It's beautiful. She looks like she is getting a lot of enjoyment out of that dress. You have done a good job.

A sewing student of mine and I had the motto: embellish the problems away. Hiding a wonky seam under a belt is very couture of you, dahling ;) But I love all of your videos and the dresses are so lovely.

I enjoy you sewing dresses and stuff. I also enjoyed you talk about your Bible Study. I would really enjoy that. Alas I’m too old.

These videos make me so happy. I'm not Mennonite but I do have a religious modesty dress code (I'm Apostolic) and it's SO nice to see other people making historical sewing content that I can relate to on such a deep level. Also YOU'RE SO SWEET AND WHOLESOME AND YOU CLEARLY LOVE DOING THIS and the joy you radiate is so calming to watch. Thank you so much for sharing!

Exquisite! The lace on the hem totally pulls the entire gown together! This dress turned out so well!

Delighted to have you back. Ah, the plight of the floor cutters. Also, I like how the skirt is just the tiniest bit twirly, but not so you would really notice. 😁

What differences do you get between your sewing machines? I know nothing about stitches either. I'd love to learn how to do rolled edges on delicate fabrics so I can make scarves and head coverings and roll the edges on the sheer fabrics. I've seen that there are different ways to do the neck on the bodice when attaching the cape. Do you have any good books for beginners?

Wonderful dress. Could you please reduce the volume of the music in the background. It is so loud I cant hear you and it is extremely distracting.

  • @LampWaters

I'm just starting out. I have a vintage singer at the repair shop now but its not as old as yours. It has an awesome knee pedal attached to the desk and I can sew by just pressing my knee against the desk leg. I want to start gathering material to sew myself and my daughter's all dresses especially some winter dresses and coats. First we will practice on summer dresses, tops and skirts before moving to winter clothing. (Having a winter party for my husband's 50th birthday and so we are all dressing up in matching gowns on new years eve) the goal is sew up different things now so my daughters and I get better st sewing by the time we are ready to make our "ball gowns". I'm wondering what is the best fabrics for beginner dress makers? How much fabric is a typical dress? Should I get a bunch of fabric then figure out what I'm making?

Cotton is very easy to sew. And it can take a lot of fabric. It just depends on the dress

Wonderful video and dress. Loved every minute. Given your recommendation to look at 'The Edwardian Modiste', I will soon be going to the Reference Library in Toronto where the book resides to have a good look at it as we cannot borrow any books from this Library. I have been able to look at the Table of Contents online, however, and was very intrigued by the 'Seamless Corset Cover' on Page 67. Hmm. Seamless. Would you consider having a go at it? Love your work and just bought a Singer Treadle Machine # 27, completely inspired by you. I have disconnected the motor and the new leather belt will arrive tomorrow. So thank you on all accounts. Know your words are heard more then you know.😊

I am so happy to have been such a source of inspiration for you! Yes, the seamless corset cover has sparked my attention! I am excited to hear about your treadle machine. I hope it runs beautifully for you and that the quite foot powered ways of the treadle will be calming and relaxing to you.

That beige lace is not crochet; it's the machine version of bobbin lace.
