Fallout 4 Next Gen Update Comparison

- The Fallout 4 Next Gen update is here. We’ve gone hands on with the game on Xbox Series X, with footage of before the patch on the left and after the patch on the right. While the game has received a resolution increase, and seemingly somewhat improved colors and lighting, what is most noticeable is the framerate increase, even on the quality mode displayed here. You can even set the game to performance mode for increased frames as well. Here are several different comparisons, including slowed down footage, in order to best display the differences.
#gaming #Fallout4 #gamespot Игры
As highlighted by Digital Foundry, it appears the game's quality-mode--at least on Xbox--is not functioning correctly. The resolution is not increased and the frame rate remains at 60fps, neither of which is meant to be the case in quality mode. As such the footage you are seeing is actually running in performance mode.
Bethesda. Bethesda never changes.
I mean the game doesn't look bad, specially for coming out in 2015. But are there going to be actual improvements with quality mode when it does work properly?
force vsync off thru drivers, that will unlock FPS and then cap it also in drivers or in msi afterburner, this update is a joke
Ive never seen a company that makes such great games, but is unbelievably incompentant at the same time.
Yet you all couldn't even tell the difference because they are literally the exact same. So you posted the video anyway lol

@@nickxcore74 "running smoother" is exactly what almost every single next gen patch has ever been. there are less games than you have fingers that have actually fully overhauled the graphics with a next gen update, most of them are maybe minor lighting tweaks and framerate increases.
Looks the same. They should have remastered Fallout 3 or New Vages.
ey a full remaster of those would be great! don't really see a difference in this "next gen " update either TBH. the difference is running a emb on pc I guess lol
@@kooltube100well it seems it runs on series s without constant crashing which is nice.

i think there’s rumors about a fallout 3 remaster alr
So, "Next Gen" officially means 60 fps on a console, with a "quality mode" that makes it.. run like it used to? While still looking pretty much the same? 🤔
Turns out if you put it to 1440p then quality mode becomes 60fps while keeping ultra settings

There are no graphical changes. The quality mode is currently broken.
classic Bethesda update. More stuff break than what gets changed.
I was excited to pick up fallout 4 again, this time with better graphics. But nope, not playing it again. Maybe I'll pick up hellblade 2 lol
This update benefits consoles only. The PC community has fixed and gone far beyond already.
That's not true. I'm seeing a lot of reports that the game is much smoother on areas that the FPS would drop a lot.
@@macdealer7936 The Boston fix mod on PC has been done a long time ago.

So, it looks exactly the same? At least it's a native app now, with proper 60 fps implementation. I've read crashes on Boston are gone. Might try it out again on my Series S.
To be fair the Boston crashes were all they needed to fix. Everything else is just gonna get modded lol
@craigkingdon4424 the resolution boost for Series S is very welcome. It ran the 900p One version. Seems (from reports), it's 1440p. It's a massive boost. For other consoles and PC, I agree. Boston was such a big bs, very disappointing.

Im on pc but i dont understand the quality and performance mode for the series x and s when both run 60fps on both modes? It makes no sense
Besides the 60 fps mode on PS5 is there any diference in graphics preset?? i mean are the graphics preset on Ultra now?Shadows, textures, lighting, details, more vegetation, etc etc? When Skyrim got PS4 update there was a massive diference compared to PS3 version.
Does this counted as 16 times of details update?
For everyone who didn't know, if you switch your output to 1440p then it runs at 60fps in quality mode, had to look it up myself, apparently its in the patch notes
I'm glad you put labels on them, I couldn't tell the difference (apart from the slowed down 50% speed clips).
This is definitely a 16 times the detail moment
I've had issues with my green hud and pipboy. The characters that move on the quest screen are barely visible now. It's like the new shade of green is broken.
still having issues with lines overlapping on PC. might just be me but idk how to fix that
If you have two monitors try turn off the secondary monitor before lunching the game, also check HDR if it's turned on maybe there's a issue with it. Other than that I don't know.
the only change I managed to notice was the shadow play in the fight with the claw, and maybe fluidity of FPS
Can I migrate to stuff from previous gen to next gen like in gta?
So quality mode is just preformance mode off right?
What about the performance mode?
Haven’t played it yet but wanna see if it’s any different from my 60fps 4k mod i had
quality mode runs at 60 or 30 fps?
So, is performance mode off = quality mode on??? I see ability to turn performance on/off but no quality mode on/off???
No one knows lol. I tried switching both and they look exactly the same with 60fps
next gen or sharpen dial turned up one notch?
The icon for this video is just too funny.
Unfortunately I have to play on PS5 I incorrectly installed a bunch of mods on my computer didn’t know what I was doing. Uninstalled fallout reinstalled still doesn’t work right :(
There is a bug on the Xbox Series X|S so when you play it the game is stuck on performance mode
It looks almost the same.. is there any interactions with dualsense controller at least?
So we have previous gen and next gen. What happened to current gen? And since next gen has replaced current gen, what do we call the PS6 and Xbox 5 when the time comes to talk about them?
My favorite part about this update is the plasma weapons
Their velocity at this new 60fps is super cool to watch
In all my playthroughs of Fallout 4 through the years I never ran into the Preston Garvey imposter. Low and behold after the update and starting a new game I finally met him after traveling through the Commonwealth for a time.
corporate needs you to find the difference between this picture and this picture
Pam: They're the same picture
I don't see it. What changed?
They added new bugs
Now i want to know, has there been a improvement in load times?
On ps5 almost non existent
How's downtown Boston?
This broke almost all my mods in FO4 that my Skyrim DLL plugin ain’t working and it needs a new update
Where u see upgrade?
Weird that. Apparently the quality mode is bugged on the Series X
Todd Howard never lets gamers down. Never give them up.
I can't see nothing different 😅
They might as well have called it a Dogmeat patch because legitimately that was the only graphical texture improvement I could see from this video comparison.
Character models look crispier and perform better and textures are better all the way around. are ya'll blind or something?
Barely
The textures are exactly the same, if you are seeing a difference it's because of the game resolution increase. I was hoping this would include a High-Res texture pack like PC has, but no luck.
I play it heavily modded on pc through nexus/vortex. Nothing has changed for me at all, running as smooth as it always has. Maybe it only affected the steam workshop mods?
Sir, I was under the impression there would be a comparison video here showing before-and-after differences.
I've seem a slight sharpness and color clarity bump in ps5...
The only thing that looks different is "Next Gen" isn't slowed as much as we can't see the details, or it's zoomed in when the previous gen isn't.
Is there a difference? I cant see it.
Previous without fps boos and auto hdr?
Pretty disappointed here, they could’ve done more with all the time they’ve had. I barely notice a frame rate difference and the lighting difference is minimal. Anyone know if they fixed the PS5 DLC crashing issues?
It just works right?
I'm so glad they broke f4se for this. Looks like it has nearly 16x the graphics
The music they pick... Almost makes it look like its mocking the lack of visual differences beside just FPS increase. Kinda give a funny montage vibe with Benny Hill theme.
Not sure how you guys are playing but mine will not recognize nuka world at all after the update. Completely broken.
Insert "they are the same picture" meme
Is it just me or at 1:40 where they compare the run, why does the new gen update look like he is running slower?? Thats not gonna be fun trying to adventure and its talking much longer to get places. Correct me if im wrong!
Didn't expect much considering the update was only 9 gigs
For xbox it was 23gigs
"I can't imagine how hard that was, let me mark this settlement on your map"
I agree marketing this as a "next gen" update was not the best wording, since you might expect that to include for example improved global illumination, higher resolution textures, higher quality LODs, dynamic lighting improvements, etc. None of which seem to be present here. It looks like they decreased the amount of distant LODs to give the frame rate a boost. Which is fine and good, but it would've been nice if they marketed it as a "performance update" or "stability update" or simply an "update" because the term next-gen has you thinking it'll be like Skyrim Special Edition was in terms of graphical improvements, which it isn't
Fallout 4...Fallout 4 never changes
Surprised no one had done the comparison with the PC version.
corporate needs you find the difference between these "upgrades".
Am i blind or theres zero difference between two?
i cant notice any
Playing the game it’s impossible to see the difference between quality and performance. Quality feels below 60fps but bizarrely puts my TV in its 120 fps mode. While performance mode feels smoother but my TV input reverts back to 60fps.
Hopefully DF does an analysis because it’s very odd.
So happy to play this in performance mode now! looks great and and no more terrible imput lag that we had on the 30fps locked ps4 version
Wish i didn't have to update, new creation club weapons are missing textures or are invisible, Halloween quest doesn't start, enclave works well, just wish there were enclave workshop options (or their missing aswell). Lastly disables storage space for mods....
Fallout 4 Next Gen Update reminded me of folktale The Emperor's New Clothes"...
I hope because of the attention from the show they keep or release a few more updates but I doubt it. This is a game that when I used to play it before the update would get nervous if it didn't crash within an hour. 😅 Seems to be more stable so far since the update but scared to play the Skyrim mission from the creation club mod mission. That particular mission always crashed a few times for me, will give it a try to see if it crashes.
I started playing the game again right before the update and i can notice i dont care too much about mods maybe ill do another playthrough with mods but definitely graphics are different on my pc and it runs great for me no longer crashing at the start screen now before the update it took me like 2-3 tries of loading the game up for it to work and I only paid $10 for the GOTY edition so i literally cant complain
All this did was make my companions, especially dogmeat, unable to follow commands. They all give me the "i can't go there or do that" when i command to stand near me, in an open field, with no obstacles or enemies.
Just what i thought, negligible differences, so we had fallout london delayed for nothing essentially fs
are you sure its updated?
If they spent so long working on this they might as well should have made DLCs work for VR
A lot of people seem to be getting next gen update mixed with graphics overhaul.
¿why did i knew since this upgrade was announced ..that difference was gonna be like this
i mean ..so few
The circus music is very apt.
The best part is that it looks the absolute same. Quality increases look no different when the quality improvement is minuscule from the original anyway. Even 1080 looks very similar to 4k. I've seen clips of 720/1080 and 4k where you couldn't tell which was which because the difference is so tiny.
The fact that they use an Xbox instead of a PS5 was definitely a poor choice to highlight the differences.
Now we need to wait for the Special Edition and then Anniversay Edition
Quality mode does not work on Series X. You are actually comparing performance mode to previous gen.
Quality mode is supposed to be 30fps with ultra settings..
HDR is not working either.
On PS5 both HDR and quality mode does work. You should have compared them
I seen some graphical improvements here & there in the video & a little small fps smoothness in certain parts of the video but this definitely isn't a next Gen thing. This should have just been a regular improvement update patch.
“we’ve got a slowdown mode” i’ll wait for the digital foundry video 😂
It's an appreciable improvement to my eye's. I played fallout 4 maybe 1-2 years ago... the FPS and "haze" (lack of clarity) was what deterred me. Now, I enjoy the game and notice a improvement. It hasn't' "changed" the game, agreed, it just took it from foggy/out of focus to in-focus and the 60fps is now hard for me to live without. And yes, I'm a console fan.
What is different??
