Tire Upgrade / Upsize on the Jimny

  • Trying to get a real world feel of how the different sizes of tires look on the Jimny and the scope of clearing the fenders with a set of 31” - 275/65/R17 BFGoodrich KO2 tires.
    The Jimny has very well shaped impressive wheel arches which will happily accommodate the larger tire sizes with a lift kit to aid with the clearance
    * Stock Tire Size - 195/80/R15 (Bridgestone Dueler)
    * Option 1 with stock suspension - 215/75R15 (BFG KO2)
    * Option 2 with 50mm Lift Kit - 275/65/R17 (BFG KO2)

    You are the only positive youtuber on Jimny i'd seen so far. People complain about space frequently but i would always think that they might be wrong. If they are so happy with gypsy why complain this Mountain goat. They should be off buying Hitachi Excavators. You got a point with your enthusiasm. Love your channel.

    This video speaks volumes about your enthusiasm for automobiles. It also highlights your knowledge as you are already discussing tyre sizes, taking them to the dealership when no one has had the chance to even look at the vehicle in detail. And the intention of making that effort for your audience, just to share knowledge, certainly makes this channel stand out from the rest. Keep up the good work! 😊

      @@bokinlego I think he definitely would have, if he could have. At the time when this video was recorded, there was only one jimny being circulated in the showrooms throughout northern India . So I don’t think Suzuki could have allowed people to experiment with the one and only vehicle available then-keeping in mind it was for everyone to see.

    Going across the state of puniab it is normal to see jeeps, safaris, thars and gypsy with absurd size tyres. They might look odd but i guess they are keeping the custom and mod seen alive in the country. Ive no doubts that we will be seeing lots of jimny with huge size tyres including big rims and low profiles, keeping in mind what is being done with Thar. Exciting times for Indian automotive industry ahead.

    Interesting topic however there are several flaws in what you’re suggesting for tire upgrade options for this vehicle.
    Nothing wrong with 215/75R15 BFG as it is well within the acceptable tolerance (3%) of the weight/rolling diameter of that of the stock tire.
    Your suggestion of fitting 275/65R17 on Jimny is simply ludicrous.
    The rolling diameter of the stock tire (195/80R15) is 27.3” and the weight would be approx. (27 to 31lbs). The rolling diameter of the tire (275/65R17) that you’re suggesting is 31.1” which is 13.9% higher than that of the stock tire and this is just the first problem. The weight in this case is 50 lbs and that means 80 lbs of extra unsprung weight (on all four wheels). Besides this 275/65R17 BFG is an LT tire which means it has a load rating of “E” which is used for light trucks that need extra strengthening of the sidewalls to carry weight. “E” rated tires are normally not recommended for passenger vehicles. And all of this means very rough/bouncy ride quality & high fuel consumption.
    Even if you go for negative offset wheels and a 2" lift, the largest tires you can fit without trimming are 235/75R15 as there's not enough space in the wheel well.
    The increased rolling diameter will not only bugger up the steering and suspension geometry but will also result in increased wear and tear of knuckles/tie rod ends/ball joints and wheel bearings. Jimny comes with a measly motor that puts approx. 75KW and has a payload of just 340Kgs. By putting these giant tires you have now reduced the payload to 300Kgs which means 4 average-sized adults & no luggage. This puny engine even with stock tires will struggle with 4 adults on board; with these tires, it will become even more sluggish.
    Besides, what exactly are we trying to achieve here by suggesting this humongous tire on this tiny vehicle. The biggest tire that is sensible for this vehicle will be 215/75R15 as you have already suggested however people are free to do what they want with their vehicles. I felt it is important to put out this information so that customers make an informed choice.

      Still waiting for the official price announcement for the ironman lift kit , but should be close to 1.5-1.6ish
      And the price for 31” bfg is coming out to be close to 26-28k/tire , these cost 237$ is the US , so that’s almost 20k per tire
      Expect these to be around the 26-28k mark here for sure

      These are loads of options, but I suggest waiting for the official launch and the vehicle to get tested in real life scenarios once
