  • In this video, I look at the Epiphone Riviera Frequensator, the most recent version of the Riviera, and a pleasant return to the features that made Epiphones unique in the 1960s. I evaluate just how well they did reviving this model, and demo the sounds through my Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb with no pedals.

    I love Epiphone. I have always had to do them up, as they are always lacking. I love the Casino hollow body. I was jumping for joy when they released a USA made Casino. I have it sat right here near my pimped up Chinese Casino. I do love that Tail gate on the Riviera. Noel Gallagher plays one, has a Model out, i am tempted. i like that finish.

    Nice and soulful playing, you don’t overplay like so many of the RUclips blues guys…great use of space, that’s the sign of a mature/experienced player. Guitar sounds great and very pleasing aesthetically, thanks for the review ✌️

    I own the same Riviera in Sparkle burgandy. off the wall from guitar center and the set-up was actually nicely done. had to raise the treble side of the bridge a fourth of a turn. Sounds great. PLay thru a Peavey classic 50 tube head and peavey 6 by 10 cabinent with Eminence red coat speakers. I enjoy your reviews and knowledge. And guitar playing. Even my wife Jennifer enjoys the videos.

    Thank you Leonard, great playing and comments. It does look like a great reproduction given the price as you say. I had an original 1960s Riviera I got in 69 and it was utterly reliable. This new model has me thinking and I love the Royal Tan. Best regards. Mark

      Thanks Mark. The modern reissue isn’t going to be anywhere near the level of your original USA model, but it is a reasonably nice guitar that does have the vibe. It’s a decent player and should hold up fine, without costing a fortune.

    Hi, I feel my strings are too short with the tailpiece frequensator, I use Ernie ball super slinky strings and I’m only getting 1-2 wraps around sometimes not even a full wrap on the strings.

      I’ve heard some have this problem. I didn’t have the issue with my GHS Boomers, but the D-string was close.

    I bought one a year ago. It plays great and sounds great. I love it. I would like a cherry finish over burgundy mist but it's nice finish work. Thanks for the review and i enjoy your playing.

    I have a 1996 Epiphone Riviera that my wife gifted me for Christmas 1996. Unlike the originals in the 1960s as well as the more recent Riviera models, mine has full sized Humbuckers instead of the minis. It wasn't a mod as this was a brand new guitar. In fact, I have the Epiphone catalog for that year and the Riviera is pictured with full sized Humbuckers. I play a lot of blues and jazz and when I'm on the jazz kick, I use flat wound strings. Until a few years ago, I was able to obtain D'Aquisto flats 11 - 48. They were the only brand that had a long enough "D" string to run from the short piece of the Frequensator tailpiece to the top tuning peg. Now I have to replace the short piece of the tailpiece with a long piece (picked up a replacement Frequensator) in order to use flats. Love the guitar! And love your playing and insights on the products you review. I still jam weekly with some old pals...and I mean old! Let me put it this way, I was born in the first half of the last century. (1949)

      You’re not alone my friend. I’m not much younger.
      Yes, I remember seeing that version of the Riviera from the 90s. I didn’t use flats on the one I reviewed and my usual GHS strings worked fine, thankfully. Glad you found a solution.
      Thanks so much for watching.

    " . . . it looks cool". And sounds cool in your hands - lovely playing, thanks for the vid, there is one of each floating round the dealers shops here in HK (natural and sparkling burgundy) - will ask them to send both to my 'local' for a test run! I bought their current Casino and put Lollar P90s / 50s wiring + bone nut into it and I reckon that's as close as I'll get to 60s 'Beatles' Casinos sound save spending lots for a vintage model. The Casino neck is really friendly - super slimline.

      If you like the Casino neck, the Riviera neck won't be far off.

    Just bought this today used, same color. Time usually tells how good it will be but so far so good. There is some fret sharpness that I need to be filed down. The previous owner never took off the plastic on the pickups so it is pretty much like new. Enough typing, it is time to check out this Riviera in my house.

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845
      @leonardgriffieblues5845  Год назад

      That’s great. Yeah, I’ve found the prickly fret ends to be a persistent problem with modern Epiphones. Not hard to fix but buyers shouldn’t have to do it. Thanks for watching.

      I believe that would require some routing. I’m pretty sure the mini-humbucker openings are too small for P90s.
