I'll say it here, Green Lantern wasnt that bad. I am not calling it the best movie too by the way. Hell, I didnt know anything about the character before this movie, and it explained the 'working rules' of the green lantern corps so well that I was intrigued. That led to me reading the entirety of Geoff Johns' almost decade long run in the GL comics!

  • @FrogJuiceJustice

I have a weird association with these comic book movies that are held in lesser regards and family vacations/ road trips.
I remember finding X-Men origins wolverine & batman and Robin in the movie bins of cabins that my family would rent for a week, and watching those movies when there were crazy storms outside. It was such a surreal atmosphere. Like nothing can ever beat watching those movies for the first time, being trapped in a midday snow storm with oddly veiny Bane or the incessant clanging of nonstop thunder while I became increasingly more confused by wolverine's origin since that movie totally went against most of what I had learned from the the DK X-Men encyclopedias that I had checked out from the library.
I also remember watching Green Lantern on a tiny minivan DVD player screen and having to really squint to make out anything on screen during the space scenes, all while my 5 year old little brother was dumping apple juice into his "secret compartment" in the backseat

    • @TitularHeroine
      @TitularHeroine Год назад +2

"Secret compartment" 😂😂 The power of association, for sure. Despite being panned from most quarters, I got to end what was literally the worst day of my life by going out with family (my partner, my brother, & sister in law) to see Man of Steel. Compared to the crapfest of that day it was absolute bliss -- and it looks gorgeous.

I liked the second film, too, as a lifelong Marvel fan it was good to see a live action Silver Surfer, something only CGI could even attempt, and again he seems close to the source material, in looks and execution.

I'll say one nice thing about the 2003 Daredevil movie. I really like the score by Graeme Revell. Sometimes I try writing a bit of Daredevil fan fiction just for fun and when I do I always play the score from that movie. I also like the Daredevil costume in the movie more than the one in the netflix show. Yeah it's cringe that they turned it into a leather jacket but I think the mask looks really good and it looks more like a superhero costume. I don't hate the Netflix costume but it looks like paintball gear at times. So that's two nice things about that movie!

quantumania is not my worst superhero movie, i actually really liked it, but i think part of that was because hank pym felt a lot more accurate to the comics, instead of being a grumpy old guy, he's just a really big nerd. I also loved the scene during the final battle where he calls up all the ants. it doesn't fix the fact that he should've been the mcu's ant man but it does give me some catharsis

The Roger Corman´s produced Fantastic Four movie may have its defects but the plot moves along, there are no filler scenes, you understand whats going on at all times, the motivations are clear and the performances are not as bad (except the guy playing Johnny Storm). With a better director and effects, that script can easily be adapted into the FF for the MCU.

I'm just going to say it: I don't agree with Kelsey Grammar being pitch perfect for Beast. Now, I was never a super huge fan of the X-Men as a kid. I was more into Spider-Man, and mostly my exposure to the X-Men was pilfering my brother's comics and reading them. So maybe I'm wrong about the character. But I always got this sense of just... gentleness and peace from Beast that I don't think Kelsey has. That always seemed sort of the point of the character, the sadness of him. The juxtaposition of this calm and gentle man who outwardly looked like this big burly monster. He wasn't meek, like the Hulk, but was just sort of... a very gentle sort of man. Yes, he was incredibly smart and scientific, but he was also soft and a bit childlike.
I don't know who I would have chosen instead, but I don't think Kelsey was as perfect for Beast as, say, Martin Freeman was for Bilbo.

Regarding Batman and Robin, Uma Thurman understood the assignment. She was probably the one who really knew the kind of movie she was doing. She is fantastic. As for that Gotham, I love it too. It's different from the masterfull expresionism that Burton developed specially in Batman Returns, but at least it has personality, even if it is too much personality. In that regard I hate the "pseudoChicago" created by Nolan. I love the neo noir Gotham created by Reeves, it has the appropriate mix between gothic and realistic.

My nice things about the movies you left out:
Howard the Duck: Lea Thompson, and some moments get a genuine laugh of me ("That's a duck! That's a duck!" and Tim Robbins' gibberish, for example.)
Fant4stic: *Almost* works as a body horror movie -- a tone which just doesn't work for the FF.
    Jonah Hex: 404 Error
Blade: Trinity: A funny commentary on the modern fetishisation of vampires. That, and one of the greatest insults in all of cinema (IYKYK).
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance: Nicolas Cage is dedicated as ever, and the Rider himself looks pretty cool.
Dark Phoneix: Sophie Turner does a good job, and I'll never complain about a Dazzler cameo.
The Spirit: Represents the completion of Frank Miller's transformation to Crazy Frank Miller; an essential for every fan.
Elektra: Jennifer Garner does her best, God bless her.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine: You can't say that Hugh Jackman and Liev Shcreiber aren't having a ball. Also paved the way for Deadpool, which I'll always be thankful for.
Morbius: The scene where he goes "It's Morbin' time!" and Morbs all over the place.
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace: You can't not love Christopher Reeve.
Supergirl: Helen Slater plays a total sweetheart.
Steel: At least they're being self-aware. Also the henchman squealing, "NOOOOO!"
Suicide Squad: Margot Robbie set the template for live-action Harley Quinn.
Black Adam: Could've been a great Justice Society movie.

X-Men: The Last Stand - Best soundtrack of any X-Men film to date.
Oh, I can easily cite a positive thing in any movie.
But scenes that are TERRIBLE can be just as impactful as things that are good. I've watched Manos: Hands of Fate over 20 times, and I appreciate what the director tried to do. But even in hindsight, it's still utter shit.

Colin Farrell as over the top Bullseye and Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin that should have been in a different movie

I recently rewatched the 2005 Fantastic Four movie and honestly, not a bad film AT ALL. Definetly, of the time, a bit outdated and very corny at some parts, but it's such a fun and charming film.

I guess a lot of people hate X-Men Dark Phoenix, but I just think Michael Fassbender does such a great job as Magneto it's worth it. The Mask is also a childhood favorite! love the channel 🤘

The flash had some beautiful imagery that I feel are on par with a Snyder directed film (I’m a Snyder fan so I consider this a positive, but opinions vary 😂)
The DCU has established the fact that their movies’ imagery’s aren’t going to necessarily mirror the real world. It looks fantastical like a lot of comics. And I genuinely enjoyed the nods to all the former justice league members/actors

Eh, nothing reallly stops you having more then one MODOK, you can basically turn anyone into one. And theres basically infinite Kangs to make infintie MODOKs (or even AIM just recovering some of the tech).
He'd probably fit better in as a villain in one of the TV shows though (and sort of already was in Agents of Shield, in a very adapted form), which might stretch to do the effect well.

there actually is technically 2 M.O.D.O.Ks in the comics, there is a villain named M.O.D.A.M who is fairly obscure and is a female character but she's basically just M.O.D.O.K with little differences and the mcu is not against using obscure comics as a reference

I have two, actually, but they were both TV movies so I don't know if they meet the criteria... Dr Strange (1978) and Captain America (1979). I was only two and three years old respectively, and didn't see them until my mid-teens. Seriously, they're like Toxic Avenger levels of BAD, but seeing them through the lens of nostalgia, they have a certain appeal. I mean, the people who made them tried SO HARD, but quite patently had almost no (if any! 😱) actual familiarity with the lore of the source material. That being said, and acknowledging a certain amount of being spoiled by the astronomical progression of technologies over the years... they're actually a pretty nice romp down memory lane. 🤣👍

I had high hopes for the Green Lantern movie. But, they tried to stuff too much material into the film. Hector Hammond should have been the villain. Will power vs brain power. And the GL Corps, Guardians, and Oa should have showed up at the end. To set up a sequel.

I saw Batman and Robin as a pre-teen and it was perfectly good for its intended audience. It wasn't until I got older that I was like "ew, batman and robin sucks, batman should be dark and gritty" and now I'm a dumb 30 something who's again happy to have my silly ass one-liner movie.

I've watched & also defended Green Lantern 2011 in the past when i was little. Ryan Reynolds did a great job as Hal Jordan similar to the other castings that were good, but bad writing like Garfield's Spider-Man & Cavill's Superman. If Reynolds make a great performance as Green Lantern/Hal Jordan? We wouldn't have Deadpool. & Also the suit looks poorly made out of CGI & it could have made the suit real & make the black patterns in his suit made out of texture.
