't always accurate especially in low light conditions. Bad AF isn't an issue with digital, but with film each frame is precious. So, I just switched to manual cameras of 70-80's. They almost don't eat batteries and I'm in a full control of focusing and spinning the aperture ring. Maybe these late film cameras are very good for start if someone doesn't want to invest too much $$ to a new hobby.
Exactly that, while I love being lazy and using auto focus I tend to be too afraid to when shooting with film. Manual focusing really feels like the way to go.
I’m very interested in getting one of these I’ve seen one cheap online with a standard lens that it comes with I think originally. How hard is it to get the photos off of film and onto a computer ? I’m interested but if the process is expensive I might not get it ! Any advice or recommendations? Thank you
Nice Video, Alex! Ive the same Camera from my father and think about to buy an 50 mm lens. Is this one on your Camera the Canon EF 50mm 1:1.8 II lens? Thanks
Nice video! Did you use the camera with other EF lenses? I have on with the kit lens but I'm thinking of buying something like the 24-70. It should work fine, right?
Hi do you have any idea what other films I could use or maybe a website where I could buy the Portra for an affordable price? I searched for them but one pack costs almost 100€ :/
Interesting video. A great camera, I picked up one for £20 including the 28-80mm ultrasonic zoom lens. It's absolutely mint. I've added your channel, hopefully you'll connect with another retro photographer?
Hey! I’ve just bought one of these cameras- but I know nothing about cameras or photography, I was wondering if you could recommend a cheap lens for it? It doesn’t need to be able to zoom loads, preferably something quite compact? Loved the video- subscribed x
Hey there Georgia so I am a sucker for a 50mm prime lens. Prime basically means that it is what it is, it doesn't zoom in or anything like that. 50mm is as close to what the human eye sees so the images have a beautiful natural look to them. It is ideal for portraits and other up close subjects. While I have a load of lenses I really do just stick to that size for everything even though the snobbier people in the photography community might tell you to do otherwise. Oh and just to be clear it's an EF 50mm lens that you want. I hope this helps, if you have any other questions just ask and let me know how you get on with it.
Thanks for sharing. I got given a Canon EOS 500n for free a couple of years ago and only just now decided to dig it out and try it. Looking forward to having some fun with it. Just hope I can find the right kind of batteries for it.
Hey there! So many people have gotten this camera for free which seems so funny to me. I just pulled mine out to check what batteries it takes just incase you haven't picked some up yet. It takes two CR123 batteries, here's a link to some, you might be able to find them cheaper elsewhere though. www.amazon.co.uk/Duracell-Specialty-Ultra-Lithium-Battery/dp/B00011PJCM/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=%2B123+battery&qid=1586428738&sr=8-8 Stay Safe out there.
Hello! Can you tell me how the little window on the back of the camera works? I've run out of batteries and can't get any more, so I'm thinking of removing the film and using it in another camera. When i look through the window, I see a purple bit that says "Superia 200-24-200". Does this mean the film hasn't been used, or that all the frames but 24 have been used?
Hey there, sorry i'm so late getting back to you. So that little window just gives you a peek at what film you have loaded up inside. So here's the bad news, with this camera you cannot manually rewind the film and if you open up the back cover to get at it then light is going to get in as quick as well... the speed of light, which means your film will be exposed and unusable as well as that you will lose any photos you have already taken. My advice if it isn't too late would be to buy one of those batteries from Amazon and just be patient. I hope I helped and wish you all the best. Stay safe out there.
@@clicks_with_alex Thanks! I did pull a big brain move though, that being getting tired of waiting and opening it at night. It was under roughly half moonlight, but I figured that between double exposures and the stupidly high latitude of colour film that it would be fine. Those batteries are bloody expensive, so I guess I'll tell you what happens.
@@jkerman5113 oh I really want to know if that big brain move worked out! Definitely keep me updated on that! Yeah those batteries are so expensive which matches the theme of everything film photography being expensive.
Hi there I'm not too sure what you're asking, what screen are you refering to? With the Canon 500N I manual focus most of the time, I find that to be a great way to go.
Hi there i think you are talking about that little window that gives you a peek at the film you have stored inside. In which case yes this is supposed to be dark and blurry as it stops any light getting in at your film but still allows you to check on what you have loaded up. It's not that useful of a camera feature but sure there you go.
Sure thing. So when I get my photos developed my lab will offer to put them onto memory stick for me, because I'm lazy that's what I do. However you can scan the film also. Try searching for videos about scanning film. Hope this helps.

Any EF should be compatible, but be sure to do a Google search first to check for definite that it'll work with your camera.

What Settings do you recommend for portraits with this camera?
50mm 1.8 0r 1.4 depending budget
is canon eos 500N better than canon eos 3000N?
are these straight out of the cameras images or you did some editing after scanning the negatives?
I've done some editing to them but nothing more than geberal colour exposure and contrast.
How did you up load the photos digitally?
