Unpopular opinion but my favourite is Born and Raised, I just love that album.
Born and Raised is incredibly underrated.
Born and Raised is in my opinion most vulnerable Mayer album
My love for John Mayer grew on Continuum, but after hearing Born and Raised my life was not the same
I love that album. Has a lot of amazing songs.
Fantasic album fo sho
Room for squares is so impressive to me. Everything sounds so simple yet beautiful, but there’s so much going on. It’s very digestible. My personal favorite on the album is St patrick’s day
That song is so underrated …
St Patricks is not quite simple, there’s alot of chords going on😂
@@Enchmac it sounds simple though, that's why it's so interesting to listen to
@@toiletbowl04 true
Same bro. St. Patrick's Day sounds like magic to me. Truly underrated John Mayer song
Where The Light Is made me want to pick up the guitar. Still my favorite album to this day.
100%
Easy
I don’t trust myself Live at the Nokia Theatre really opened the door to John Mayer for me, and then I quickly fell in love with everything that had to do with his Tone and Music, hoping he puts out some new music soon!!!! Thumbs up for another live album!!
I was a kid when Battle Studies came out, Heartbreak Warfare and Half of my Heart were two songs that came on the radio every single day when I was in school or in the car for example. Now that I'm in my twenties this is the album I listen to if I want to deal with my emotions regarding love. It helps when you get or have feelings for someone, it helps with a heartbreak. It is a master piece. So I guess I am one of the >10 %.
"inside wants out" is incredible
+1
My friend played cello on “Comfortable.”
room for squares is one of the best albums ever made imo. it's melodic beyond melodic, it's sappy beyond sappy but it never pushes too hard. it just has that bright eyed familiar glow which makes it so memorable and beautiful. easily my fav jm album, one of my fav albums. but screw your body is a wonderland i can barely tolerate that song
City love is no doubt one of my favorite Mayer songs. The Covered in Rain connection blew my mind🤯 gotta love little clever stuff like that… favorite album is either Continuum or Battle Studies
where the light is is my all time favorite, I know its a live show and not an "album" but the way he performed everything is just a masterpiece for me.
I think his best album is Heavier Things, with Born and Raised not far behind. Heavier Things is just so pure, some of the most poetic lyrics combined with soft and melodic kind of jazzy but still rock electric guitar.
I love heavier things too, it's the album I go back to the most for the feeling it gives me, the first 4 songs on that album are bangers
My fav Mayer albums are the two live ones, but they’re all good.
Where the light is is one of the most perfect music pieces I've ever seen.
"Your Body is a Wonderland" is John's "More than Words".
I love the "City Love" shoutout. Such a great song, and also one of my favorites from Room for Squares. Continuum is my favorite album-sorry for being basic, hahaha-but Room for Squares is naaaaaaaaaaaarrowly in 2nd!
City love is such an underrated masterpiece, weirdly behind and ahead of it's time combined. A love letter to blues, pop and that certain mood of an after-office evening, rain and music
Where The Light Is Live. The trio stuff on that album is amazing.
I don’t have a favorite Mayer album, they’re all so different, sometimes I really feel like some acoustic room for squares, sometimes some laidback born and raised, then I’m feeling some electric continuum and other times I fancy myself some feelgood grooves from the search for everything etc. The guy literally has no skips for me, the songs really grow on you.
Dude, it’s scary how we literally like the same Mayer’s tunes!!! Great job on the harmony and licks bro!!! 🎸🎸🎸
Love to see someone appreciating City Love as much as I do, the enthusiasm you had during the breakdown was also very refreshing haha
The best John Mayer album is by far The Search of Everything, it’s just a masterpiece.
Masterful album. Pop mixed with blues. Moving on an getting over, Roll it on home, You’re gonna live forever in me. Those songs are so different but all okay into his life
Where the light is, iconic performance in music history
My first and still well loved album is Room For Squares, however, Where The Light Is LIVE IN LA is the best version of all the songs performed, and just about all the best songs from R4S, Heavier Things and Continuem.
Born & Raised. This is the album that made me take John seriously as a musician and take a deep dive on his work. My brother had kept trying to convince me he's a blues guy while I was out literally touring in a blues band, and all I heard before was body is a wonderland, waiting on the world, all that weak sauce stuff. But years later when my music career slowed, I heard Queen Of California, bought the album, and became sold on JM. It was a perfect storm of circumstances and I'm thankful for it
Born & Raised is my personal favorite. I think what makes Mayer an interesting career to follow is how deep he digs into his influences and then makes them his own. He hangs around an idea for 2 or so albums and then onto the next thing. In a recent interview with during the set break for Dead & Co. He was talking about listening to a lot of Pink Floyd so I'm really interested to see if/how that manifests on his next record.
Great Indoors and Back to You were also rarely played now, not to mention City Love
The John Mayer Trio album is my favorite. Not really a solo album but easily my favorite.
Please break down Edge of Desire. A lot to discuss technically.
Mine was gonna be “the search for everything” just because every song on there is so different and both fun and pretty
Also the song that clung onto me was the “the great indoors” it’s just so groovy
City Love was the first JM song I listened to after buying my first guitar and that solo captivated me in so many cool ways that I can't even describe with words, just amazing
this. you. a black human that loves john mayer as much as i do is everything teenage me needed. thank you for sharing your passion!!!!!!
Dude I never caught the Covered in Rain part. That’s sick
The Search for Everything is one of my recent favorites
idk why I got the recommendation (from the telecaster video) and checked some other stuff. Hehe hearing this song is nostalgic even though for about almost 20 years of guitar playing I didn't try to learn the song. Subbed. Thanks for this.
Hey Mike, it’s so fascinating to see how you're energetic explaining the music that you love. The energy you radiate is contagious! Love from Bangladesh. 🇧🇩 Keep up!
The Lizzy and Jacob at the end 🎉🎉
This is like the perfect foil to my Covered In Rain Video! Amazing analysis!!
I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me, but I love Paradise Valley. It’s definitely in the top 3 for me. Dear Marie, Waiting On The Day and Badge and Gun are some of my favourite songs by him
Man, I really love your channel and your videos. You do a fantastic job! Keep it up! (I love Mayer too).
I grew up listening to Room For Squares - every song is just resonates with me to this day
“Much like you and me, not a superstar, yet” we’ll make it one day mike
City love at crossroads is what hooked me on John Mayer and I’ve never looked back
Heavier things. I know but I’m a singer and I loved him as a lyricist on that album.
Room for Squares is my favorite since it was my first of his, but I think Continuum is his best album.
Room for Squares for sure. City Love and St Patrick's day, yum! Simply as hahaha
The Covered in Rain part just blew my mind….
Battle Studies and Born and Raised are my favourite Mayer album. Heartbreak Warfare is still one of my favourite songs!
Any given Thursday is the thing that made me realize what he could really do. The live version of why Georgia on that album was always my favorite
I have a problem to choose anything favorite, but now im really into the born and raised album.
After listening all of his album. I love Heavier Things as my most favorite album of John.
Hi! Now you are one of my favorite channels!
I'd like to se you breaking down/ reacting some john live performances
I remember getting room for squares when it came out in high school and it fundamentally defined a period in my life. I still know every song on that album by heart
Oi, picking a favorite album of his is so difficult for me, because there are things about every single one of them that I wholeheartedly love. So many of his songs across his entire discography speak to me, and that’s not easy for any artist to do. Songs like Why Georgia and City Love are super relatable for me, as well as tracks like Clarity, In Repair, Something’s Missing, Stop This Train, Good Love Is On The Way, War Of My Life, Born and Raised, Dear Marie, Roll It On Home, Shot In The Dark, the list could go on for centuries. So I’m going to say all of them, because I really cannot choose.
oooh boy City Love. Hope we get a covered in rain video soon :)
Still waiting for a Man on the Side video eventually too, my favorite deep cut.
Definitely want to have a break down for the Crossroads City Love
My favorite Mayer album is potentially battle studies, but it’s between Continuum, Battle Studies, and Room for Squares
I could never answer your first question! They're all just too perfect
Where the light is hands down. He is even better live lol
I've always been partial to _Room for Squares_ for the songwriting (bonus: great guitar work) and even said it out loud at your question. Aside the standard picks, _3x5_ is a standout. Also _83_ and one of my favorites to perform acoustically, _My Stupid Mouth_
Good vid Mike, please keep 'em coming!
Continuum does have my favorite song, but I think I have to say Battle Studies or Room for Squares for my favorite album
YES! Please breakdown the crossroads city love intro! :)
Where The Light Is change my life… For me still the best album
I’ve been playing guitar for 35+ years and I love Continuum for the tones. Room for squares was great for ease of listening but if you really dig in you realize it’s way more complex then it gets credit for. Born and raised is great as well. I love the fact that he keeps reinventing himself. While I may not like all of his songs, he is always doing something interesting.
I'm glad I discovered John mayer in an Era where this guy is just as big as a fan as I am. To the point where he analyzes these kinda of things, omg so good.
where the light is or TRY! are just so great to me
I love Great Indoors off that album. Underrated song.
City love was always special for me
St. Patrick's Day is such an underrated song.
Love your breakdown!
Battle studies 🙌
YES! This song is simply amazing, and the guitar playing is so freaking tasteful
Yeah, Continuum would have to be up there but Room for Squares was what got me into Mayer and I still rock it. Sob Rock is a close second.
Good vid bud, btw it's a little easier to use the open D string to tune the low E to D. Cheers
Live in LA was insane
Born and Raised. all day.... but yeah Room for Squares was my first foray into Mayerland. I LOVE St. Patrick's Day.
I really love Paradise Valley.
Does Try count as a JM album? Cuz that’s my fav
Really enjoyed this.
Room for Squares is the hands down favorite.
Every single album of john is perfect.
any given thursday, for covered in rain
I"ve been enjoying your pivot in content. I'd like to make a humble suggestion... I'm not familiar with this track, could you play clips of the original track in future videos as well?
I like continuum for the bass
my favorite Mayer's album is "Paradise Valley", but you can find some great songs in each album of his.
Battle Studies is my favorite Mayer album second is just Continuum.
Where the light is live album
Favorite Mayer album is “The Search for Everything”. It has all the facets of Mayer and why he’s brilliant.
Bord and Raised overall for how it makes me feel. Continuum for the recording/production.
My favourite is The Search for Everything. It was the first album I discovered to get into John Mayer. There is seriously not a single bad song on the album.
Right now: The Search for Everything, but if I had to listen to one it would probably be Continuum. But I really enjoy all his albums.
Damn man! How did he come up with all this stuff
for me is, where the light is Live Album
I had to sit for a second and think about what my favourite Mayer album is, I love them all. But I couldn't choose between Heavier Things, Room for Squares, and Battle Studies.
Continuum. But RFS is excellent. I remember when they remastered it with the short video of him on the rd, traveling in the van..lots of shots of the gear. That album is so east coast, well written, crafty, warm.. Agree with this song too. Cheers
I love Continuum. But we don’t get that album without Room for Squares or Heavier Things.
City Love is such a perfect song. That bridge is so good. 3x5 is very underrated.
Battle Studies just cause of the more mature essence in both lyrics and music
My JM fav album is: Where the Light Is: John Mayer Live in Los Angeles
You should break down John Squire from the Stone Roses. Their first album is a masterpiece. Songs to check out would be Waterfall or I am the Resurrection.
Fav JM album has to be Battle Studies.
love your channel other than the fact you like JM. I learned "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" a few weeks ago ONLY because you played it quite frequently and it sounded so freaking smooth. I have never given JM a fair try so my disdain for JM is solely based on all of his "popular" songs that get over played on the radio, department store speakers, ect... Room for Squares seems to be a fan favorite in the comments, so..I'll give it a fair try.
Paradise Valley minus “Who You Love.”
You are awesome 👍🏽
You should make a video on Prince soon!!!
