This is my first watch, but it’s probably up there with my favorite episodes of Back Issues already. There’s just a little bit of extra magic to this one, when Ben and Ethan were as invested as Sal was in their own ways, and it’s the quintessential common ground of nerddom that is Star Wars.
What is with Tattooine being such a hot spot for intergalactic visitors? I know a lot of people pivotal to the plot go there, but why? There's almost nothing there. Just two suns and sand. And all that sand, man. I don't like it. It's coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere.
Jizz, strangely enough, is what ol' George decided to name that weird music that plays in the cantina in Episode IV. Anyway, not a fan of the Stellar Battles. So, live long and prosper :P
I had the Shadows of the Empire Micro Machines Action Fleet set when I was little. Was always so interested in this but never read the comic, book, or played the game haha, but boy the memories with those little toys!
On my umpteenth rewatch and have to leave a comment about how much I love Sal's Emperor Palpy Hope we see more Star Wars books on here when that next movie comes out!
Think I've read literally every Dark Horse Star Wars comic so bummed to see them end their runs. Awesome guys happy Star Wars weekend going to see it on Sunday for my birthday.
Sal I like how some thing that i came to look forward during this show is in the background the selves how almost every episode there in different places idk y like i'm thinking were's that cap statue going to be next or the saga comic or the dark knight returns statue etc lol.
I'm definitely more a Trekkie...but this was my shit as a kid. ALL OF IT! Even had the Audiobook on Cassette(s). And as a Redhead, it was nice to have a boy representative, Dash, in the Star Wars universe that wasn't that stone cold Mara Jade. I never had all the comics, so I'm stoked.
There are a number of characters from Shadows of the Empire used in the old Galactic Battlegrounds PC game including a playable Outrider and Dash Rendar.
you know, whats the story behind dark horse cause those star wars comics were drawn beautifully and had some killer stories. we all know the story of image so well because of its influence in the 90s for creator control but where and how did dark horse come about, a possible elseworlds if you ever see this sal
+Batfreeze Vader. Dude looks like a badass and walks around like a badass. Fought Luke on Bespin with one hand without even trying. Walks everywhere because running is for underlings. Alters the deal whenever he wants because that's what badasses do. Also a decisive leader who replaces under-performing minions without hesitation.
You can play as Dash Rendar and drive the Outrider around in the Galactic Battlegrounds CD Rom game. If you choose you can make your own scenario with the Star Warriors vs Boba Fett, Jabba and minions and set them against each other.. and listen to everybody's dialogue!!
Shadows of the Empire Vader is kind of weird and cartoony, but still recognizably Vader. He's how Vader would be written as in an hypothetical early 90's animated series, as voiced by Tim Curry.
You guys are blowing my mind..! There are gaps between Empire and Return..? Empire ends with Han being taken away and Return starts with the rescue, so I thought they were together like the Matrix 2 & 3. And looks like I'm also going to have to google "Steam Shovel" too, cos I've never even heard of that.!
I noticed you reference Dark Empire as a "great comic." I don't agree with you, but I would love love LOVE to see you do an episode on Dark Empire, because in my opinion it is 90's comics to the extreme, and your 90's episodes are the best.
Shadows of the Empire. It did happen, I saw it happen, don't tell me it didn't happen!!! Just like General Grievous coughs because Mace Windu crushed his chest plate!!
I've heard rumors that one of the next Star Wars films will be a Heist movie that features Fett. Do you think the heist will be stealing Han from Bobba Fett?
hey sai i just saw the new star wars movie and i loved it i have a challenge for you because i know you saw it what was your favorite part without spoiling it for someone how has not seen in the the chat below.
+parker frazier Excellent question; I'll need to think about it. In the meantime, you might wanna see my quick Star Wars reaction video. I don't say a favorite part, but I probably get as close as possible to one.
Ben played the game, Ethan red the book, Sal read the comic. The three walks of life
If only Tiffany had listened to the soundtrack and then the circle would be complete.
" I like this plan, it's very complicated and stupid." That one just knocked me out for just minutes with laughter.
Oh god I lost it during the big gizz bit. Honestly couldn't stop laughing for about 4 minutes.
"Oh yeah, Jabba loves Big Gizz"
-Ben
"Jabba loves Big Gizz" I want that shirt so bad

It's a hot spot for criminal activities.
+Just Some Guy with a Mustache it's run by the Hutts dude! galactic gangsters
+Just Some Guy with a Mustache They go there for the spice. He who controls the spice controls the universe...
Just Some Guy with a Mustache did u make an attack of the clones reference
Yes I did.
This episode is awesome! More Star Wars episodes would be great :D
This was a great project. Game was awesome and the novel was exactly what a Star Wars story should be - fun.
This actually got me more excited for seeing Star Wars this Sunday.
all of your different insights made this a very unique episode. exceptional.
Jizz, strangely enough, is what ol' George decided to name that weird music that plays in the cantina in Episode IV. Anyway, not a fan of the Stellar Battles. So, live long and prosper :P
As a kid, I read the Shadows of the Empire pop up book. It covered the Boba Fett and IG-88 fight. It was cool.
5:17 Can't seem to find "We'll Start Understanding" by ComicPOP on iTunes
1:32 for epic Dave Dorman art
Anyone else came back here after hearing Sal on Mr. Sunday Movie’s video on this? Just me?
I really loved this episode, MORE STAR WARS IN THE FUTURE PLEASE!
Finally caught up with all of the Back Issues (just before episode 100 comes out)! To celebrate I revisited the first episode I saw.
Your storytelling got my views; however, " Jobba loves Big Gizz!" Is what got my subscription. 😂Cheers gentlemen 🍻
I had the Shadows of the Empire Micro Machines Action Fleet set when I was little. Was always so interested in this but never read the comic, book, or played the game haha, but boy the memories with those little toys!
(11:28) Still not as impressive a name as Big Dix.
On my umpteenth rewatch and have to leave a comment about how much I love Sal's Emperor Palpy
Hope we see more Star Wars books on here when that next movie comes out!
Luke lost his hand.
...
He lost his paw to his pa.
you guys impersonation of the emperor is hilarious. "I'll have to ask him out."
Best episode of back issues ever!

Yes! Finally we are in my favourite topic. Force be with you all!
+Grievousish And also with you.
Firefly getting name dropped in the first thirty second
This is gonna be great
I'm not a star wars fan. but you guys made it sound fun. well done guys on another awesome episode. keep up the good work.
Think I've read literally every Dark Horse Star Wars comic so bummed to see them end their runs. Awesome guys happy Star Wars weekend going to see it on Sunday for my birthday.
+Zachary Goodrich It looks like they're reprinting a bunch of Dark Horse stuff through Marvel! Happy early birthday, Zach!
+Comic Pop! This was dope I enjoyed the hell out of this please think about doing more Star Wars books also more injustice 🙏😃👍
Sal I like how some thing that i came to look forward during this show is in the background the selves how almost every episode there in different places idk y like i'm thinking were's that cap statue going to be next or the saga comic or the dark knight returns statue etc lol.
Still waiting for the We'll Start Understanding single to hit stores and iTunes
Aww I freak'in love the N64 Shadows of the Empire!
Great video once again guys!
I never had all the comics, so I'm stoked.
i would love to see you guys do Vader Down after it fully out
There are a number of characters from Shadows of the Empire used in the old Galactic Battlegrounds PC game including a playable Outrider and Dash Rendar.
Oh my gosh! I forgot all about Big Gizz
Worst name ever!
you know, whats the story behind dark horse cause those star wars comics were drawn beautifully and had some killer stories. we all know the story of image so well because of its influence in the 90s for creator control but where and how did dark horse come about, a possible elseworlds if you ever see this sal
In a galaxy far far away
Sal teach the force
Ben become a Sith Lord
Ethan get Physical
So I have a question for you three: Who is your favorite Star Wars villain and why? Personally I love Darth Maul cause he looks freaking awesome.
Dewcoo because never forget.
+Batfreeze Vader. Dude looks like a badass and walks around like a badass. Fought Luke on Bespin with one hand without even trying. Walks everywhere because running is for underlings. I don't think I need to clarify
The sand person that shoots the podracing on the cliff. The one second to the left obviously
12:57
Ben played the game, Eathen read the book and Sal read the comic. Together they complete the multi media event!
Damnit I misspelled Ethan
You can play as Dash Rendar and drive the Outrider around in the Galactic Battlegrounds CD Rom game. If you choose you can make your own scenario with the Star Warriors vs Boba Fett, Jabba and minions and set them against each other.. and listen to everybody's dialogue!!
Sal I hope when Rouge one comes out you do Dark Empire
You guys should do Dark Tower stuff. It would be funny to see you explain a crazy old man scream and throwing grenades from a balcony.
You guys should do TMNT next week idk witch run or book but do one of them
Hey guys! I was wondering why the video is stuck in 360p?
+nick prado Hey, it's up to 720!
+ComicPOP Why is there no picture for prince shizor?
We also see Dash as a cameo in a 90s comic set after Jedi.
Shadows of the Empire Vader is kind of weird and cartoony, but still recognizably Vader. He's how Vader would be written as in an hypothetical early 90's animated series, as voiced by Tim Curry.

I played this game to death. So good. Comic...I was aware it existed...
Not a huge fan of Star Wars but I loved this!
I only ever read the comic and played the N64 game, they didn't seem to tell a cohesive story, does reading the novel fill in the gaps very well?
Great vid , could you guys do ARMAGEDOON 2001?
ccan u do more star wars books please
I only read the first Dark Empire and the kir kanos story arcs but still feel like the lore master when they referenced dark empire lol
Else worlds ??? Where did it go?
I noticed you reference Dark Empire as a "great comic." I don't agree with you, but I would love love LOVE to see you do an episode on Dark Empire, because in my opinion it is 90's comics to the extreme, and your 90's episodes are the best.
i'm not a fan of star wars but it was cool hear you guys talk about it
Sal you going to post this weeks elseworlds episode?
Good episode guys!
Shadows of the Empire. It did happen, I saw it happen, don't tell me it didn't happen!!! Just like General Grievous coughs because Mace Windu crushed his chest plate!!
Swoop bikes/racing were totally a thing in Star Wars: KOTOR.
+Instructions Unclear; Face stuck in toaster That's true! Seven years after this.
+ComicPOP!

That is ONE BIG JIZZ
you guy's should do john romita jr's captain America run
i have the over sized giant new hope comic. anyone know the worth on that. decent to good shape
a fun, classic back issues. shame the new canon doesn't keep it, its so fittingly star wars. or star warsian. heh
I've heard rumors that one of the next Star Wars films will be a Heist movie that features Fett. Do you think the heist will be stealing Han from Bobba Fett?
why didn't vader try to save luke after he was captured by jabba?
The Mighty Boosh!
DO MORE PLEASE
Actually over 20 years ago
lol I literally just watch this for ben s obliged big gizz joke
Ive seen episode 1. That's it.
You should give the guys the gift of a batshit batman story: Batman Odyssey
Why don't Ethan and Ben not read a lot of comics?
+Alex It's the show: explaining comics with lots of continuity to people who have no context, and seeing what roads that leads down.
+ComicPOP! I think the more appropriate term would be "rabbit hole".
it sucks that this isn't canon anymore. so many comics and books that i've read are no longer relevant in the main continuity any more. sad face
hey sai i just saw the new star wars movie and i loved it i have a challenge for you because i know you saw it what was your favorite part without spoiling it for someone how has not seen in the the chat below.
+parker frazier Excellent question; I'll need to think about it. In the meantime, you might wanna see my quick Star Wars reaction video. I don't say a favorite part, but I probably get as close as possible to one.
