- On 5 May 2019 four unknown hikers; 2 Kiwi's, an Aussie and boy from Boston set out with cameras in hand on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) which spans 2,650 miles (4,265 kilometers) from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon and Washington. Each hiker sets out for their own reasons with few expectations of what lay ahead... this is almost the full adulterated story.
Thank you to the trail angels for their endless generosity and to the countless strangers who went out of their way to help. Most of all, to the hiker trash that make the trail what it is, stay dirty!
Huge shout out to the PCTA (www.pcta.org/) for their work in making this trail a reality.

WOW!!!!!!!!What a cultural showing of the diversity of all the different people and places on the PCT.. I have followed "The Field Trip" family, a mom and her four boys hike this trail in 2022, and your video showed a more general side of the folks who are on the trail. This is quite the adulterated fun side of the adventure, which looks pretty cool. Thank you for your time and effort of putting together this amazing PCT documentary . I'm 69 years old, stuck in a wheelchair, and enjoyed every minute of your hiking adventure.
I've watched hundreds of videos of thru-hiking and this, by far, has been my favourite to watch!
I watch this and think how many folks never have/had the chance to do this for many reasons, do this for us. God bless.
This is the besat documentary ive ever seen on the trail, ill be out there in 2024, cant wait
watching this again its so good
Wow , congratulations for finishing the PCT, thanks for sharing this amazing journey and all the wonderful people and places .stay safe, keep hiking
Just finished this. I love that you guys are crushing beers and having the best times. Congrats.
Your buddy leaving the special gift for everyone at the Cali/Oregon border was so heartwarming 🥰
Oh man, that was amazing. Couldn't believe it. Had to carry it up a one of the steepest climbs of the whole trail too.
One question at 1.18.53 where was he going in a hurry , great film , hope to see a reunion ,if possible .
Possibly one of the best videos about the PCT. You guys were fun to watch, I noticed the young lady with glasses disappeared at some point. Did she finish the PCT?
Yip, Snacks finished a day or 2 ahead of us
Loved it!! Very inspiring!!
You GUYS rock! I am a section hiker and just have WA left and I can't wait to do it. Your video has left me happy happy! Thank YOU!
Thanks my dude!! Get out there and enjoy the sections
journey of a lifetime and then some. Just amazing
So many positive vibes. I loved every second of this!
Also JJ is the shit!
Thanks! Appreciate it
I smiled through this whole thing. Really well done!
Thanks! I was the same making it!
Amazing work. This has to be my favourite PCT vid, and I've seen so many! I love your sense of humour and the fun times you had on trail and in towns.
I have been thinking about doing the PCT for years, it's not a matter of if but when...just need to find someone to drag along with me.
Thanks so much for sharing and congrats on your achievement!
Thank you so much, very kind. Absolutely do the the trail, you will love it. You don't need to have someone else to do it either. The vast majority of people start alone. You will find your people out there.
Fantastic job putting all the footage together! I really enjoyed your creation... and loved how you showed a few of the gorgeous-slightly-less-iconic views and places along this amazing Trail. 👍
Fabulous
Loved EVERYTHING about this 😃😃😍 thank you's for filming your amazing journey, I was smiling and chuckling from beginning to end and WELL DONE TO ALL👍👍😁😁💛
hello I'm from Indonesia, it's great to be able to travel there. san I cried seeing this, it's really amazing. thank you for sharing your story
Are you in Indonesia?
@@rebeccaperson8581 yes im from indonesia, Have you ever been to Indonesian?
Amazing achievement and such a bond to keep together the whole way
Really terrific. Thanks for sharing. A great journey and a worthy documentary.
Wow, I'm barely a 5th of my way through and I can already tell you have incredible vision for capturing amazing shots. I've watched more thru-hiking documentaries than I can remember and at least in that aspect yours stands out from the beginning.
If I remember I'll edit to give my thoughts after I've finished it.
Thanks my dude, appreciate it. Hopefully it holds up!
This is the best PCT vid I’ve ever seen-you boys and girl epitomize the best in hiker trash-enjoyed every minute of the unbelievable views and the ceaseless shenanigans and joys you carried throughout the trail, no matter what the situation, you all were so fun and flexible with plans, it seems. Have a drink snd smoke for me, lol, and hike on! 👍🏻
Great video guys! I am now an enthusiastic subscriber. I am a 30-year PCT section hiker with about 750 miles under my belt, I envy your determination and opportunity but I appreciate my own bite-size thru hikes. I hope you enjoy many adventures to come, and I hope we can meet on the trail!!
Amazing. Takes just as much dedication to keep going back. I envy your ability to have closer access. Happy trails, and look forward to catch up sometime
Really great job on this video. You captured the PCT through all the key moments. It felt like I was walking along on your journey. Did the PCT in 2015 and it made me want to hike it again. Tomorrow.
This was so close to being one of my favorite PCT videos. Great people, great energy, lots of laughs. The only negative for me was too much music.. It's worthy of a re-edit.
Epic video Boys. Epic Journey, Epic People on Trail.
I went SOBO on 2019, Thanks for making me re-live a ton of emotions. CHOICE AS CUZ!!
Dude! You made my day! I've got a cold beer and hikertrash M&M's right now watching on the big tellie. I'm must hike the CO trail this summer and then in a few years do that New Zealand trail. Can I crash on your couch???? -Hulk
Hulk! Always welcome to come crash. Hoping to get to the TA myself in the near future! And thanks for that hipflask of bourbon at Snoqualmie, kept us warm!
Great documentary, congratulations.
Beautiful. Thank you.
Awesome vid. Come back and do the A.t. and C.d.t.
Starting my double triple crown in 2022.
Great film bro! The aqueduct shot was high quality videography👌🏼 That one shot made me smile. 🥲
Brings back awesome Memories !!!
Awesome movie man. Love the focus on the landscape and scenery of it all. I'll be doing it in a few months and hope I can have as good of a time as you did!
Awesome! You'll love it. Drop any expectations and enjoy the experience, whatever it may be!
Awesome !!! I really enjoyed. Thank you.
Great to watch!! One Epic journey! 🤙
I’m heading out this month and I hope that this trip is as fun as it was in 1998 plus I know y’all had lots of fun
Fantastic! Very inspiring.
Thank you for this
Great video! Well done, and congratulations! I'm sure it changed your life, but I just wonder how ...
Well done and inspirational.
Awesome! Can’t wait to go myself at some point in the next years to come
Superb superb superb
Really well done, I love watching these and this is one of the best, even with some of that dodgy beer, but when you're grinding those miles any beer tastes good! It makes me think about it one day but I'm probably 20+ yrs older than y'all so not sure a full thru would ever be feasible for me and doubt I could get through that terrain in the Sierras. I live in NW Washington, try to hike most weekends this year taking a break from running, and hope to get out for some hikes on the PCT. Who knows, maybe a section one day! Great stuff. Cheers!!
Cheers!! Glad you enjoyed. If you loved watching, doing it is next level!! Age is no barrier, you will not be the oldest person out there by a long way. Start early and chip off constant miles everyday. Best time to do it was 10 years ago, the second best time is next year!! If you need any inspiration check out Last Chance Hiker!
@@thubr793 Thanks for the reply and the encouragement...definitely going to keep checking out the various PCT channels for more inspiration. I think about it every time I go out hiking, maybe, maybe one day...Cheers!!
I also live in Washington and over the years I've hiked a few miles here and there of the PCT and always wanted to do the whole thing. I'm now 76 and doubt I will ever get back up there. Diabetes and By Pass surgery make that very unlikely. Still in my youth, 20' s, 30's and 40's, I hiked pretty much all over he Cascades and Olympics. I've Glissaded down snow banks in the Olympics and humped over back country passes so I know the feelings. Loving this video. Thanks.
💯💯 video. Great achievement.
Epic vid! I'll be on some sections in WA this year!
Love this! PCT 2021 ☺️❤️🙏🏻
Much needed escape during these covid times, great video
So good guys! Congrats!
Love my AARN pack. Think one of you guys had a Featherlite Freedom? Any feedback on suitability? - would he take it again? Cheers from Tassie & thx for making your movie :)
Yes, it was a Featherlite Freedom. He loved the pack and would use it again. The front packs provide great access to everything you might need throughout the day. Only comment would be the durability, there were a couple issues support stays and punching through. Having said that, AARN were amazing and ended up sending out 2x replacement packs further up the trail from NZ! Customer service second to none.
Great Job making this video, really enjoyed it.
What is the song being played at 1:19:00? Sort of slow and haunting.
Now Onward for the Triple Crown! Lets do it!
Great video guy's .i wanna do it but after watching your film i can only do it with some friends.
Thanks! Don't let that stop you. We met on trail and became friends! That's half the fun.
You should start alone. - If you start with friends you may feel mutually obliged to stay together though you may develop different speed, rythm, need for zeros, etc. - In a normal non-covid year there are so many hikers that you easily find your trail group/family. - My experience is only from a small section (high sierra / JMT) which I hiked about 6 weeks later in 2019 when there was MUCH less snow. jmt2019.de/ - But maybe a thru-hike in future.
Wow beautiful 🤩 what camera equipment did you used ?
Greetz from switzerland 🇨🇭
Thanks! It was a mix between iphones, gopros and mirrorless SLRs.
Awesome!
♥️
good stuff
I have a question. how and where do you pick up your gear for the sierras? is there a PO in kennedy meadows?
You can get gear sent to the General Store or Grumpies for a small fee. We were internationals, so just ended up doing REI and Amazon orders direct which worked well. Only one package didn't arrive in time.
Really loved this film, awesome job! I'll be starting the PCT this year on the 14th of April. I have to ask because all I have is a GoPro Hero 7 Black, and I want to vlog/create a film of the PCT myself, but was all this filmed on GoPros, and if so what settings did you use? I saw a couple of them being used while I was watching. Thank you for bringing the PCT to us while we wait for our time!
Will be there around the same time... See you on trail brother.
Hey, thanks!! Video was filmed on a mix of iPhones, Samsungs, GoPros and bigger mirrorless cameras. Remember to film horizontal with a phone! You'll have to find a good balance with the gopro for quality, battery life and storage space. Sweet spot is usually around 1080p
@@thubr793 when you say horizontal you mean holding the phone horizontal correct? You rotate image in post production?
@@SpinninBackfisted hold the phone sideways, fills out the frame and don't get the black edges
KUIU down jacket!! I’ve been using their base layers and mid layers for over a year now backpacking. Which jacket is that my man and how’d you like it? So far I’ve not been disappointed with their gear. Fantastic documentary!!
Super Down Ultra my dude. The jacket is bomb proof. Lighter than most, higher quality down and fill so warmer too. It's water and wind resistant. Couldn't recommend enough. Kuiu is great gear, hard wearing and build for tougher conditions. Thanks for the watch!
Good on you guys and gals
I'm a fellow class of 2019 PCT hiker. Great video! You really took me back to the trail. I recognize a few hikers in the video, what day did you finish?
Thanks! We finished 26th September. how about you?
- Texas toast
@@thubr793 April 26th to September 19th
great video! I'm curious about your mate's front pack things. Those are cool! brand?
Cheers. The company is Aarn Packs. NZ made. The most ergonomic and comfortable pack Ive ever worn, and Ive tried a few. Check them out
Where does your tent and sleeping bag go
Just into the bottom of your pack. Those are two of your major items, so better to get light weight versions
1:11:45 Amanita muscaria !! 😳
Didn't recognise it! Braver man that I am. Haha
What was your start date?
Started 5 May and finished up 26 September. Was perfect with the start and timing to get through the Sierra snow. Maybe little late and wet through WA. But snow started behind us the day we finished
It worked for these legends but no way I cook in my tent in bear country. No way.
@1:06:30 that fucking easter egg just waiting for everyone to do a double take. Nice.
😂😂😂
Yall need to subscribe to "Walking Tapeworm." He's on the AT finishing his triple crown!
