My main guitar is a Silver Sky, and i absolutely love it. I have been through quite alot of strats throughout my guitar journey, and once got to try an original 1962 strat. Since then, everytime i try a strat i subconciously compare it to that glorious '62 strat, and nothing ever came close, untill i tried the silver sky. Mine, is the best guitar i've played, that wasn't dumb-money

Fender has really watered down the strat by having so many different models that play so differently and all over the place. I really like the neck on the Silver Sky as it's nice and chunky like my Peavey Predator.

I'm in the same boat, but on a budget. Tried several US strats before buying, after 30 years of not playing (had a US Strat back then). Ended up with a Silver Sky SE, because it was more of a strat than any of the US Players i tried, atleast soundwise. And the QC/finish is leagues better on an Indonesian PRS than a US Player ..

I am a HUGE Mayer fan as well, and have always loved the feel and sound from a good Strat. I got my Silver Sky about 6 months ago after playing a friend's and falling in love with it. Obviously it is very "Straty", it feels like the best Strat-style guitar I've ever played. But it is more nuanced than that. The Silver Sky is not just a straight-up Strat copy, it has it's own feel and sound to it that you aren't going to find in just any Strat. It really is it's own thing, and it does that "thing" very well!

Mike, I can truthfully attest that when the SS first came out I was apprehensive on trying it out and giving it a chance. When I finally did in 2019 however, I was hooked. It has since become truly an obsession. Fast forward to 2023 and I have 3 (Hello, I have a problem).
The Silver Sky, for me, became the benchmark to which all other single coil guitars are judged against. And to be objective, there are several boutique makers or manufacturers aside from PRS who knock it out of the park in their own way. For me though, this is the 3 single coil guitar I’ve always wanted. THE sound profile is there (I’ve found differences between Rosewood and Maple, each offer different experiences in sound and feel. Gun to my head I’m taking Maple. I think much attention goes to Rosewood which I also love, but the Maple has just got something else going on). THE feel is there. THE vibe is there. THAT feeling of owning something special, mystic, and unique yet incredibly familiar is there!
I’ve watched that same live stream from Mayer featured in your video probably 30+ times no lie. I’ve watched countless reviews, interviews of PRS or anything to glean more info on this instrument. Why? I feel that this instrument has shaken the market place and has altered the status quo. That makes me want to learn more about it. Whether one feels like this instrument is unique take on an iconic design or an unimaginative strat copy with the wrong headstock is subjective to each individual player and their respective opinion. Not here to change your mind, that’s your journey. But what isn’t subjective is the fact the PRS and JM brought to market a model that competes with instruments 1 -2.5x+ the price. And this is good for us as consumers. While not cheap by any stretch, it is however more attainable financially and arguably by availability than the Mario Martin, Suhr, Fender Custom Shop, Anderson, Exotic, etc. ‘s of the world. It has been a level set to the industry. And players get that much closer to having incredible gear more accessible to them.
Anyway, TL;DR: I have 3, I’m obsessed, and so stoked you have one! Enjoy the journey bud!

Mike....if they EVER make a left handed version..I'll be happy to buy and let you know my thoughts ;-) In the meantime, I'll keep buying custom shop Fenders (I've contact PRS every year since 2017 and their responses, including last month, has been the same: "We currently have no plans to produce a left handed Silver Sky in the foreseeable future."). With the quality levels of every aspect of guitars being made today, the differences between one brand and another, has become so subtle, that it is literally down to personal taste, playing style and size of hands (when it comes to necks at least on that last point). I watch Mike's videos and tons of other reviewers channels, as I love hearing and seeing guitars old and new. I spent most of my playing career with one guitar for 30 years, plus a few backups. I've now got a few strats and mid range strat style guitars (plus too many humbucker beasts to mention) but I still want to try out a Silver Sky because whenever I have heard it being played it does seem to have a subtle but distinctive voice.
However, all of my strats have their own feel and sound so I wonder if I'm just suffering from GAS and John Mayer admiration in wanting one of them? I've got so close to buying one and then stopped myself because... well, how many strats does a guy at the end of his career seriously need?
So, I've decided that "if" I decide I want another Strat, I will buy a Silver Sky, because I trust PRS to deliver a quality instrument and I get the spidey-sense tingle that I would love playing it.
In my small city I don't know anyone who owns one that I could borrow for a few nights and trying one out in a guitar store sucks as I want to be able to relax and play through my own rig to make a judgement call. So... it'll probably be mail order or impulse buy at some point. I know I don't "need" another strat, but if I was starting out today would I choose the PRS "Strat" over the Fender? Ya know, I think I just might 😎
PS: Sorry for long ramble - just watching and listening to Mike in this video really got me thinking about it again and browsing guitar stores online.
Peace out and enjoy whatever guitar you love and cherish 👍

One of the biggest differences I’ve noticed between the best guitars I own and the others is that the best ones STAY the best ones.
That sounds weird but my Fender American professional Strat was amazing for the first year that I had it. And then the neck started settling and fret ends started to stick out and this and that and w lot of work has gone into it over the years to the point where it doesn’t have the same magic it did back in 2017.
I’ve had my Silver Sky for nearly four years and have played the snot out of it and it is still every bit as magical of a guitar as it was on day one. It’s as stable as steel and incredible to play. Nothing against Fender, but my Silver Sky is worth every penny

This video is remarkably well-timed (for me anyway) as I finally bought my Silver Sky about two weeks ago.
It’s pricy, but I’d been saving for one for a while now and I love it.

I told myself that I wouldn’t buy a silver sky unless it came out in the right color way for me. Then the Last Train Home video dropped and immediately had to order one, cause I’m a sucker for any guitar in pink.
It’s probably my favorite guitar rn

We have two pink guitars in the house: a 90s Strat Ultra, which my daughter plays, and an almost-pink Silver Sky SE. It's Dragonfruit, technically, but it's as close to pink as PRS makes in the SE range. It's my favorite not-a-Strat-but-definitely-a-Strat-alike guitar I've ever played.

Bruh I see you in this channel as being like the “fine wine” of guitar critics. Call it cliché in whichever way you choose, but say like one of the top food critics in a 3 star restaurant in France. How their insight and opinion inspires growth or perhaps an accurate point of view for noticeable change in gear/equipment etc for the general public. This being said you’re definitely setting the bar for a new type of media influence that can grow into a fresh career when done properly. Keep tryin fine wines an giving us your time. Its highly appreciated.

Totally agree. What I really appreciate about Mike is that he always declares his taste and what he gravitates towards so that you can always take his opinions within the right context. That sort of transparency is not only a great way to connect to your audience, but also allows a consumer to make a more informed decision.

I don't have a Silver Sky for one reason: The Nick Johnston Schecter. Strat-types are a side quest guitar for me, since I'm a metal player primarily. Nick Johnston comes with that humbucker, has a roasted maple neck and that pesky volume knob is away from my pick up. I LOVE the Silver Sky, especially the SE with the lacquered neck, but the NJ fits my strat needs.

I have a Silver Sky SE and as much as I enjoy playing it, I am now sending back to the factory for the 2nd time for massive fret buzz issues. For whatever reason this guitar has not held a set up. I’ve had it in my possession for about year and it’s gone back twice, I don’t think that’s very good. If for some reason it can’t hold a 3rd time I’m demanding they give me a new one.

The popularity of the silver sky and the silver sky SE is fascinating for me. For decades I have heard guitar players praise the early Stratocaster except almost everyone complained about it's 7.25 neck radius. Now the silver sky comes out and everyone loves the guitar and no one complains about the 7.25 neck radius or the 8.50 inch neck radius on the silver sky SE. So did Paul Reed Smith cure the 7.25 radius string choking problem with the silver sky? I'd like to hear from people who really enjoy this guitar on their opinion of the 7.25 inch neck radius and how the Silver Sky feels different than the Stratocaster.

Literally every guitar maker but Gibson builds a Strat or S type guitar so why not the brilliant Paul Reed Smith? The silver sky being a new take on an older classic concept allows players who found the faults in Leo’s original design to get certain things fixed while other classic features remained! Its brilliance as in instrument is in what features were kept versus which ones were updated lol! If your a super fan of a classic strat but also need a few specific modern touches it’s tough to beat

He had to say it’s not a Strat to build on the hype. It’s essentially another super Strat and no matter how hard people try and convince themselves it’s different, it’s still a three single coil, double cut “Strat Style” guitar. It’s only ever going to be a variation full stop.

They’re legit the best if you have more money than a Fender but not enough for a Suhr. I own an AZ and my only issue is the tuning mechanics, but that just takes some getting used to. Other than that, absolutely shreds

i recently started playing a novo solus f1 which is a gibson-scale esquire kind of thing and all the little differences really add up to it sounding pretty different from a 'normal' telecaster. i don't play stratocasters but it's easy to imagine changing the spec details around can have a big sound change despite it looking like a stratocaster.
