Interestingly enough, I was almost infected by a nasty bit of malware from a game CD I had bought off of Amazon that I wanted to use to install a game from my childhood, but ultimately my AV detected it as malicious. This same disc which was used on a friend's computer afterwards, not heeding my warning, were soon after infected from attempting to run the install. So I guess that's another way malware can be spread.

My grandpa got hacked on Facebook today he fell for a scam and his name was changed to Chris the hackers told him that Microsoft had locked his computer and to call the phone number on the phone there was one of the hackers he said that Microsoft will unlock his pc for $100.00. I think it is funny his name was chris

I have a mac, and I wanted to download a game. I didn't know how, so I watched a tutorial. I followed the link they had and downloaded the file. I opened the file. And then there was a message on my terminal. I didn't read it. 1 second later, I had so many windows open that I couldn't see what they were, except the last one It was chrome, filled with tabs. The names were: cry, escape, die, ETC. Somehow, it didn't lag my computer. So I spammed command and Q. And in a few seconds, the windows were gone. There were a bunch of files in the downloads folder, so I highlighted all of them and threw them to the trash. It took a few seconds, since it was maybe 100 or more. The malware was useless against a mac. I was so worried that it would be the end. That is my story, don't fall into the same trap as I did.

So in other words, never trust someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing to download sketchy software.
I am LUCKY AF that I was so incredibly scared. (Context after you read) So my friend told me there was this new character added to a tv show we both used to like. I decided to search that character up, being a bit interested. I clicked a link to learn more about it. Suddenly I was reading a notice on my screen. It was so long ago that I don't remember the exact wording, but it said something like this. 'A virus is being installed into your computer. Click OK to stop the virus from running.' My mom later told me if I hadn't closed the tab and hit OK, the virus would have most likely installed into my computer. I don't know/remember what it was called, or what it would do, but i was LUCKY.

One day back in 4th grade, I was playing UnblockedGames on my assigned chromebook and I ended up somehow going to a *Hacked Free FNAF* website, (this was back when I didn't really know about the dangers of hackers). I got a popup saying *FNAF 2 Free Download* now, the second installment was not on the UnblockedGames website, it was only number 1. I thought that 2 was more fun anyways, so I decided to download it, whats the worst that can happen? Well, it ended up infecting the computer with a virus. At first I tried to hide it from the teachers, but eventually it started beeping so I just could not. After a 2 hour talk with Tech Support, and $300 out of Mrs. Smith's wallet, it was fixed. I never forgot that day, and I bet that Mrs. Smith won't either.
For a more in-depth reason they got their name, we call them viruses because back in the day everything ran off of floppy disks. So just like in real life, you had to come in contact with a "virus" to catch it. So before the internet, this contact was a computer accepting a floppy disk. Which, the virus would then contaminate the floppy disk and then in turn contaminate any computer in came into contact with that floppy disk. It got its name from the way it was caught, which was through direct physical contact.
The one who created the iloveyou virus lived in my hometown. There's a story circulating here about that 'young programmer' finding a vulnerability (I'm not an I.T. person so forgive my words lol) and he used that fact in his thesis proposal, which, of course, got turned down. So basically he created the virus to prove the vulnerability and possibly revenge against the professor.

Also has anyone manually defeated one these viruses? I know at my job I usually get rid of viruses manually by checking every file for its traces and wiping it, but those are small viruses that don't really do much, maybe slow the computer down a bit or so
I think my pc has a virus it HAD forced me to download a website called "wether blink" I checked my antivirus then it had removed 2 threats so I reported it to the chrome store (it was on the chrome store) and deleted it. Throwback to when "Your computer has been hacked by highly trained monkeys" popped up on my teacher's smart board before the board and computer shut down without warning
One day back in 4th grade, I was playing UnblockedGames on my assigned chromebook and I ended up somehow going to a *Hacked Free FNAF* website, (this was back when I didn't really know about the dangers of hackers). I got a popup saying *FNAF 2 Free Download* now, the second installment was not on the UnblockedGames website, it was only number 1. I thought that 2 was more fun anyways, so I decided to download it, whats the worst that can happen? Well, it ended up infecting the computer with a virus. At first I tried to hide it from the teachers, but eventually it started beeping so I just could not. After a 2 hour talk with Tech Support, and $300 out of Mrs. Smith's wallet, it was fixed. I never forgot that day, and I bet that Mrs. Smith won't either.

For a more in-depth reason they got their name, we call them viruses because back in the day everything ran off of floppy disks. So just like in real life, you had to come in contact with a "virus" to catch it. So before the internet, this contact was a computer accepting a floppy disk. Which, the virus would then contaminate the floppy disk and then in turn contaminate any computer in came into contact with that floppy disk. It got its name from the way it was caught, which was through direct physical contact.
The one who created the iloveyou virus lived in my hometown. There's a story circulating here about that 'young programmer' finding a vulnerability (I'm not an I.T. person so forgive my words lol) and he used that fact in his thesis proposal, which, of course, got turned down. So basically he created the virus to prove the vulnerability and possibly revenge against the professor.
the creator was from the Philippines and he did it so he could steal their passwords and accounts for services in the internet so he didn’t have to pay for them so that story is sadly false

I know at my job I usually get rid of viruses manually by checking every file for its traces and wiping it, but those are small viruses that don't really do much, maybe slow the computer down a bit or so

I think my pc has a virus it HAD forced me to download a website called "wether blink" I checked my antivirus then it had removed 2 threats so I reported it to the chrome store (it was on the chrome store) and deleted it. Also for roblox players there is also a virus saying "you're almost in the game!" From the chrome store DO NOT INSTALL IT YOU CAN SKIP IT
And for weather blink is forced on RUclips.
