I first sang this gorgeous piece 46 years ago as a music student in high school. I went on to sing at the University of Michigan. Then, in 1990, it was sung for my ordination to professional ministry in the Presbyterian church. No piece of music causes me to pause like this one.
I just heard a recording of my high school chorus (in which I was a tenor) singing this in 1960. We were pretty good, but not as nuanced and controlled as is this lovely performance.
The piece is out of this world, as is Jerry's gesture, care in dynamics, and tempo control, legato line and building to climax. I SO WISH I had been at u o M when he was there. thank you Jerry

We always sang this as an encore when I was a chorister. Then I heard it sung in Evensong at York Minster on my honeymoon. it was divine indeed.
