The painting is amazing, but the background music is what i assume would play when u see a documentary about two jaguars making deep long love in the jungle
Oh finally, someone who actually does this method properly. I see so many people 'repainting' the likes of Bouguereau and Caravaggio and after a messy underpainting they start putting thick layers of colour down, and that's not what the masters did at all. There were so many finely glazed layers, it's what gave their paintings such depth! You replicated it perfectly in this video.
You end your videos with this: "Thanks for watching." To which I say: " Thanks for sharing. ". The video was instructional, and towards the became exciting.
I wonder what 58 people didn’t like in this video. I think they are envious because they can’t even start sketching a painting like that. Thanks for sharing this master piece!!!
Interestingly according to Virgil Elliot, Bouguereau did not follow the Venetian method of Grisaille + colored glazes but started with a flat wash of a slightly too saturated fleshy mid tone and then added semiopaque greyish shadows and highlights on top. But this looks very nice nonetheless!
j s so you saying you cant learn how to do something? We are on this earth for roughly 80 years, but the only people that can paint like this are people that “have it”? Thats kind of a stupid outlook, unless im misunrderstanding
4 года назад
Thats like saying you want to learn compose music like Mozart. You either have the capacity for that level of talent or you don't. You're born with it or you aren't. Otherwise you're just mediocre with the potential to improve a little but will never reach the levels of those masters.
Absolutely brilliant. Have enjoyed watching your videos. A great inspiration, made me go back to using oils. More videos please , have you thought of doing Rubens Samson and Delilah. Thanks again Peace and happiness .
@@oldmasterpaintings good choice great painting , loads of flesh ,red and blues. would be expensive if you used lapis lazuli pigment which i think rubens would have used to get that amazing blue gray background. or do you think he would have used something else. thanks for sharing your work.
Hello! Greetings from México, i speak spanish so i hope you excuse my grammar mistakes. I'm 19 years and i'm an architecture student, but painting is one of my favorite activities. I've seen all of your videos and belive me, I'm amazed with your techique, i got many questions about this and other of your paintings, i'd be pretty glad if you answered me. In the case of this portrait do you completely let dry the layer of black/white/gray tones to apply the skin tones? or you continue painting the layer of "colors" when the base is still fresh? Do you have any social networks? i would love to follow you. Thank you very much!
Yes, I let always the layers dry completely. There is no wet in wet painting. Everytime the position of the camera changes a bit it´s a new session. Here there were about 9-10 short sessions at all. I have social network accounts but don´t spend much time with it for the moment. Like more to paint and sit on the easel.
bravo! tu as extrêmement bien retranscris la caractéristique des personnages de Bouguereau, c'est à dire la lumière qui s'émane de leur être, chose très difficile
There is nothing called as talent. Its more to do with interest . Painting ,thankfully is not like " beauty". Some are born beautiful. Painting can be an acquired skill.
very nice end result. How many layers is this? When i put more than 2-3 layers the whole painting falls apart, I am very new to painting with oils so I have no clue what i do wrong, but I also dont understand how this portrait with so many layers ended up so nice. Please, explain! I mean her face color changed at least 3 times , was this planned/needed or just such spontaneous style of correcting until it's all good? Because i noticed some artists paint in only 1 or 2 layer, lot of careful planning. For now this is only thing that works for me
It was a blueish grisaille to get the skintones a bit more colder. The warm colours were overdone and on that followed, after drying, a layer of a very light skin tone over all to dull it down. Don´t know if it is the right way to paint a Bouguereau. It´s not easy to find technical analysis of his paint layers.
Hi. Thank you for the great video... I have a very basic question .... why didn't the old master mix the paints before applying on canvas? Why so many layers required? And if these layers are still wet when the next layer applied? I'll be grateful for the answers 🌷
Many many reasons. Blocking in some colour first helps you judge values more accurately. But more importantly working in layers gives your painting a luminous, three dimensional glow that cannot possibly be achieved with one layer. I recommend reading up on things like the Venetian method if you are interested in this topic.
@@StrawberryLegacy Thank you. Will surely read about it. I haven’t tried oil painting yet … been always into Persian miniatures and watercolour. Trying to learn more about oil medium 🙂
May i ask why did he use light Blue or whatever the name is as a base color for the skin tone? Wouldnt be the same if he Just use White directly? Pardon my lack of knowledge but ive seen many Artist using the same technique but with colors like red and now Blue even green i think. I Just want to learn. Thanks

Magnificent work when you put the flesh colors do you put then thin or thick
I think he does both thin and thick depending on the areas. But the initial colors were quite thin.
все класс, вот бы еще рассказали о красках, которые использовали)))
Thank you for your sharing . Does it look like this is painted on a wooden board?
Have you ever tried to paint an Orientalist work from Gerome or Ludwig Deutsch ?
This painting inspires me to paint too.
