I have actually grown to like switch a lot. 2 years ago I hated it with every fiber of my body. Now 60% of the time I am skating is switch. It really turned for me when I got a switch hardflip. My tip to every one watching is to do like 9 or 10 switch ollies in a row. That helped me tremendously. Then everytime you do a switch trick think "ollie first then flip the board." and when you start to do a trick it's going to flip really slow and sluggish, do not give up on it just yet because that is necessary. At first you have to do that in order to understand the flip. Once you do all you have to do is move your feet faster and the board will flip faster. Lastly, i find it really helps to over exaggerate on what you are doing. Because what you think you are doing is exactly what you are doing. For example, what I did with my switch kickflips, I was not flicking my foot out at the right time and I couldn't get a consistent flip. So what I did was I aimed my foot toward the top nose of my board and I bent my knee a lot. Aiming my foot helped to flick my foot out at the right time and putting a lot of emphasis on my knee helped get the flip consistent and kept it under me. Now my rant of skateboarding is over. I hope I helped some people.
@@zankthegreat4291it’ll be easier to learn if you learn both as you go as opposed to getting really used to one leg and then suddenly deciding to learn switch
Switch frontside Heel is one of those tricks that sounds like its hard to do but its actually quite easy once you get comfortable in switch. Switch Heels and frontside 180s feel really natural and easy. Also the more experience and comfortable you are riding a skateboard in general the easier it is to learn switch.
im goofy i can tell u goofy is the best lol sorry regular bro's haha still love tho i just dont like it when a ledge or some obstacle is better suited for u and not me.
If you're already a professional skateboarder like Aaron and want to experience all the fun again; landing new tricks, making progress, etc. just skate switch and learn it all "from scratch" haha
The first thing to learn when skating switch is just roll around and push switch... so simple but I never even thought about it, haha! I've been skating since I was probably 10, but stopped at 18 when I injured my wrist. Now I'm 31 and getting back into it. I'm surprised I can still do a lot of the tricks I used to, but I never ever ever learned anything switch. I think I did myself a disservice there. But I'm going for it now. Thanks for the vids!
I remember going through the same struggle with snowboarding, when I got extremely comfortable with switch, it made my overall boarding a lot better. I was able to do tricks more comfortably.
Just bought sms today. I was inspired to start skating again after about 7 years of not skating at all. Got a new complete about 2 weeks ago and have been using the Trick Tips on this channel in the order suggested in SMS. By next week I should be able to move up to Backside 180's. I've also been practicing switch right away since I got the board, Switch ollies are almost there.
I've been cruising a 22" Penny for about 20 hours now (across 11 days) and started learning to ride switch a few days ago. It's really pleasant to be able to do it until the next day when it seems like everything has to be relearned again (but in quicker time). Switch just offers such a "complete" feeling of contentedness when one isn't slipping off the back, etc. Shoulders and hips, shoulders and hips!
I remember when I was younger I tried learning to skateboard. Had ollies down okay and tried a nollie. Gave myself the ol credit card and stopped shortly after that. Seeing these Braille videos makes me wanna try for fun again even at the age of 29
about a year before i started learning any switch i wanted to get comfy skating switch so I used to cruise around my town switch then winter came and I started learning a lot switch, I got switch kickflips and varial kicks down. Working on fs flips now :)
I used to push mongo, mainly because i never had anyone to teach me and its just what i did, i stopped skating for years and just a few days ago i began to pick it back up from watching a lot of skating vids, and yours have got me inspired as well, im just getting down regular ollie but im trying to ride switch as well and get switch ollies down, because in my opinion might as well learn switch as im learning the basics so that way i can be more well rounded from an earlier time
Your point about pushing normal when riding switch instead of mongo was the best. The more I avoid mongo when riding switch, the more control I feel I have. It's awesome.
Once I got comfortable with popping the board switch, I found it fast and easy to learn the basics 180 and shove it tricks switch. I'm working on switch heels now
I ride goofy but I do my tricks a lot better at switch. Is there anything I can do because I can't even Ollie riding regular but I can do all the basics at switch just not push at switch
I started pushing mongo at like 8 years old and rode around on my board mongo for years before realizing it was frowned upon. Now i push mongo when i’m regular and push regular when i’m switch lol
Something that would be cool to practise switch is to practise with a begginer friend, they dont feel as intimidated and youre re-learning the basics :)
I want to know the easiest way to go from regular to switch & back while rolling forward - like, say you're on a long-distance push, you want to push fairly evenly between your right & left, so either you're pushing Mongo half the time, or you switch stances. How do you recommend going to switch & back again without too much faff and hazard?
When you’re riding switch it seems like you’re using the tail forward. Would it make more sense when in switch to use the tail or the nose of my board?
I started learning how to skate a few months ago and within 2 months I could skate switch, the reason I dedicated to learn is because I have a lot of hills around me so I wanted to be able to rest my main leg and push with my "lazy leg"
I recently sent in a skate support on switch front heels and was wondering if you received it. I really need help with them and would really like some tips!
switch is just riding in the opposite stance to your usual stance. for example; a regular rider riding in switch has the foot placement of a goofy rider (right foot forward, left foot on the tail/pushing) whereas a goofy rider has regular stance foot positions in switch (left foot forward, right foot on the tail/pushing)
hey Aaron, i dont accually know if i sould ride goofy or regular. i m very confortable riding with right foot forward, but i can only ollie with my right foot poping, so... i m trying to find my stance without pushing mango with my right foot. Thanks in advance
I don't care about skating switch at all but I do want to learn to push switch. The reason why, I love doing fakie tricks like fakie bigspin, fakie 3 shuv, half cab, fakie ollie, etc, simple stuff but usually I will do a frontside 180 to put me in fakie stance, but then I can't push switch so unless I'm going down a hill or something, by the time I do the fakie trick, I don't have much speed left. So if I could learn to do a push or two while I'm facing the other direction, it would help make my fakie tricks more accessible, thus making me a more well rounded skater and improving my style. So that's my goal. Unfortunately I'm recovering from shoulder surgery, an injury caused by skateboarding. Oh well, hopefully in a few more weeks I'll be out there, ripping around and tearing laces.
Question: I find kickflips a lot easier than heelflips. Why is it that in your line up, the heelflip is before the kickflip? Everyone that i know agrees that kickflips are easier.
Heel Flips are easier to learn than Kick Flips, with Heel Flips it's just an Ollie that you kick out from the side, easy to get to learn. With Kick Flips you have to kind of understand the board differently and commit differently.
I agree they are easier but I learned heelflips first but kickflips are easier. Kickflips requir a whole different level of different commitment though so thats why they are first.
King Barney totally disagree, i guess it's different for everyone, the kickflip for me feels much more like an ollie, whereas heels my legs are going in opposite directions, i learned kickflips first and they're the trick i can catch midair smoothly :D not heels ^^ like i said, guess everyone's different!
Hello, I'm from Brazil and, I have seen so much videos of ur channel... I like so much and u r so helpful.. Thanks man! Sorry for my English... Hope u read and understand something lol ... A big hug man, skate for fun
i can tell that Aaron are improving his switch by watching him pivoting around almost like walking , you know what i'm saying, i noticed it from many previous of his videos, nice Aaron ! Switcher are killer in a game of skate, by watching this video i want ride switch tomorrow even though my regular still new, i can ride switch NOT very comfort but i can roll and ride switch fast STRAIGHT almost fast as my regular BUT I PUSH MONGO, and tomorrow i want try to pushing switch regular, no mongo :D
Fun fact: if anyone didn't know the term goofy comes from surfing because it was normal to have the dominant foot in the back to turn on the wave so goofy was to have the left in the back. when skateboarding became popular they used the same term. People though liked to have the right foot in the front do kick and do tricks. They kept the term goofy though. So goofy is more common in skateboarding but less common in surfing
This is the very first thing I did when I first started skating last month. For every 1 lap I took regular I took 2 or more laps switch. I refuse to go through the hell I went through in snowboarding trying to learn switch 7 years after the fact. :)
I'm having serious issues trying to push while switch (I ride regular for reference) and I can't even push mongo switch. Tips for learning to push switch and get comfortable with the stance?
everywhere you cruise just go switch. when you ride fakie and need some more speed, push switch. you can't really get any reply secret tips on learning that faster, you just gotta get used to it. I always compare everything I learn switch to when I learned it in my regular stance. it's basically the same, but you could try some tricks nollie first before doing them switch, some are easier that way
So I really need to learn how to Ollie. Last time I tried I broke my arm so was wondering in I tighten my wheels. So They dont roll. Will it help practicing stationary. If you could let me know. Amd do a video to all future clutz like me. Let me know thanx
To me, if you are bad at balancing initially, try improving stability, then follow a few ollie tutorial videos so you dont break your arm again. Or you could wear pads, that too.
i can switch just nollies... i suck at heelflips but can do tripple kicks... the only trick between olly i can do is a bs pop shove it however i did not skate for 10 years and tried it today however i landed the heelflip on manual... and the varial kick ... but i suck at fs shove it
Ok i understand switch now my question is i got stuck skating mango goofy footed but i do ollie regular but cant skate regular where and how should do i begin on the right way
hi ive been skating goofy because i learned that way but I'm right footed so if I learn to skate regular tricks would be a lot easier but if I learn mongo it would be faster to learn so my question is should I learn to skate regular or mongo
I've got SMS vol. 1, but I would really like to see some videos of you showing us how you glide/flow so well, wheel walk (for lack of a better term), and flip/switch the board back to nose position like you do in this video. All those little things no one really covers.
i need to know were your foot suppsod to go on your board i ride a 7.75. i been riding since july 2014 i just want to know does on the bots or behind the two bots im goofy. also i want how to pick more speed when i push it seem i dont go far i push little behind my front foot.
I've been skating since July also but I'm past the learning how to cruise phase.I'm now learning how to cruise switch lml.I had the same problem as you, honestly its all personal preference. How I positioned my feet to cruise was back foot horizontal covering all 4 bolts and and front foot horizontal covering all 4 bolts and vertical covering all 4 bolts when pushing.Doing this is just for the sake of learning as you get more comfortable you will constantly alter your foot positioning and eventually have your own default riding stance.I did that and now my foot positioning is back foot horizontal covering all 4 bolts and front foot vertical covering only the 1st 2 bolts when pushing and diagonal covering the 1st 2 bolts when I'm not pushing. To go farther when your pushing you need to have more powerful pushes. To do this you may need to place your back foot a lil in front of your front foot when pushing like walking and doing it faster with more power. If you don't got the balance to give off powerful pushes you will fall and relapse back into smaller pushes so make sure your able to balance enough before giving off bigger faster pushes to roll faster and longer.Your bearing might suck, need to be cleaned or both which is why you may not be rolling for long if your doing all of that but hopefully that's not the case.I know your comments over 3 weeks old so you may not be having these issues but if you still are hopefully this helps.
Same here! I do tricks regular but skate goofy. It’s the most annoying thing on earth because I’m extremely comfortable riding goofy but can’t do tricks for the life of me that way
I tried to just push and roll switch on my longboard yesterday because I figure I can get twice the distance and I legitimately got the leg shakes back and fell off the board forward. It's so unfamiliar
i'm beggining at switch skating, i prefer nollie better ^^ nollie and nollie bs is really cool imo ^^ my goal is to land some good switch flip, i can sw ollie, sw ollie fs, sw fs pop shuv and that about it, sometimes sw pop shuv ^^
So I originally learned goofy...but I have been skating since 2013 and the only I have ever been able to land without it being an accident is Ollie, frontside 180, heelflip, and front and back shove it...I plan on learning switch so I can transition "switch" into "regular" or to say just act like I've been skating switch this entire time...I have come to this because like come on I see vids of kids getting grinds and boardslides in there first year...I have tried oh so hard but no progression is happening
Hristijan its no real use for now at least you wont learn any switch before say a year of skating but its always a good thing if youre confy in switch stance
I'm having a weird problem where i'm super comfortable riding and pushing goofy, but i only feel comfortable popping with my right foot..i can even do a few tricks regular- i tried pushing mongo regular but i have a hard time setting up for tricks and i feel really uncomfortable riding regular - so should i work on pushing regular or work on tricking goofy? i'm stuck
That's an ollie south. Try and keep it on the board for normal ollies, it helps if you push your nose down harder mid air which will bring the tail up towards your back foot.
I have actually grown to like switch a lot. 2 years ago I hated it with every fiber of my body. Now 60% of the time I am skating is switch. It really turned for me when I got a switch hardflip. So you're trying to learn switch.
The only tip i have for you is keep practicing just like you did to learn regular tricks.
So when learning a kickflip would it be best to learn switch?
switch is so hard everytime i push i loose my balance any tips on how to keep balance while pushing
Glad you're learning more switch keep it up Arron and thanks for the daily vids!:)
Ok, so when you're riding switch, you have the tail of the skateboard in front and the nose at the back?
switch is just riding in the opposite stance to your usual stance. for example; a regular rider riding in switch has the foot placement of a goofy rider (right foot forward, left foot on the tail/pushing) whereas a goofy rider has regular stance foot positions in switch (left foot forward, right foot on the tail/pushing)

hey Aaron, i dont accually know if i sould ride goofy or regular. i m very confortable riding with right foot forward, but i can only ollie with my right foot poping, so... i m trying to find my stance without pushing mango with my right foot.
Oh well, hopefully in a few more weeks I'll be out there, ripping around and tearing laces.

i can switch just nollies... i suck at heelflips but can do tripple kicks... the only trick between olly i can do is a bs pop shove it however i did not skate for 10 years and tried it today however i landed the heelflip on manual... and the varial kick ... but i suck at fs shove it
Ok i understand switch now my question is i got stuck skating mango goofy footed but i do ollie regular but cant skate regular where and how should do i begin on the right way
hold on so if your goofy then a switch ollie would be a regular ollie right not a goofy ollie like your used to?
hi ive been skating goofy because i learned that way but I'm right footed so if I learn to skate regular tricks would be a lot easier but if I learn mongo it would be faster to learn so my question is should I learn to skate regular or mongo
Learn to skate regular
hey aaron can you do no-comply f/s 180 tutorial?
So switch is relative?
Aaron is such a perfectionist
Ok I skate regular but push with my left foot. What am I doing wrong ...
I landed three switch flips without rolling yesterday because I was camping so it didn’t have any concrete so now I got to do them rolling
I used to push mongo now i got used to regular so no one can tell if im doing fakie or nollie tricks cause my goofy pushes are as good as my regular
I ride regular and for some reason I literally can’t Ollie on regular, so I learnt it doing a goofy stance 😭 I have no clue what I should do now 😬
Same here! I do tricks regular but skate goofy. It’s the most annoying thing on earth because I’m extremely comfortable riding goofy but can’t do tricks for the life of me that way
TheAlvinTV it sucks but now I guess we either have to learn how to ride the other way or re learn the tricks that way 😐
I tried to just push and roll switch on my longboard yesterday because I figure I can get twice the distance and I legitimately got the leg shakes back and fell off the board forward. It's so unfamiliar
what shoes does he skate?
i'm beggining at switch skating, i prefer nollie better ^^ nollie and nollie bs is really cool imo ^^ my goal is to land some good switch flip, i can sw ollie, sw ollie fs, sw fs pop shuv and that about it, sometimes sw pop shuv ^^
+Vinial Hugo lel i can now switch flip nollie flip same for heels and i can sw fs bigspin and sw fs flip sometimes, and nollie fs flip
Is it good for me to learn switch before tricks?
Hristijan its no real use for now at least you wont learn any switch before say a year of skating but its always a good thing if youre confy in switch stance
I have trouble getting on after pushing
I'm having a weird problem where i'm super comfortable riding and pushing goofy, but i only feel comfortable popping with my right foot..i can even do a few tricks regular- i tried pushing mongo regular but i have a hard time setting up for tricks and i feel really uncomfortable riding regular - so should i work on pushing regular or work on tricking goofy? i'm stuck
both
Can u do this nollie too
Clean switch flips
Arron you should do a video where you try to do a late kick flip
Hey when I Ollie I can only do it holding on to something and they are good so how can teach my self not to hold on to something?
How do you olie higher???
Is it good to ollie with your back foot going of the board? Pls reply someone
That's an ollie south. Try and keep it on the board for normal ollies, it helps if you push your nose down harder mid air which will bring the tail up towards your back foot.

thnx man
Hey man cause I ride mongo with my left foot forward and I find it difficult to olly would u be able to help me
I cant do much switch but for some reason switch front pops are easier and I pop them much higher then regular ones lol
Awesome switch tricks aaron kyro
so true. switch push is hard first times
i push mongo and i really need to quit but its so sketchy learning to push with my right foot
