Interestingly enough, I was almost infected by a nasty bit of malware from a game CD I had bought off of Amazon that I wanted to use to install a game from my childhood, but ultimately my AV detected it as malicious. This same disc which was used on a friend's computer afterwards, not heeding my warning, were soon after infected from attempting to run the install. So I guess that's another way malware can be spread.
However the creators of the ILOVEYOU virus was not arrested, since we don't have a law yet for cybercrimes. Funny thing tho, the creators were college students, who got their thesis denied(?), and thus made that virus as a revenge(?) to the school and professors.
I've only gotten a virus once. It was a Trojan virus and I think it probably took me a month or something to find out. Kind of sucked that I had to do a 1-2 hour virus scan of my whole computer to find it, I'm glad it didn't do major damage to my computer

My pc got so slow that when i wanted to search anything it just froze and after 10 min of waiting it only showed search the web for (e.x.) settings. my task manager wouldn't open. window's virus and threat protection got deactivated and it even prevented me from formating my pc and encrypted all my files. It said in a text pay $980 to get them back. i found a way to format it and it's finally fixed but all my data is lost
My grandpa got hacked on Facebook today he fell for a scam and his name was changed to Chris the hackers told him that Microsoft had locked his computer and to call the phone number on the phone there was one of the hackers he said that Microsoft will unlock his pc for $100.00. I think it is funny his name was chris

I actually remember, our family computer in around 2004 got the Bagle virus. To this day, it hasn't been removed from that PC as it spread to like everywhere.
One time a friend of mine showed me a cool Chrome extension, and accidentally installed the wrong one that was actually a clone of the correct one, but with one difference. I started seeing ads all over the place, and looked up the keyword on all the ads, and apparently it was a common adware out there often put in Chrome extensions. So in other words, never trust someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing to download sketchy software.
I have a mac, and I wanted to download a game. I didn't know how, so I watched a tutorial. I followed the link they had and downloaded the file. I opened the file. And then there was a message on my terminal. I didn't read it. 1 second later, I had so many windows open that I couldn't see what they were, except the last one It was chrome, filled with tabs. The names were: cry, escape, die, ETC. Somehow, it didn't lag my computer. So I spammed command and Q. And in a few seconds, the windows were gone. There were a bunch of files in the downloads folder, so I highlighted all of them and threw them to the trash. It took a few seconds, since it was maybe 100 or more. The malware was useless against a mac. I was so worried that it would be the end. That is my story, don't fall into the same trap as I did.

Also has anyone manually defeated one these viruses? I know at my job I usually get rid of viruses manually by checking every file for its traces and wiping it, but those are small viruses that don't really do much, maybe slow the computer down a bit or so

One day back in 4th grade, I was playing UnblockedGames on my assigned chromebook and I ended up somehow going to a *Hacked Free FNAF* website, (this was back when I didn't really know about the dangers of hackers). I got a popup saying *FNAF 2 Free Download* now, the second installment was not on the UnblockedGames website, it was only number 1. I thought that 2 was more fun anyways, so I decided to download it, whats the worst that can happen? Well, it ended up infecting the computer with a virus. At first I tried to hide it from the teachers, but eventually it started beeping so I just could not. After a 2 hour talk with Tech Support, and $300 out of Mrs. Smith's wallet, it was fixed. I never forgot that day, and I bet that Mrs. Smith won't either.
I think my pc has a virus it HAD forced me to download a website called "wether blink" I checked my antivirus then it had removed 2 threats so I reported it to the chrome store (it was on the chrome store) and deleted it. Also for roblox players there is also a virus saying "you're almost in the game!" From the chrome store DO NOT INSTALL IT YOU CAN SKIP IT And for weather blink is forced on RUclips. I had a virus after using a gif file in my OBS software and it made my computer crash and the mouse would move with trails only, I got rid of that file straight away, that was the other day. Also had the empty folder bug on my desktop which I got rid of by deleting certain keys in my registry in Win 11. Great video btw :) The empty folder bug in Windows 11 creates thousands of folders without anything inside of them. Folders appear inside C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local. You must have admin privileges to access these folders. The empty folders begin with “tw” and end with a “.tmp” extension. How to Fix the Windows 11 Empty Folder Bug If you have admin privileges, you can delete the empty folders without causing any issues. Doing so will make them disappear temporarily. However, as soon as you restart your computer, the files will come back.
For a more in-depth reason they got their name, we call them viruses because back in the day everything ran off of floppy disks. So just like in real life, you had to come in contact with a "virus" to catch it. So before the internet, this contact was a computer accepting a floppy disk. Which, the virus would then contaminate the floppy disk and then in turn contaminate any computer in came into contact with that floppy disk. It got its name from the way it was caught, which was through direct physical contact.

One day back in 4th grade, I was playing UnblockedGames on my assigned chromebook and I ended up somehow going to a *Hacked Free FNAF* website, (this was back when I didn't really know about the dangers of hackers). I got a popup saying *FNAF 2 Free Download* now, the second installment was not on the UnblockedGames website, it was only number 1. I thought that 2 was more fun anyways, so I decided to download it, whats the worst that can happen? Well, it ended up infecting the computer with a virus. At first I tried to hide it from the teachers, but eventually it started beeping so I just could not. After a 2 hour talk with Tech Support, and $300 out of Mrs. Smith's wallet, it was fixed. I never forgot that day, and I bet that Mrs. Smith won't either.

I think my pc has a virus it HAD forced me to download a website called "wether blink" I checked my antivirus then it had removed 2 threats so I reported it to the chrome store (it was on the chrome store) and deleted it. Also for roblox players there is also a virus saying "you're almost in the game!" From the chrome store DO NOT INSTALL IT YOU CAN SKIP IT
And for weather blink is forced on RUclips.

I had a virus after using a gif file in my OBS software and it made my computer crash and the mouse would move with trails only, I got rid of that file straight away, that was the other day. Also had the empty folder bug on my desktop which I got rid of by deleting certain keys in my registry in Win 11. Great video btw :)
The empty folder bug in Windows 11 creates thousands of folders without anything inside of them.
Folders appear inside C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local.
You must have admin privileges to access these folders.
The empty folders begin with “tw” and end with a “.tmp” extension.
How to Fix the Windows 11 Empty Folder Bug
If you have admin privileges, you can delete the empty folders without causing any issues.
Doing so will make them disappear temporarily.
However, as soon as you restart your computer, the files will come back.

For a more in-depth reason they got their name, we call them viruses because back in the day everything ran off of floppy disks. So just like in real life, you had to come in contact with a "virus" to catch it. So before the internet, this contact was a computer accepting a floppy disk. Which, the virus would then contaminate the floppy disk and then in turn contaminate any computer in came into contact with that floppy disk. It got its name from the way it was caught, which was through direct physical contact.
