Greatest sports dynasty in history. By definition, dynasty means uninterrupted. 19 straight playoff series wins. A record that will never be broken. They didn't have a single hiccup along the way like all other supposed dynasties. Most mentally tough team who somehow always found a way. There were better teams for a single season, but the Islanders were a true dynasty during their run.
Love watching these old broadcasts, brings back memories and when life was simpler….plus the Isles won 4 straight cups!! Mike Bossy was my childhood hockey hero. I still use the #22, 50 something years later.👍👍
I cant believe this. I watched this game in NYC (Queens) on Channel 9 WOR. In Black and White. Back then the NY area could only see the away games and not home unless you had WHT / Sportschannel. Im 11 years old all over again!
Watch Bossy on the PP goal that made it 2 to 1. Besides all his talent, shot and release, what made him the greatest pure goal scorer of his generation was his sense of where to be and how to get himself open by the net. Watch how he moves himself to get open by the side of the net to tap in the rebound into a wide open net. Bossy was always one step ahead in positioning. Was there a doubt on Bossy second goal , crusing down the slot that he was scoring. I remember watching live, as soon as Trottier hit him with that perfect pass, it was 3 to 1. Everyone remembers the in the air goal, but all 3 showed all the different reasons why Bossy was Bossy! A very underated and appreciated passer as well, but if you watched him every game like a lot of us, you knew!!!
The Islanders were the most complete team I've ever watched. My Canucks were unfortunate not to have won that first game. King Richard should have stayed in his crease. Could have been a very interesting series. I hope the Islanders can reach great respectability and stability again. Was one of the best organizations in pro sports.
canucks blew their chance could of won either game 1 or 2 or maybe both on island. isles played sloppy and smith was not sharp at all. games 3 and 4 smith was stopping everything
Gosh I miss. Smitty. Mike. Trots. Clarke. Bobby. N. Kenny and(respectfully) the rest of my Islanders. They won 19 straight playoff series wow😳 💖since 1972
19 series in a row, will NEVER be matched or broken. 4 cups in a row and 5 finals in a row will never be matched. It took its toll on them physically. It was amazing that they made it to the finals in the drive for five. They were so hurt and beat up. All that said, it took help from the NHL to beat them. At the last second the NHL decided to go to a 2-3-2 format instead of the 2-2-1-1-1 that they always had. The killer game was game 1 at the Coliseum. The Islanders lost 1-0. They blew out the Oilers like 7-2 in game 2. I will always believe that if they went to Edmonton ip 2 to 0, they win the series. Even if they came back fown 3 to 2, they would have won 6 and 7 at home, the Islanders home record in the finals was 17-1, AMAZING! RIP, AL, BILL and Clarke.
The Islanders and their Dynasty was an incredibly poised team. Truly indicative of their OUTSTANDING coach. The were the perfect package. And could play any style, and did it extremely well. The most impressive, resilient team I have have ever seen . Those who really know hockey, understand how good this team was.
Bossy was pretty fast too, kinda 2nd to 3rd gear Turbo bust to escape his marker. But Mike had Brian......you know....that hockey Mastermind...Isles were Trottier's team and he deserves a better Legacy than that.

Yes indeed the Vancouver Canucks were severe underdogs against one of the great dynasties in the New York Islanders in 1982. The Canucks played great in the playoffs, despite the lousy ( below .500) regular season record in 1982. Clearly, the better team won and the Isles deserved the 1982 Stanley Cup Title!
Was this series also on the USA cable network? I ask this because this took place during the time when there were no NHL games on U.S. network television (between game 6 of the 1980 Stanley Cup final and the 1990 All-Star Game).
Canuck’s had no business being there. But it shows how a team can peak at the right time and get to the finals. Too many slobs and goons on the team to take on the Islanders. Clark Gilles once said their practices were tougher than this series. 🤣😂 🤓
Strongly disagree. Even Denis Potvin said that the underdog Canucks earned every right being in the finals. He said the Canucks eliminated teams that eliminated better hockey teams and were trying to do the same to the Islanders. They could have easily won the first 2 games of the final. The Canucks had 3 enforcers in Tiger Williams, Curt Fraser and Ron Delorme but overall, had a tough and hardworking team that had one another's backs. They had excellent forwards in Thomas Gradin whose play on the 3-2 goal in Game 2 was the play of the '82 final, Stan Smyl, one of the best all-around players in the NHL, Ivan Boldirev and Darcy Rota. Despite his Game 1 OT blunder, Harold Snepsts was one of the best stay-at-home defensemen in the NHL 'King' Richard Brodeur was one of the NHL's better goalies that season and he was the 2nd best goalie in the '82 playoffs after Billy Smith. The Canucks were unbeaten in their final 9 games of the regular season and were 11 and 2 in the first 3 rounds of the playoffs. The Canucks were also missing 2 key defensemen...captain Kevin McCarthy and young offensive d-man Rick Lanz due to injuries. They also had the worst travel in the NHL due to geographic location.
Was there ever a doubt by anybody that The New York Islanders were going to defeat The Vancouver Canucks in four straight games? This series wasn't even a contest. The Vancouver Canucks didn't even belong on the same ice with The New York Islanders.
Go New York Rangers, I am a New York Rangers fan. I am watching this game to see some 1980’s era Stanley Cup Hockey. But this is not to deny credit where it is due in complement the New York Islanders for their success that they most assuredly had in the NHL during the decade that was the 1980’s in its early part of that decade. So congratulations on that impressive feat accomplished by the New York Islanders during that stretch yet I say these kind sentiments in no uncertain terms that I firmly say these following words: Go New York Rangers!
4-game sweep of the Oilers the following year. The Canucks scored 10 goals vs Islanders. Game 2 was also close. Vancouver led 3-2 after the 2nd period before losing 6-4. The Oilers scored only 6 goals vs Islanders in '83 Final.
I think it really sucks that the Islanders didn't get a parade in the canyon of heroes. I know they're not technically a New York City team, but come on! They are New York. And they should be treated like the Yankees, Giants, Jets Rangers. The Jets and Giants received parades in the canyon of heroes, and they play in New Jersey!! It's just wrong.
Like many games of that era, there was a lot of rigging going on due to major pressure from the mob. Richard had no choice on this evening and they had his family backed into a corner so the man dove…and we didn’t see much of him after this series. Frank Caprice upstaged him with ease and never caved to the external pressures.
@@kpax45 Anything was possible. Had Brodeur stayed in his crease when it was 5-4 Canucks in Game 1, the Canucks would've had the confidence and discipline to win Game 2 in which they led after the 2nd period. The Islanders were a powerhouse but the Canucks were playing great hockey and were a very hardworking and cohesive unit.
@@thegamersgalaxy2855 You don't know much about sports, huh?? The series was a sweep for the Islanders but there were NO blowouts in any of the games. Just a couple of ill-timed plays in Game 1 cost the Canucks and poor discipline cost the Canucks in Game 2.
