Using lighter roasts I had to use the inner ring set to -5 and 1 in the outer ring, in order to pull a decent shot (also had to increase yield for it to not be sour)
Just got mine in, and it's a massive upgrade in consistency quality over my Encore. The Encore was a great upgrade from being stuck with a blade grinder, but also an upgrade over all of the $100-and-under mills I'd tried. So its rad getting to finally step up again! Not sure I would go any higher for filter coffee, and since I lack a true espresso machine, I'm not yet plussed about the espresso quality.
I’ve had many frustrations with my grinder; pairing it with the Bambino Plus hasn’t been the greatest match. I have to set the outer grind size to 5 to prevent it from choking my machine. The retention is pretty high too, maybe I haven’t found the right coffee beans or I Don’t know, starting to regret buying it in the first place
What beans are you using? If they’re fresh and not super light roast and you’re not getting good results I’d sell it and grab a DF54. Those are super nice and everyone gets good results on them.
Amazes me how many reviews never actually show the grinder in use by the reviewer WITH SOUND. I'm looking for a nice, quiet grinder and this one is supposed to be. But finding a review to actually hear it...seemingly impossible.
How would you compare it to the Wilfa Svart? I mostly do V60 with the occasional espresso for which I can use a separate grinder… should I upgrade from Wilfa to Opus?
My grinder was a gift. I am so very sad. It simply does not work. No connection at all . Plugged in or not plugged in, there is no differnce. There is no connection. It simply does not work. As a gift, I have no idea where to go or what to do. It just sits on my kitchen counter and is never used because it simply does not work.
I’ve had issues with mine. I’m on my third one now. I will say they have excellent customer service.
Well, that’s the good at least.

I’m glad it worked for you. I used 18g and a solid medium roast. I think dosing up would be a good move if needed.

Nice. Glad to hear. Yeah, I tend to use a grinder for one thing. I think filter is where it sings ultimately. Good brews. ✌🏼

That's a good point. I would not call it quiet, but it's not as loud as my Baratza Vario-W.
I find it quiet, especially for a budget grinder, much quieter than the Baratz EncoreESP

I don't think you need to upgrade, unless you just like the aesthetics of the Opus compared to the Wilfa.
I love Wilfa, he is a great, reliable worker. But I don't grind espresso on it.
Fair enough!
So i guess this grinder is for medium dark or dark roast beans only when dialing for espresso..
I would say as a drip, yes, every roast level. For espresso, you nailed it.
Not worth it. Broken after 5 months and slow response from customer service
Hate to hear that. Thanks for sharing though.

If you reach out to Fellow, I bet they help you get a replacement.
