- Another superb song from the pen of Marty Robbins sung as only he could. The class of the guy just shines through. One of THE great singers, possessor of one of the finest voices ever heard, stunningly versatile and one hell of a songwriter. Mighty entertaining on stage as well.

there are no words to describe this man and his music.
Marty could more than hold his own with any crooner from that era (but I think the good Lord put a few extra corpusles of tenderness in his voice! Been a fan since 1971!)
nobody comes close to him marty is just superb
nother great one tarquin. thanks
Good one!!!
Both the vocal and arrangement sound like one of Sinatra’s great Capitol singles from the 50s. Marty always had such wonderful variety in his recorded output.
Deborah, I agree.
5 stars to ya
I just telling the spirit inmy body the originaly long tim
There are at least two versions of this song, I wish I knew which year each is from!
The first is from 1966 which was vaulted until 1984, then the second was recorded in 1968 released on 'By The Time I Get To Pheonix' the same year
@@adammc2339 Thank you!

This song is a Sinatra style genre. Nothing to knock Frank, but he basically sang in the same genre/style. This song shows Marty can sing a Sinatra style and moreover Marty wrote it. As a singer, Marty definitely trumps Sinatra as he sang gospel, country and western, rock n roll, rhythm n blues, Hawaiian, Mexican, big band swing. I know I forgot something. Sam Cooke and Marty were the two best.
