I recently acquired an SE 594 singlecut and I gotta say, it’s been an almost magical experience. I’ve been playing only a Strat for the past 3 or 4 years and the PRS is filling a void I’ve been missing. The pickups are pretty much perfect and the playability makes it feel like a guitar that’s double the price. I did not want the DGT because I don’t even use the trem on my Strat. I used to not be into PRS but I think I have converted 😂
I love my PRS SE. The Cort Indonesia factory is making some of the best guitars in world (PRS SE included).
I just recently got a Yamaha Revstar standard with P90’s and the quality is even superior with stainless frets and the best fret job that I have seen on any guitar.
I really adore my SE Singlecut 594. It's got everything going for it, and plays so damn well.
I have an old 2006 single cut Tremonti SE with the special black top and I adore it
@@tobiasschmid-w6t love that model. I'm still kicking myself in the azz for not buying it when it was a Deal of the Day many years ago.
The top tier SE is the Hollowbody II piezo. I was overly impressed with how good it was for the money.
I'm hoping they get re-stocked soon. Every place has them back ordered.
The Peacock Blue one is beautiful!
was actually my first guitar about a year ago! go big or go home! (i now have too many guitars)
I got mine! I love it! ❤
I think one of the things that separates SE from other import guitar lines is that the factory in Indonesia that Cor-Tek runs for PRS is specifically a PRS factory, and that's all they build there. They won't be building for multiple brands from day to day so the enployees know those models very throughly.
I have a McCarty 594 made in Indonesia. I absolutely love it. Comfortable, well made, humbuckers with split option and both sound good, to be fair humbuckers sound better. No flaws that I’ve found so far.
Wowzers...I am pretty psyched. I am getting a Turquoise SE McCarty in 2 days. Will definitely give it a rundown on my channel. My second time around to PRS. I think this will be the one that sticks. Nice job Mike. I have to much to learn about this YT stuff. Building a channel is crazy hard work, but so much fun. Congrats on all of your success.
I bought my first PRS a couple months ago when the 20% off sale hit. Got the single cut 594 SE Vintage Cherry. Fell in love with it. It's my go to now. My son was spending his last christmas at home then moving out into the world. When I was gone at work he'd pick it up and play it. So I decided to get one for him for christmas. He ended up with the Tobacco Sunburst model.
That’s a really lovely story! Thanks for sharing
PRS are the Taylor's of electric guitars...
???
I assume you mean that they are built consistently well?
Maybe they mean it has a clean, full sound, that’s on the brighter end of the spectrum..
no. freaking. way. taylor is full of mojo
Taylor is like Gibson… As GiBson is 2nd to fender, the Taylor is 2nd to Martin. Promise jesus
I had an SE Custom 24 back in the day and wasn't a fan, but they have come light years in, what seems to be, the last 5-6 years or so. Much like you, I got the SE Silver Sky and loved it. I've had a Tremonti SE and a new Custom 24 SE. In the last year I was fortunate enough to be asked to join a band and have upgraded to a Core Silver Sky and a CE24, and looking at getting an S2 594. Out of the 7 guitars I have, including Fender, Ibanez, and a Parker, the PRS are hands down the ones I consistently reach for when I sit down to learn parts or playing in live situations.
Your stank face game is on point
I bought a PRS studio version in 1989. It is one of my favorite guitars. It is plain compared to the PRS guitars of today but it has the sound that is unlike any other guitar. Love it.
I have the same 594 SE .. same color too … I have the same experience with friends coming in and being blown away by the look, finish, playability and sweet articulation of the pickups. I have to almost force myself to play my other guitars. I did get an SE Silver Sky too with that end of 2023 discount - rude not to. Wasn’t an SE fan before these guitars but you are right, they have created a different thing with them. For an amateur like me I’m happy they are close enough to the core models.
Hi, thank you for your videos, especially our love of PRS.
Just one clarification: it is "coil split" (not "coil tap", which is more applicable to power transformers). The guy on the "science of loud" channel has a good video on the difference (that guy winds his own pickups and transformers... whew, that's out there).
I always look forward to your videos.
I have the PRS se Paul's guitar and PRS se Zach Meyer semi-hollow made in Korea. The older green version
I own three PRS SE guitars, Zach Myers, Santana Abraxas, and the Swamp Ash Special. The Swamp Ash Special is my favorite of the three. I also own the core PRS John Mayer Silver Sky (Frost with maple fretboard), which I love.
Split!!! Split!!! Split!!!!
I've played and enjoyed every SE I've seen at guitar shops. My favorite is the new Swamp Ash Special SE. My friend picked one up the week it came out and I can't believe how well made it looks, feels, and sounds. Highly recommend checking out the new SAS SE (in the Blue/Green color 😮❤)
the SE hollowbody 2 is pretty sweet, really great sounding pickups and super light.
I just got a SE McCarty 594 brand new in a spring sale for £550!! Been reading and watching videos about them for months! Can’t wait for it to get here!
I'd have to say the Mark Holcomb, for one single reason: it has it's own thing going, even among the Maryland ones, and it does it damn well too. I've had for years a Custom 22 and a CE 24 so I kind of overlooked the SE line. My only interactions with that line had to do with trying some Tremonti models, which for a while was quite ubiquitous in the alt rock/metal world, and always feeling it was "ok"; an ok that was on par of the ibanez and schecter beater guitars I used on gigs that cost less than half of that. So I just assumed that was the SE line as a whole, up until I got the chance to play around with the six string Holcomb model and boy was that a treat! The neck felt fast than my CE 24, the pickups where super hot and tight, everything felt rock solid and it had a unique yet very premium looking aesthetic. But most importantly, it was it's own thing; for the first time it didn't feel like a gateway drug to the proper PRS but something I could find only there and didn't leave me wanting something better. That legitimized the SE line for me
5:35 Chevy Truck Month ass riff
Great video and to each their own.
This is my favorite guitar, ever. The neck felt so close to my Gibson Les Paul that I bought 3 of these, in the first 3 colors they released it in. I also slap a ‘Duncan Jazz (8.4k) in the bridge and it’s perfect. The coil tap can get some great tele tones out of it and I use it a lot with a Synergy Morgan AC module.
I just purchased one of these on Reverb after playing a used, slightly busted version of one of these at Guitar Center 😂 excited to get my hands on it, thanks for the breakdown Mike! Very honest and informative
I recently got a SE Standard 24 08 and personally, it fulfills everything that I need in a gigging scenario. I can use it in rock, blues, RnB, fusion and even on metal, and does not disappoint. It is 24 frets and an awesome, stable tremolo. I have tried playing a SE 594 yet but since it is a hardtail, it doesn't really cover more genres for me. Personally, at the moment, the 24 08 is the top tier SE for me.
I bought the Se DGT and the 594 (mine is a single cut) around the same time last year. The DGT is fantastic. I think it may be the best guitar at that price point, or maybe even a little above.
The 594 is also a great guitar, but like you, I definitely rank the DGT higher. Still, it is a high quality instrument and I intend to keep it around for a while.
Just this week, I received the Se Swamp Ash Special. Just beginning the honeymoon phase, but I might even like this one more than the DGT. The current Se line from PRS is no joke.
Anyway, I loved the video.
I have 3 SE models. I have a Mushok baritone, a Torero with a Floyd Rose, and the Holcomb model. The Mushok has Duncan Blackout pickups and theTorero has Duncan Mick Thomson pickups. I treat them as metal stunt guitars. They are awesome tools. You can't beat SE models for quality and price with functionality.
I love my SE DGT the most. The McCarty 594 second, and Silver Sky third!
Of my 3 SE's, (Customer24 & Blue Sky). my 594 gets played the most. It has anice clean tone, it's lightweight, has a gorgeous vintage burst & it's easy playing.
The other 2 SE's are great playing as well. The Custom 24 is a looker with the Eriza Verde Quilted top.
Fortunately PRS makes a few SE guitars for left handed players, but with owning a beautiful Les Paul standard and a amazing Custom Shop Strat, I don’t think about a PRS whether it is a Core or SE.
I think the PRS Santana would be a much better selling guitar if they did it like with the Silver Sky and gave it a catchy name like "Brown Water", or "Wet Soil".
After having many Core models, I got last year an SE Pauls's Guitar and damn. I love that guitar. I currently have the Paul's Guitar SE, the Silver Sky Maple SE and the DGT SE. I adore the 3 of them, and the fact that they are not super expensive but at the same time I dont have the feel or urge that Im missing something is fantastic. With Gibson or Fender, similar price models I really feel underwhelmed.
I want to grab the 594 SE just because haha, I dont need it, but will see. Or maybe a hollobody SE would be great. If in my country one of them shows up at a great price I think will grab it.
But I just can say after having the DGT core a Sivler Sky Core and a regular McCarty , the SE counterparts im very very happy with.
The McCarty regular there is no SE counterpart, but the paul's guitar you could say it is, since its the same bridge, 2 knobs and 2 humbuckers , wide fat neck (the paul's core model has the special sized narrowfield pickups).
So cool and informative. I am a fully non sighted player that loves playing guitars!
I got a core Custom 24 w/ piezo and it was just love at first play. I spent an hour at the store and played over 15 guitars from music mans to anderson's to suhr's and the PRS just felt different. It felt like home. Freakin amazing guitars.
was looking at a flame Epiphone LP and a flame PRS SE. After watching a video on (ELP) I am definitely going to get PRS SE
My favourite guitar is my pauls guitar se. Its outplayed my heart over many more expensive ones.
Youre right. I was a core prs player. Traded my core prs standard 24 in for a prs se 277, prs se 594 singlecut, and a prs se holcomb 7 string. Now... My old SE singlecut tremonti is a huge gap from the core models. But i kid you not my 594 se is superior to my core standard 24. And the others i got are dam near equal to it in quality. I no longer have a logical reason to pay 4k for a core model. They really took the se line to the next level. Also i favored the sound of the singlecut 594 se over the mccarty varient. I had a similar feeling toward the mccarty as you.
The PRS SE DGT has the best se pickups but i think the Hollowbody Piezo and Mark Holcomb are just on a tier of their own. The Zach Myers probably has my favorite neck tho. So many good unique SE models out there now.
Those 58/15 LT (low turn) pickups in the McCarty are my favorite and will buy them one day. I have four other PRS SE and love them and LOL I’m a drummer. 😂
Yes, I bought a Squier as my first electric (well, technically second, since I bought an unknown mystery guitar at an antique market a few weeks earlier), so I'd like to hear your thoughts about your Squier. (I'm skeptical about how you borrowed your friend's PRS. 😆 )
I like the DGT but my fave is the se hollow body II with piezo… best se
5:20 clean tone is money
I appreciate your input!
Really hyped to receive my first PRS tomorrow! 🙏 The SE 24 custom I think I got? 🙃
I have no idea why (almost) nobody talks about the CEs. American-made bolt-on. My CE24 (semi-hollow) is a monster.
6:12 brooooo 🔥😤
Yes, please talk about the Squier 40th Anniversaries! I’ve been eyeing the Strat for awhile 😎
I used to buy the se one that 2014 made, in my opinion i think that might be not quite good enough
And i sold it on the 2 - 3 years ago
Now the day prs se is more impoverished than the old days.
I ought to think about it again to make prs se into my choice
Thank you Mike always enjoy your videos
i get it totally; same thing happened to me each time i bought a prs custom 24; nothing near the voice and the resonance and the feel;
The Mark Holcomb SE is the best because it's the most versatile guitar in the SE line
the prs se custom with ebony fretboard 14 inch radius and floyd rose is pretty much the do all guitar
I really want to like my prs custom 24 se and mccarty 594 se but I keep wanting to go back to my Yamaha Pacifica PAC612VIIFM and I like it way more than the prs silver sky witch I was not impressed with at all amd I really wanted to be. Also I feel the Mcarthy is the sexy one of the bunch and since I got the les paul style I feel like it really looks sexy especially with those bird inlays.
Just got my second McCarty over winter break when it was on sale. Went to Chicago music exchange to grab it and loved it. Been playing it ever since and love everything about it. As you can tell from my pfp I’m a deqdhead and I play mostly dead stuff so I wanted a guitar I could hit lots of John Mayer clean dead and co tones as well as classic Jerry tones while also having something that looks nice and is comfortable. It does all that really well.
se CE24'S are amazing. I have 2 early 90's CE24'S and this is a little different but in some ways, i like it better! And if you're into modding, it's perfect. Its almost a perfect CE as is though too.
I absolutely love my SE 245 Cherry Burst, i ended up finding out that it was a model exclusively released in the UK and that there would be only 20 of each colour as well... i think its one of the best guitars i own, and i find myself swapping between that and my 40th anniversary squier telecaster the most... my poor pelham blue epiphone sg custom pro just doesn't get a look in at the moment
Hey! Always a great day when Mike uploads:)
I love my starla SE
Yes we need a video on the 40th squiers
My 40th Jazzmaster in sand with maple neck continues to be the best guitar ever. Got one on a whim and it constantly feels better than anything else I play
Get a wood library with a flamed maple neck and a Floyd Rose. It will blow your nuts off. Must be a custom 24. 😂
The model/shape most people think of when they imagine PRS is the custom24
It’s their strat, or Les Paul
Not the silver sky
Not the singlecut
Not the mccarty
It’s their flagship.
Saying people think "McCarty" when they think of PRS, is like saying people think of a Jazzmaster, or an Explorer.
Might be true, in some regard/context, but it's not their most popular model.
My opinion, top-tier se is the Paul's guitar model
I love my 594! I have the darker one and like that finish better.
If you just play guitar for the sound, se's are fine. If you want a premium feeling the cores and s2's deliver that. Leaving aside the tonewood debate, generally higher end vintagey guitars have lower output pickups and pots that allow for more detail of sound. Which a 'beginner' might not necessarily find pleasing.
I definitely wanna see the squier 40th anniversary review cuz im planning to get the black gold tele
I still own my core Silver Sky, I had the SE Silver Sky. Biggest difference was the neck. Otherwise it was about 80% the same. For the money it beats squier / player series IMO.
so should i get silversky se or take something else, since i cant afford the silversky. i planned to buy that se but still not sure. (for replacing my squier, mainly play crunchy bluesy sound) tx
@@junoomarseda Buy the SS SE, it's still better than Squier / Fender player series.
@@synonyx my guitar is currently strat affinity kinda entry levl stuff i bought at 3.5 in my cntry. that the playability like less good. so my plan was to change it to something better, but the opts isnt so much since my limited budget, its around 8. at that 8, there was somthn lke aria pro 2 tele deluxe model i like the sound but not sure abt other parts. another was squier cv around 8.5 but its squier again im afraid i get another same squier with higher price. looking for ibanez nf series but looks like no shop sell it here.. here the ss se is around 11 out of my budget but still ok that not too far. fender like around 16 to 25 or maybe 30. ss here is around 35 which is NOT for me. if you think ss se is worth so lets go then. tx 👍🏼
If I was going to get an SE 594, I'd also get the black and gold. I'm still pondering it.
You need to try the paul's guitar. Both the SE and core ar SO good.
Wish they made a hard tail SE with a thin / shallow neck!
Great video as always Mike! Just curious which of the 40th anniversary Squiers did you get to play? I picked up the 40th vintage edition Jazzmaster and can't put it down
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Squier 40th Anniversary guitars (specifically the Tele and maybe the Jazzmaster).
Love your videos man! What is your filming setup?
Would love to hear your take on the Squire 40th anniversary stuff.
I miss the dragon inlay.
I picked up a maple neck SE Silver Sky last year and it is everything I had hoped it to be...my other guitars are gaining dust...PRS included
Nice review 👏🏻
PRS absolutely rocks. SE line is best value in guitars today. USA Core line is unbelievably great. But…don’t EVER discount Music Man instruments. Sterling (like SE line) branded guitars are wonderful players, but their USA line guitars are magnificent. Give both a try!!
I didn’t know PRS had coil tapping models. Interesting…
please do a video on the 40th anniversary squier
Aesthetics are VERY important, and, for my own personal taste in guitar finishes, I always feel like I'm being punked whenever I'm told that any burst finish actually looks good. I'm sorry, but I have maybe seen 3 burst finishes in my life that even remotely looked good to me, and I have no idea how it ended up being as popular of a guitar finishing style as it did.
Nostalgia I suppose, people deify those 59 LPs (some do look great) honestly I like soild colours myself if I ever get another LP style or a PRS I'd be looking for that
@@Sl0W00 Yeah, that sounds about right. Also, yes, solid colors are the best.
Yeah, LPs are great guitars, I've never owned one myself, but I'm not gonna be a contrarian just to act like I don't get why LPs are so popular, because they deserve to be popular. (Even if the name brand tax for Gibsons are a fucking joke at this point)
@@Hey-Its-Dingo ain't gonna lie I'm a budget guitar player which means flame tops are always veneers so it kinda puts me off a bit more. I do love my epi lp standard 60s though excellent guitar for the price I got it
Do a video on the Squire 40th anniversaries!
I love my blue Zach Myers SE that I modded to have coil splits
I currently have a 245 and a 594. Im thinking im going to try to sell the 245 and pick up a dgt. Like you, i love my 594, but i do want to try the dgt with a trem on it.
Why a DGT over a McCarty?
Hey Mike. What desk is that you have. I’ve been looking to get one and the one you have looks like something I’m looking for.
Best PRSSE model DGT I had a wood library 594 absolutely was in love with it and I didn’t play it too much so I felt like I should sell it. Vegas mistake. I picked up a 594SE, McCarty and I felt like going from a Ferrari to a Volkswagen However, the DGT is its own animal
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the 40th anniversary Squire guitars
Please check out the SE Paul's Guitar. Just got one and it is awesome.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the 40th Anniversary Squiers.
Wait till you try a Suhr 😏
Sounded a bit muddy to be honest.
Swamp ash special . So many tones ,so different sounding . Can not put it down ,just ...
Meh, I know of too many that went PRS SE for the hype, ended up reselling those after gushing about their SE for a week. They ended up going back to a Squier CV or Fender Player for the strat. I really think you can get a Sterling by Music Man & end up at about the same as the PRS SE & save $300-500 in the process. A CV is obviously going to save one about $300, a Player MiM and you're spending the same money. It comes down to whether you're after a Made in China vs Mexico vs Indonesia. I'm good with the Indonesian Bullet & Affinity strata that I have. Plug & play those into a better/premium amp and either are as good as the PRS you played in this video. That's not slighting the PRS, it's the respect that even a pre-owned Bullet or Affinity is. It's the guitar player & setup, too many other variables to even get a Squier under $300 to sound fine with what it came with out of the box, or off the wall at Guitar Center.
Nice. Liked and Subd.
I was not a fan of the SE SS. It wasnt similar enough to my core SS to get to protect myself from theft or damage.
I do really need a hollowbody II Piezo though. Real fuckin bad.
I don't like videos that just do guitar playing and I always do like hearing people talk about their thoughts on guitars.... but this guy's never-ending stream of talk is make me making me question that stance
Please check out Musi Virgo guitars! 🤩🤩🤩
I think if you don’t like it, I’ll take it!😏
Paper towel? Dude get you some gorgomyte.
So different it costs $3000 for a guitar with only one set of controls...
