Friend: What's your jam? Me: Being called a peasant by a guy I don't know personally and then be treated with a sewing video and inside about mennonite fashion. What's yours? Friend: ...raspberry?
Zippered cuffs! Brilliant! I wish i'd have thought of that when I made my eldest daughter's dress. Beautiful. Love you, and love that dress. It was fabulous to see the pictures of the dress in action! Bravo!
Please keep naming your machines ( please name your best fabric shears “Edward”!). After Edward scissor hands and for your love of Edwardian period and your channel. Keep the ASMR ! Please keep calling us peasants!
Lovely! And your grandparents look so happy in each photo. A larger/longer facing in a bodice with a centre back opening helps provide a little extra support, just in case that opening has any thoughts about sagging or wrinkling.
Love this!!! I never was able to actually look at grandma's dress before so this makes my heart happy! Especially knowing that I can always look at it now and in the future! Thank you!
This is so precious! I wish I could have seen my grandma's wedding dress to examine it. Your grandma's dress was lovely, thank you fo showing it to us :)
Gorgeous! So interesting to see your grandmother’s obviously cherished wedding dress! My grandmother made my mom’s wedding dress when she and my dad married in 1959. She still has it, so I think I’ll ask her if I can have a look at it. My mom was only 17 when she and my dad married, and are still going strong now after 61 years!
The dress is gorgeous and the photos of your grand parents being so in love and carefree even in the sinking row boat were adorable! Thank you for sharing them with us.
What beautiful dress! Who says a wedding dress needs to have extra trimmings and sparkly bits on it? She chose well with the lace and silk taffeta. Has anyone else in your family worn it again for their weddings?
Please please yes more videos like this. That was absolutely stunning!!! The dress and Each photo is a treasure. You are right the color was a delightful addition to the photo for many reasons ...one of which ...the pretty pastel colors are a breath of fresh air...during this cov-19 time those colors just calmed my Spirit. Thank you. This video...You made a treasure for each of us to watch and .... you recorded your family history for generations to come. Your calm distinct voice. Your calm ... precise manner of showing each plete and dart ...extra The delightful background music The ppeeerrfect narration! The seamless editing. 5 stars!!!! Could you tell us about your grandfather's outfit next? Share how it was made? It is very smart looking! By the way ...Do u know who her brides maids are... who the groomsmen are??? Hope you share that and invite their children and grandchildren to join your channel because you just recorded a moment in history that each of them will treasure. :) :) :) The story of the 13 year old playing dress up...and cutting it. I bet there r tons of stories like that... sorry that happened. Praise God for forgiveness when we do things like that. I hear many actually have their wedding dresses cut on purpose... and have them made into Baby dedication dresses these days... Have you heard ... one of the "things" to do in this generation is to "trash" the dress? For example...some brides play in the ocean w their spouse IN their wedding dress...after an Ocean front wedding. I guess IF we HAND stitched our dress we would not even consider such an outlandish idea. Evev IF we could get 1,000 likes on our Instagram page for the photos of trashing the dress. We would think of the time and love that went into each stitch of the gown and treasure it ... Treasure it...as your grandmother did...and as you are doing. Blessings. Ephesians 3:22-23 to you.
I can't imagine people deliberately destroying their wedding gown! Not ever having had one, we were pretty poor at the time, & were initially married by our local Justice, I suppose I'm more in awe of the occasion than some. My paternal grandparents celebrated more than 75 yrs together. Times of bliss & times of sorrow, they met together. I hope to make our 50th & that's only 6.5 yrs away. I doubt my health will take me to my late 80s for a 75th, but it's good to dream!
Great job! I got to see my mom’s sweet little Mennonite cape dress wedding dress, it was very similar to this, same era. It had miles of covered buttons, it must have taken ages to get into and out of that dress. I can totally imagine taking a scissors to the skirt - hilarious! So sweet of you to restore it for her. Congratulations on your new apartment! And the sleeve zippers are brilliant! 💕
Thank you for showing us this! What a treat from the past. It's clear where (at least some of) your sewing talent comes from. I sense of eye for detail that you mention she had too. I look forward to seeing more videos from you! If I may suggest something, you have a lovely soft voice but I struggle hearing it. It might be my hearing, it might be your equipment or a balance thing between music and voice. If you don't get this feedback from others then it's obviously just me ;) If others comment on it could be something to play around with a little more.
Rick, this music is too loud dear, it's hard for me to hear you and I'd love to hear more of these stories. Let's face it, i come here for the stories, sewing part is an added bonus ;) Joking, more sewing please but really i barely can hear you over this music in the background :(
Thank you once again for informative video.I really appreciate from a distance about the construction of the Cape and the dress.I have had a long interest in the dresses of the Mennonite and Armish .The creativity of women and fabric at any given time is always amazing.Look forward to your next video.
I'm from Lancaster County - I happen to have my grandfather's hat with his initials in it - JGH- His last name was Hollinger - he went English before he got married
I love you and your work and look forward to your videos. Could you increase the audio levels? You are so sweet in your narration but it,s hard to hear you.
Hi, I loved this video. I am Conservative Mennonite. I go to a church in Lancaster County. Am I right to say that since your grandmother got married in white she was not from a team church or horse and buggy?? I dont believe the church you mentioned is Groffdale Conferece (buggy) now, but not sure what it could have been. The buggy Mennonites get married in gray material, not white. Also, it is interesting that her Cape had 4 darts in the front and back. Ours only has 2 darts in the front. None I the back. But, you are right 99% of all patterns are made for the person. It has only been in the last 5 or so years that someone has come out with a few Conservative Cape dress patterns. But they are not removable 2 piece cape dress patterns.they are for the churches that wear the dress with the attached cape dress. But still most people get their patterns made for themselves specifically. I look forward to your coco vid video. Thanks.
My parents were both born into old colony mennonite families. In old colony you wouldnt wear a white dress. Most common are blue, purple or red. And not light colours either they'd be pretty dark
Gorgeous! The dress being cut up for playtime is hilarious and terrifying at the same time! How sweet of your grandma and you to take the time to restore it, I'd probably be so devastated... Are you still involved in the Mennonite church? Do you have some beautiful quilts you can share with us?
Friend: What's your jam?
Me: Being called a peasant by a guy I don't know personally and then be treated with a sewing video and inside about mennonite fashion. What's yours?
Friend: ...raspberry?
Those shoulders being different measurements is CRAZY! To be that detailed and knowledgable about your own measurements... oooff.
I WANT ALL THE GRANDMA CONTENT! Also, when you said your cousin CUT THE DRESS 😳😩😭🤯
Zippered cuffs! Brilliant! I wish i'd have thought of that when I made my eldest daughter's dress. Beautiful. Love you, and love that dress. It was fabulous to see the pictures of the dress in action! Bravo!
Beautiful, but can be tricky to insert because of the narrow sleeve circumference.
I don't know anything about dresses, I just like listening to him take me on a fantastic journey into the past with his smiling voice! Good video 😊
The facings in the back of the cape is to prevent bagging or puckering around the slit opening.. Beautiful gown.
Please keep naming your machines ( please name your best fabric shears “Edward”!). After Edward scissor hands and for your love of Edwardian period and your channel. Keep the ASMR ! Please keep calling us peasants!
Your grandmother is beautiful 💜
Wow, your grandmother was & still is a gorgeous lady!
Well, I see where you get your good looks and talent from!! I can’t believe how much you look like your grandma!
Lovely! And your grandparents look so happy in each photo.
A larger/longer facing in a bodice with a centre back opening helps provide a little extra support, just in case that opening has any thoughts about sagging or wrinkling.
Beautiful dress! Thank you for showing us and telling it’s story.
A beautiful family! The dress is precious! Thank you for sharing!
Wow! I hope you plan on making a replica. I would love to see you apply your ability to it.
That just might be in the works as we speak 😉 though it will take a very long time

No, it hasn’t been worn since. Each of her daughters made their own wedding gowns. It’s extremely fragile now
Please please yes more videos like this.

Super Gorgeous Dress! My heart sank when I heard your cousin cut the dress 😱 I’m so glad your grandma was able to repair it.
Your grandma was too pure!
I love all the photos! Lovely! And a nice analysis of the wedding adventure.
Lovely dress! Your Grandmother did a beautiful job. Very nice to see it preserved.
She’s an expert seamstress!

She was from Lancaster Conference. At that point her church would have allowed vehicles and white wedding dresses

I am still involved with the Mennonite Church and I do have some quilt things I could show.
Beauteous!
Could you do an easy way to make a long skirt to replicate?
Can you tell us more about the men’s wear?
I’m afraid I can’t except that they wore straight cut suits which were required in that church
Where is this guy from?
I like your channel topic so far! Thanks to CoCoVid, I have discovered a nice channel once again :) Keep on rockin!
