The DCS community is extremely lucky to have Casmo.
There can't be enough warheads on those foreheads!
Agree
Yep
What started as a little shenanigans with friends has turned into the next DCS aircraft I'm taking the time to learn, and a lot of it is because of your videos. They're clear, concise, and easy to understand (especially for a fixed-wing guy like me.) Keep up the awesome work!
Thank you kindly
I just finished watching your TSD tutorial from yesterday and thought RUclips was recommending it to me again for a second lol. Great upload timing as always and a huge thanks for the quality tutorials!
Thanks for this video! Definitely going to play with the CAQ before I go to bed! O_-
Thank You"George" for all your Great/Helpful Videos and Tutorials[**And SME Work**] for This Amazing Module...My Apache Launch Day went much more smoothly because I had an idea what to expect.
You can also enter L/L in the format "N123456E0123456", all as one string for 12°34.56' N 012°34.56' E instead of MGRS
You can also direct to a waypoint in the route. Go to RTE, DIR, then select the desired waypoint in the route waypoint list.
Outside of combat when would you use Nose-Tail Trim and when Aerodinamic Trim?
Nose-tail when you don't wanna smack your tail on something, like flying in contour or NoE. Wouldn't wanna doink the tail on a tree or something.
Thanks for this, you're pretty good ant explaining things and I appreciate that! You're my go to guy for helicopters for sure!
Thank you for that.
I'm trying to sleep dude. Common man! 😜 (Probably my fault for opening RUclips. 😜)
cool video couldnt remenber how to get wp on IHASS to show
Thanks again Casmo, you've been a massive help for me in learning the Apache systems and understanding the concepts of flying helos in general.
I'm new to DCS and I seriously can't wait to watch all of your videos about the AH-64D :)
Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much you badass.
thanks a lot, casmo. i know lat/long is not much used nowadays and everybody goes grid, but is there a option to put waypoints manually into the TSD with lat/long ?
Yes but then you are gross.
You just type DDMMddNDDDMMddE with D=Degrees, M=Minutes, d= decimal minutes, N=North/South, E=East/West
For example :
To insert S 35°20.10' W 15°15.75'
You type 352010S0151575W and hit enter
If my explanation is not clear, refer to the manual (It's worse in there)
@@CasmoTV I'd prefer being gross over trying and failing to understand something that's like Chinese to me. Haven't cracked the UTM enigma yet, it's just a random chain of alphanumerics to me.
This trim situation you talked about at 9:45. I’ve been thinking hard about it before. Isn’t it aerodynamically impossible? I can’t make sense of it.. really puzzling.
I love playing with my caq
@6:24 you can reverse them on the RTM page by clicking REVERSE ROUTE on L5.
Quick question. In real life, is the cpg like a WSO, with separate training or are pilots and cpgs qualified to fly in both slots? Thanks
Nope. Everyone is the same. We swap seats all the time.
I guess I'll be playing with the CAQ all day, boss's orders.......thanks for these vids man, can't say it enough!
Glad they help.
@0:59 ON the left hand side of the MFD, under ADD, what is HZ, CM and TG for? What I am trying to do is set waypoints, hover points AND target points. When I look at points on the COORD page, I don't want them to ALL show up as WP. I want a couple as HP and a couple as TP. Hope my question makes sense.
Hi CasmoTV, I like your video tutorials so much. I have a question for you: why do you work the distance in KM instead of NM? Greetings.
Most of the military works in KM.
Casmo, what do you have the MPD buttons mapped to (e.g. keyboard, HOTAS, TM cougar,...)? Thank you.
Dude thank you so much! Myself and the GR community thank you!
Fantastic content and jeez it's so challenging compared to fixed wing. I'll look for the play list that was mentioned above and start with baby steps.
If youtube had an information density metric...
Great stuff!
love the intro
Thanks Casmo, you're a great instructor!
wait how does he change the symbology the transition on the IHADSS??
What you said about the ME not giving the possibility of setting up alternative routes is a major problem with modern aircrafts in DCS, i.e. datacards !
Now I don't know if there is such thing in the Apache to pre-build your mission but it is a very much needed in the Viper and the Hornet.
Those modules won't step up until ED does something about this.
It’s been discussed.
What’s the label in the controls for the cursor that your moving around in the map??
Is there a way to fly direct to a target point? I have figured out how to add them into the TSD but no idea how to fly "directly" to them.
Could you please explain how you move the cursor on the map, What keys do i have to map. thank you
Hey Casmo,
So in the Pave Low we could cycle steering through the flight planned waypoints with and up or down arrow type key function. Can you do that in the Apache? We would often get close to a waypoint but not hit capture criteria so we would cycle to the next one manually.
No WP increment in the pache. Least not that I remember. We would just direct to the WP you wanted and it joins the route from there
Thanks for this vid just got this in the sale an you made it make sense
oh I'm definitely going to play with my cack 😏😏
11:38 Nav lights on in combat what a newb :P
Is there a way to program the monocle to one side of the VR headset or does it have to project to both?
If you miss hitting a waypoint (such as flying too low or similar) - is there a button to quickly move forward and backwards between the waypoints like there is in the F-16?
No
1:12 Me: UTM _or_ Lat/Long?
Apache KU: Yes!
Again me: So does it understand _actual_ coordinates as well? I can't get my head around that cLaSsIfIeD $#!t.
Speaking of cLaSsIfIeD $#!t: I recently tried the instant flight missions and in the Runway Takeoff one the guy tells me about some waypoints with practice targets that are listed on the kneeboard. I opened it up and understood absolutely nothing of what was presented to me except for the last two lines were meant to be about the targets and I was totally unable to make any correlations to what was visible on the TSD at all. Would you care explaining that stuff or would it be crossing red lines already?
Stupid question time-Where is the ENTER Button when not using the keyboard or are you hitting enter on the keyboard when you move the cursor?.
Cursor enter on your collective.
Is possible entering coordinates?
Exactly what I needed today. Thanks for the great content and lessons!
Thank you for your service
Hey Casmo, are you gonna be doing a vid on weather flights particularly with adverse weather? I'm interested in rain and snow and how it effects the aircraft.
I take a lot of time to play with the CAQ
Thank you for vibe videos Cosmo. I have a quick question. How do you switch from KM from NM in the TSD?
Thank you for your help.
Big thanks for this, figured some stuff out from the manual but it helps to see it presented in a simple way like this.
Sidenote, is there any chance you would post a link to your trackir profile somewhere? It looks a lot more stable for HMD aiming than I can manage to get.
Cosmos. Thanks so much for putting these together.
Could you make an Apache tutorial playlist on your channel, please?
Much easier to track and revisit the videos.
Sure
@@CasmoTV thanks! Great content.
Hi, Casmo. Could you share how to hovering correctly in Apache? Thanks
Appreciate these videos. Goes a long way to overcoming the bizarre UI Boeing has created. Wonder if they've ever consulted actual users to make these systems more intuitive.
6:24. Why pilots hate software engineers, lol.
Everyone hates (software) engineers that never have been users themselves. Common practice everywhere.
Thank you for this sir. Helps alot and I learned some stuff that I didn't pickup by playing around with it.
Hi Casmo !
I encounter a severe INS drift after about 30min of flight.
Anyway to recalibrate the INU ?
Right now my JTAC targets are completely off and the Limas cannot work at all :-/
Your INS should be blended mode with the GPS
@@CasmoTV
Damn I cannot understand what is happening then ...
Nose to tail trim?
Are you sure that you're not just crabbing into the wind?
A wind from the left would require your nose to come a few degrees left in order to maintain a ground track leading direct to the way point.
Wind correction angle (WCA) is the term.
Maybe it's just a simism.
But real helicopters and airplanes are subject to this phenomenon and have to adjust their WCA in order to maintain the desired ground track.
Fly aircraft in trim, and adjust cyclic and roll as necessary to roll out on the proper ground track to your waypoint.
You can test if this is a bug or not by flying directly into the wind or away from the wind; your ground track will match your heading.
Fly any angle away from the wind and if it's coming from your left your ground track will show right of heading and if the wind is from the right your ground track will show left of heading.
The greatest deflection will be when the wind is directly abeam or cross wind. (90deg to your heading)
It may be a bug! Or it might be a no shit Apache characteristic. This guy is an ex pilot so I suspect he knows what he's talking about.
But on this video that looked like a crab angle to me. That is to say, the wind was blowing and he was correcting for wind, or "crabbing" into the wind, in order to fly a specific ground track.
Yeah I’m pretty sure.
@@CasmoTV sure that it's an Apache-ism?
Enjoy your videos. I really wana get the Apache mod. Especially after watching all this RUclips content on it.
Thanks for sharing!
@4:38 You mention multiple ways to go direct to a waypoint- As long as it's along your route, the easiest way I found was to just select route, direct and then simply select the waypoint from the route list 😉
@CasmoTV is nose-to-tail trim more efficient or faster than aerodynamic trim?
No. It’s about tail control and obstacles.
You mention several times 'we just hit enter' is this the key 'Cursor Enter Depress' or something else? Thanks. Finding your vids very helpful on this confusing module.
Yes you have it correct
@@CasmoTV OK thanks there are so many similarly named buttons I wanted to be sure
after you've selected a direct mode, can you switch back to automatic like it is by default? and if so how would you do that?
Would you leave the navigation lights and stuff on in a combat zone?
No
These videos have been a real treat for all us armchair pilots lol. Thanks a lot for taking the time Casmo. Hope to eventually get proficient enough one day to run into and fly along with you, GS and Wags! Cheers buddy.
If i want to enter a North East coordinate instead of a grit, do i enter that in the place where the grit coord. was in your video or somewhere else? Thx
Thanks Casmo, was helpful, enjoyed.
👍👍👍 Great!
Good stuff!
Question: Can you re-join/join a route after WP1 and it would still auto cycle the next WP ? (I.e you left the route for a POI, got diverted or needed to skip a WP etc..)
Or would you then have to manually select each WP from the route (Direct too) to get the marker in the IHADDS ?
Thanks Casmo 👍
It’ll rejoin.
@@CasmoTV thanks 🍻
I’m just going to go ahead and not ever do anything with waypoints and the NSD. I couldn’t keep up past the first minute
*TSD
I’ll do a more detailed one. I just wanted to get people going with the release.
@@CasmoTV don’t slow the class down for me!

how do you find the transition and hover modes in settings? i cant figure it out
Symbology select switch on your cyclic
@@CasmoTV thank you kind sir
Caq.
Good stuff Casmo! Can free text be entered in the mission editor?
Thank you! That was very helpful.
when i miss a waypoint in the route, or it doesnt change to the next one one line automaticly... how do i change my active WP to the next one?
RTE -> DIR -> select your next waypoint from the list on the right side
very good run through - helped me a lot!
can you store or mark point using the helmet?
Dumb question why is it in KM?
Cause that’s how soldiers do distance.
How do you do a WP to a lat/long that’s not a military map reference? We don’t get the TKM7174711 grid refs in MP and I’ve tried adding the Northings and Eastings in different formats but it doesn’t accept them. Any knowledge you can share on that for us?
It is all explained in detail in this video: ruclips.net/video/YwuK2j2q4EY/видео.html
@@Mightymoose02 thank you so much for this!! I totally forgot that the ingame map can be changed to military coords and it also zcovered the format for lat/long. You legend. Appreciate it so much!
Hey Casmo a question. how do i slave the curser to that HMD and make it respont to Enter button. Also, Tried to chose WP2 from the coord page and it wouldn't stick..
You can’t slave the cursor to your HMD… unless I’m misunderstanding your question.
@@CasmoTV We cant find a way to choose a WP. Say i fly to WP 1. Once i get there it won't change to WP2! Automatically!. Also, we couldn't find a way to choose a WP from the list and make it stick. I wish you could help us. We are a group of Israeli players.
Anyone know how to drop-kick/increment a waypoint during route? Vid said to go back to W01 to restart the router, but what if we missed a fly over and didn't get the auto increment. Are with stuck in direct to mode for the rest of the flight?
Direct to where you want and pick up the route
Thanks! That did it, I had assumed it wouldn't resume after the Dir for no actual reason.
Is there any way to drop a new point where one of the helmet sights is looking?
Not really in this version. You can in the front seat but I’ll talk about that later.
I wonder if the apache use any kind of TACAN or other source to fly back to home?
No it doesn’t.
@@CasmoTV what do you use?
@2:55 by "Enter" do you mean cursor depress?
Affirm.
THANK YOU, Sir!
So you have to set a point in your route as your homeplate to get automatically updating waypoints?
You will default to the route and point 1.
@@CasmoTV Wait let me see if I got this right. To set up automatically updating waypoints I go into the DIR sub menu and select the first waypoint in the route?
Follow up, can you select a point near the middle of the route?
Thanks for the help Casmo.
Thanks Casmo, this totally helps. I'm really enjoying the module overall. She maneuvers like a dream, excellent tail authority.
Casmo,
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use the TADS/Nightvision in the IHADSS for the pilot seat. Can you please give instruction on this? I have the keys bound but when I hit them nothing happens.
There’s a switch on the left side ctrl panel, switch that to middle pos
gwa gwa
Is the TSD the same in the KW?
Not really.
lol why are you bringing up, about not talking about technical data, aircraft survivability. I know you're a badass real pilot and all, but no one is asking you these questions lollol
Oh really? You think that because you haven’t seen it I haven’t had it happen ALL THE TIME? Interesting…
Mate, this is one of your most useful tutorials. Thank you.
