1996 was the year of Star Ocean, Treasure of the Rudras, Radical Dreamers, Bahamut Lagoon, Treasure Hunter G., Tobal No.1, and...Super Mario RPG. With the exception of the last game, all the rest did not make it out of Japan because it was so late in the SNES life span...

Something about the graphics in all those games turns me off. Secret of Mana 2 or whatever they're calling that these days has that quality too. They did something, like maybe pre-rendered everything at a higher resolution and then shrunk it down for SNES that makes everything kind of blurred and indistinguishable.
I guess it looked amazing at the time but doesn't seem to have aged well.
Mario RPG still looks okay, because they made everything colorful, but I think that graphical style lends itself really well to the remake we got since it's more or less what they were going for in the first place.

@@WilliamScavengerFish Final Fantasy I think, but possibly Dragon Warrior from the Nintendo Power giveaway. I feel like FF was first but I don't know when I actually played it.
My friends and I played it as a four player game, passing around the controller to input commands during battles

One of the first games I emulated. One of the rare rpgs I haven't finished on snes XDD I started it about 600 times but never played more than an hour I think
