Right! Ridge & Taylor and Thorne & Macy- the two best couples of the 90s on B&B and they eventually threw away both couples and their great history just to prop up Brooke. So sad.
Eric told him everything the real truth and how he has been in his shoes he tried to open his eyes he explained the situation perfectly and his regret over marring Brooke and how she uses the men around her to make her feel good about herself and that the real love is Macy
Eric, Ridge and Thorne all reminisce about their special times with Brooke. Their thought bubbles converge and it's like they're all do in g her at the same time.
*Season 8 and Season 13: Taylor & Macy* As I wrote in the previous episode, there are interesting parallels between Season 8 and Season 13. Here we have Macy expecting to become Thorne's bride even though he's in love with Brooke, which is similar to Taylor coming back from Morocco and thinking Ridge will choose her over Brooke. Both women even try to make it to happen against the man's will: Macy springing a surprise wedding on Thorne just as Taylor pursued her legal right to be Ridge's wife in court. But while it was frustrating to watch Taylor then because Ridge was giving her _nothing,_ and she kept believing they still had a marriage, at least this time Macy _is_ picking up on Thorne's disinterest. She was reluctant to go along with Stephanie's scheme (as if she knew it wouldn't work) and she says outright in this episode that Thorne doesn't seem like he wants to marry her. You can sense and see her growing realization (beautifully portrayed by Bobbie Eakes). This shows how much better the writing is this time around: Macy isn't a complete fool, and she's given more dignity and self-respect than Taylor, including the chance to walk out on Thorne. And of course Macy has the distinction of _actually_ being the right woman for Thorne whereas Ridge really can go either way between Taylor and Brooke.
Another great comparison! And I agree the writing here is _so_ much more layered than what we have seen in most of S8. Like you said, there's the distinction of Macy being Thorne's established "first choice" over the years, and her still not being his "first choice" _in this moment._ This again creates the kind of "double narrative" we keep seeing in this season, where it is really not clear _what is real._ In this moment, Stephanie seems uncharacteristically out of sync with reality, as she apparently has no idea that there is a problem with her "surprise wedding" scheme (even though, as you say, Macy picks up on this), and yet, Eric is making a very strong case that this "reality" of Thorne preferring Brooke over Macy _isn't real_ (which would make Stephanie _right_ in her belief that Thorne actually wants to marry Macy). In S8, there was really _nothing_ supporting Taylor's reality other than a legal technicality. We always knew that Ridge could go either way between her and Brooke in terms of emotion, and that he would make the comfortable, family-oriented choice and stay in the relationship he had already established. Here, Macy has the support of almost every character on the show as well as the show's entire history, and Thorne doesn't actually _have_ an established relationship with Brooke (only a _potential_ one), making her position much stronger than Taylor's. And yet Macy feels a lot more doubt than Taylor did.
@@annieo6527 To your point about Stephanie in Season 13: sometimes it feels like she suspects or knows what's going on and that's why she's trying to manipulate things and marry Thorne off to Macy, but then other times she seems clueless as you say. That too contributes to the double narrative especially since Stephanie is the show's strongest narrator.
@@NewYorkNick0607 YES! Stephanie's behavior and actions seem almost a little too convenient to be motivated by well-meaning cluelessness. I'm not saying she does know about Brooke and Thorne - in fact, it is an important plot point that she _doesn't_ know - but it's like it's one of those things she "doesn't know that she knows". I think that Stephanie is acting on the _unconscious_ memory of what caused her stroke. And this also fits with something *@FayeIL* pointed out about the wardrobe in this scene - _every character involved in the coverup of Brooke and Thorne's relationship_ is wearing black, while Macy who is being kept in the dark is wearing white. However, _Stephanie too_ is dressed in black - indicating that just maybe she is keeping the secret as well, albeit unconsciously.
@@annieo6527 Interesting theory about Stephanie being more aware than she seems. She’s come off as uncharacteristically clueless the past few episodes, but I’ve been putting that down to her stroke. I like the idea of her being more manipulative than out of it in this storyline.
He loves her attention but he doesn't love her enough to be with her. Every time they were together they were not happy, really happy. Sharing a good time under the sheets was not enough. Their relationship was never and never will be well balanced because Brooke couldn't handle Ridge emotionally. Taylor could handle him under the sheets and emotionally. That's why they lasted in the 90's. And that's why Brooke and Ridge didn't have a real chance until 2002. And even when he didn't want Taylor anymore, Bridge couldn't be as happy as Tridge. They always acted as teenagers because Brooke has never really grown up.
I really didn't need the disgusting and sick flashback scenes if Brooke and Eryuck. 🤢 it could have really be done without it. That are flashback scenes what nightmares are made of.
*Eric the truth-teller* Eric is reliably narrating how Thorne will eventually wake up and regret his relationship with Brooke, just like Eric did. Thorne on the other hand is trying to claim that what he has with Brooke is different from what Eric had (but can't define _how_ it's different). In this context, it is just _wonderful_ use of history to show us the flashback of Eric and Brooke on their wedding day, because ti reminds the viewer (if not Thorne) of the pattern. And ti makes Eric's point of view so much more believable than Thorne's, because in Eric's case, we can actually _see_ the evidence. And when he tells Thorne "your point of view is _wrong",_ he couldn't be more clear about what's happening - Eric is rejecting the "new narrative" on the show.
But as much as Eric is a truth teller about the Thorne-Brooke relationship, his words today in the end sound hollow, when in 2005 Eric ends his marriage to Stephanie just to instantly propose to Brooke again.😏 Today he talks about regretting his divorce and that he then married Brooke, in 2005 he will switch the narrative again and will regret his marriage to Stephanie and talk about how much he loves Brooke. 😵💫
Yes! It's so much more effective when Eric makes this argument than Ridge. Not only because he's Thorne's father and that carries more authority than a brother (who Thorne has a long-standing rivalry with), but also because Eric has actually been in Thorne's shoes. Eric isn't Ridge, the man Brooke has always really wanted, he's the man she settled for when she couldn't have Ridge, and that's what Thorne is now! Eric knows exactly what that position is like and how you can convince yourself that you and Brooke belong together but she will always prefer and want Ridge. It's also ridiculous for Thorne to dismiss his father's past with Brooke when Eric & Brooke's relationship was more substantial than Thorne and Brooke, and Eric has two kids with her!
@@NewYorkNick0607 yes, Thorne comes across as truly bl i nd in this scene because he is talking as if his (barely existent) relationship with Brooke is already more "profound" than his father's marriage and two children with her. Eric failed with Brooke as Thorn will in the future as many other men will including James, Conner and even Nick who in my opinion came the closest to winning Brooke's heart but the obvious fact remains that they all failed because of one man and that is Ridge. Brooke and Ridge will always be the sole mates of this soap no one else even comes close. I just believe that the writers don't want to make it easy so things can be more interesting. Later on Ridge admitted when he told Brooke he never made her his first choice because he wanted to make the safe choice by choosing almost perfect women as he stated. All his women on a pedestal to be worshipped. Brooke was more perfect for him but his was afraid of letting her have all his heart knowing that he could be hurt. That's the reason he eventually left Taylor when he discovered that she wasn't perfect. He ran back to Brooke within minutes.
