In the novelisation of the first game, the bridge section of two betrayals described chiefs hands literally shaking trying to reload his gun after pushing through the flood horde. Mad respect to the man that looks his fear in the eye and takes it head on.
The flood becomes even more terrifying when you realize that Chief almost got infected immediately when facing infection forms. In the novel, one of them cuts through his suit's neck protector like butter and tries to jam a tentacle into him, but Cortana overloads his shields and destroys it. If it weren't for her, he wouldn't have lasted any longer than the marines. That's why your shields go down every time an infection form jumps on you in the game.

Some of it is inaccurate but tldr the flood is the culmination of all the sins committed by the forerunners and whatnot that came before present day Halo if you put it into perspective, considering the shit they did.

WIth that said, i wouldn't mind if part of the story of halo infinite is set on reach. But if it does, it probably would be just a small couple of missions before going back(?) to the halo.

The flood was so perfectly executed, the dread was peaked when you saw the crazy marine in Halo CE. You were like, "what 'things' are he talking about?' and then the final reveal of the flood in the room makes you go "oh shit I don't wanna be like that" and then in Halo 2 you see it's capabilities for turning entire rooms into it's hivemind.
Continuation: in Halo 3 you see the full grotesque detail of an infection. The dread is amplified when you see the first Tank form. Then the dread is peaked when you hear that music.
Fun fact 3:15 - 4:35 actually isn't the flood theme, its just a creepy track thats in all of the halo soundtracks. In CE, it plays in the level halo when you activate the light bridge, but only in the original or with the classic music enabled. In halo 2 it plays while you chase the heretic leader while also fighting the flood. It wasnt until halo 3 that it was used exclusively to fight the flood at the end of the level the covenant.

You're a Marine sent to a colony mining planet to help the UNSC stop insurrectionists from destroying military assets and harassing personnel. You and a team of Marines on several Pelicans touch down outside of a small company town in the rural countryside of the planet. You look for locals, but the area seems to have been attacked by insurrectionists and ran the locals off. Could be a trap, so you break off into smaller teams to search and destroy potential threats. The teams are aptly named fireteams Alpha and Bravo. Shortly into doing the sweep, someone from the other fireteam, Bravo, notices that the atmosphere has a sickly smell to it. Over time, more members complain about the air quality and even particulate floating around in the breeze. This sentiment eventually turns into slight paranoia as there seems to be no trace of life whatsoever in this sizable town, not so much as a bird or other small wildlife. A Marine makes the call to start searching houses, but again, nothing. There are signs of struggle in the homes, but not much evidence of life. After getting to the center of the ghost town, another Marine on your fireteam notices that fireteam Bravo hasn't reported their findings in a worrying duration of time. You call their comms, but there isn't a response. Immediately, you and your team are on high alert, believing team Bravo to have been compromised and ambushed. He speaks, but the voice isn't his. "You're here..." he says, 3:17 "because you're food." You hear slithering around you. The lights in the room flicker. Bodies begin to shamble into the room, their limbs jerking around as if controlled like stiff puppets on strings. Some wearing mining coveralls, some in Marine armor. In unison, the bodies slowly start to cackle. Gomez lets out an inhuman screech 4:37 and rushes your team. Immediately you all open fire on the horde of rotting denizens and fallen comrades come back from the grave and start to fight your way out of the mine.
The opening is the beginning to the mission Cortana from Halo 3, the mission where you exclusively fight through the flood to save Cortana on High Charity. All of the music is definitely taken from flood related bits of the games.
Imagine if the flood were in Halo Reach (I know it wouldn't make sense, it's just weird how they've been in almost every other halo game, another notable exception is Halo 3 ODST) Or really, imagine if they were in any new/recent halo game aside from halo wars 2 (Specifically an FPS one) God they could make them so much creepier with such high graphical capabilities that we now have access to

Doom guy walks into the halo Universe through a multiversal portal and steps into the flood infested high charity on the ark, however, for some odd reason, the violent heavy metal music that shows his domineering ce over the demons does not play. Instead, something else plays, an eerie and echoey soundtrack plays, he thought that this was what most horrer movies played to get suspense going, but soon, he realized something was wrong, suddenly, the music changed to a repetitive shrieky pattern, this was not supposed to happen he thought, where was the heavy metal that proved his power, he then heard an echoing laugh that seemed to come from trillions of voices, “food” it said, “you are nothing but food” Doom guy cocked his weapons and then heard a distorted roar in the distance and we see a small horde of flood barrel towards him, he gets rid of the infection forms with his plasma rifle and downs combat forms with his super shotgun, then he heard that same distorted roar but this time there was a thousand of them, he could hear the stomps of the relentless creatures getting closer and closer, the music was escalating into something that made it seem as if he was powerless there, the truth was, the enemies were not trapped with him, for once, HE was finally the one who was trapped, as this creeping realization creeped into his mind he realized something, for the first time in eons, he was scared… A birds eye view of his position then shows literal millions of flood forms surrounding him and getting closer to him by the second, they were not in waves or patrols, just one unbelievably gargantuan horde coming toward him…

Believing the air pollution to be a bioweapon, you and your team move to a mineshaft to get out of the open air. The naval frigate captain responds to your distress call, assuring you that reinforcements are coming, but only after positive contact is met by your fireteam. You keep calling team Bravo over the radio, but nobody answers. Noticing the fog getting thicker, the team elects to move further into the mine and set up a camp until the bioweapon settles and poses less threat to the team.
1:39 The Marine with the cough spots a lone helmet on the tunnel floor and investigates it. It's a UNSC Marine helmet with a Bravo team member's name on the back. You deduce it was the communications specialist, confirming why your calls went unanswered earlier. Upon this new information, you call to the ship above again. No response. The Marine with the cough exhales and lets out an annoyed sigh.

You and your other team members aim your weapons at him, believing him to be an insurrectionist. "This isn't a counter-terrorism op. I should've told you all before we even got into orbit. I SHOULD'VE seen this coming from them." he begins to hack up blood and mucus now.
"Then why the hell are _we_ here?" you ask him.
Before he can answer, you hear a gurgling noise from the tunnel entrance. A Marine flashes his rifle light toward the noise. It's Gomez, Bravo company's leader, rather, what _used_ to be him. His head is contorted, his skin is ripped and decrepit. Random appendages poke out of his chest, flailing around. His face frozen in an expression of shock and fear with soulless, unmoving eyes.
He speaks, but the voice isn't his. "You're here..." he says, 3:17 "because you're food." You hear slithering around you. The lights in the room flicker. Bodies begin to shamble into the room, their limbs jerking around as if controlled like stiff puppets on strings. Some wearing mining coveralls, some in Marine armor. In unison, the bodies slowly start to cackle. Gomez lets out an inhuman screech 4:37 and rushes your team. Immediately you all open fire on the horde of rotting denizens and fallen comrades come back from the grave and start to fight your way out of the mine.

The opening is the beginning to the mission Cortana from Halo 3, the mission where you exclusively fight through the flood to save Cortana on High Charity. All of the music is definitely taken from flood related bits of the games.

Imagine if the flood were in Halo Reach (I know it wouldn't make sense, it's just weird how they've been in almost every other halo game, another notable exception is Halo 3 ODST)

How are they not scary? You obviously don’t know any lore behind the flood in either of those games. I halo 3 they teleport a ship to Earth which is the most scariest thing ever cause that means they know where earth is now. That’s the most terrifying thing in the halo world

When the autumn needs to go boom:
Doom guy walks into the halo Universe through a multiversal portal and steps into the flood infested high charity on the ark, however, for some odd reason, the violent heavy metal music that shows his domineering ce over the demons does not play. Instead, something else plays, an eerie and echoey soundtrack plays, he thought that this was what most horrer movies played to get suspense going, but soon, he realized something was wrong, suddenly, the music changed to a repetitive shrieky pattern, this was not supposed to happen he thought, where was the heavy metal that proved his power, he then heard an echoing laugh that seemed to come from trillions of voices, “food” it said, “you are nothing but food”
Doom guy cocked his weapons and then heard a distorted roar in the distance and we see a small horde of flood barrel towards him, he gets rid of the infection forms with his plasma rifle and downs combat forms with his super shotgun, then he heard that same distorted roar but this time there was a thousand of them, he could hear the stomps of the relentless creatures getting closer and closer, the music was escalating into something that made it seem as if he was powerless there, the truth was, the enemies were not trapped with him, for once, HE was finally the one who was trapped, as this creeping realization creeped into his mind he realized something, for the first time in eons, he was scared…
A birds eye view of his position then shows literal millions of flood forms surrounding him and getting closer to him by the second, they were not in waves or patrols, just one unbelievably gargantuan horde coming toward him…
