Blaine, I just wanted to say thank you for your efforts with your tutorials. I have undertaken many handyman projects over the years, kitchens, bathrooms, tiles, cupboards etc but I was scared of plastering. Your tutorials provided me the confidence to undertake some plastering work and eventually the confidence to buy a run down cottage in Wales (a dream of mine) and start renovating it. I have just finished ripping out an entire lathe and plaster ceiling (which was sagging badly), fitting new 5 x 2 joists, reboarding it and plastering the ceiling. My first ever attempt at a ceiling. Without your input I would likely never have my dream cottage, or a new lifestyle and I can't thank you enough. Your efforts don't just provide people with skills, but in this case really contributed to a whole new home in a whole new, and lovely place and a new start in life in a wonderful adventure in rural Wales. I have returned to the UK from South Africa and my wife will join me shortly in our new home. Your efforts have contributed significantly to the success of the project.. !!!

I’ve been plastering for over 15 years. I see a lot of videos on RUclips that are absolute nonsense. This is not 1 of them. This is how to plaster to the nvq textbook. Been wanting to teach the labourer but been to busy. This video will be the perfect watch for him.

After watching this about five times I skimmed my first wall after removing some original blown plaster. It looks a bit patchy drying out, but it’s smooth and flat. There are a few bits that will need filling, but the edges are all good. It’s getting papered anyway, and I’m pleased with the result. Next job is an upstairs loo over plasterboard, which should be easier.
If that turns out OK I’ll have saved about £700, so cheers for the video.

I’ve plastered 15 years and your tuition is mint .you put it on that well one coat would have been good but 2 is always best.I never work out the bucket anymore I put it on a spot board hip high saves a hell a lot of work as you get older.it’s a hard game

Just wanted to say thank you so much to Blaine. The variety of great videos, advice and honest walk throughs has helped me learn so so much. I watched most videos again and again as I always miss bits and it’s always a pleasure coming back to the channel. Understanding how plaster reacts and works isn’t something you can read in a book. My first attempt after 2 weeks of near non stop watching vids and buying correct tool (love the speedskim) turned out really well and friends tell me it looks like a pro did it. Blaine is a true diamond, I offered to donate as a thank you and wouldn’t accept any money. I’ll be coming back again and again to these vids as I do more renovations and am looking forward to future vids. Absolutely great teacher. Words can’t describe. Peace and love

Hi Blaine. I’m not a plasterer / good start.I’m a handyman doing different small jobs.Plasters x 2 arrived on a job to replace some drywall that was damaged in a kitchen. The board was cut / scrim tape applied/ then mixed Plaster of Paris powder into the bonding and plastered over the scrim.
Apparently according to them/ it dries quick and doesn’t crack or shrink.

I recently purchased the online plastering course and today is the first chance I've had to put it to the test. 2 valuable lessons learnt
first being don't use cheap buckets as the bloody thing cracked as I was near the top of the stairs resulting in a bucket of muck tumbling everywhere.
Second is you have more time than you think when working with plaster. I'd plastered one wall and had loads left over so I started a second and flitted between the 2 and I'm really happy with the results. Thanks once again Blaine for the videos!

Hi mate, thanks for getting the course. I really appreciate it! Haha this made me laugh since that happened to me when I started - was it a £1 B&Q bucket by any chance ha??

Although my walls aren't perfect every one I've done has been better than the last. Blaine does some great videos on you tube and I would recommend his on line course.

First question is when you start flattening, is it best to flatten after the first coat and then flatten again after the second? And how long after applying the coat can you flatten?
I'll have to re-watch this anyway at some point as it can take take me a bit longer to absorb information.
Again I really enjoyed your video. You're a very good teacher.

im a spark...and up until now ...have only done bonding coat....now im doing refurbs and needed to learn how to plaster correctly. i mean proper, this guy has taken me through the entire process...and i am already getting smooth marble looking plaster after what i thought was one step....turns out its about 7 stages...first coat, flatten, second thinner coat, flatten, sponge, flatten lines, wet trowel, and cross trowel, and dry trowel
..... i learned the hard way , not to cut corners and get that excess platster off your coving and wood ...IMMEDIATELY...
I plastered ceiling, then left it for about a month...thought oh ill go and scrape off the excess on the coving........took ME 2 BLOODY DAYS UP A LADDER TO GET AROUND THE WHOLE ROOM..had to use a stanley knife and meticulousy scrape it off inch by inch...LESSON LEARNED.
THIS GUY IS THE KING OF PLASTERING.....YOU CAN learn to be a professional plasterer, just by following this guys training, like an apprentice.

The first time I did a stucco patch I watched videos for hours and prepared everything. Put it on the hawk all excited to start went to put it on my trowel and plop. Straight on the ground. Took a couple times to get the technique lol

Hi, first thank you for all your videos, so my question is, what is the time between different steps? Thank you in advance.

All I can say is that your videos are really clear and informative. Moved intomy house that needs redeveloping throughout and done a couple of rooms but got a plasterer in. I really like my DIY and would be proud to say "I done all this" with more jobs so as everything is getting more expensive I am going to give the plastering a go myself and starting in a small closet. Missed out on a chance for the email tutorials but want to thank you for your advice, help, tips and clear demonstrations. HERE GOES !!!!

Polishing plaster is a bad idea and most don't bother with it now. A good tutorial though, thank you. I always used to tell my plasterers to put one coat on, if the wall was new and straight (it was because I just built it) that's all it needed.

Very good step to step guide to plastering. Well informing, all I now need is some plaster, tools and buckets.

Just watched your video and it is sooo making me want to do some of our smaller walls in the house we have just purchased. We can't afford a plaster for the full house and so I would like to give this a go.
Please could I have a full list of what equipment I need. I googled water brush but I can not find it. Only a pasting brush comes up. I feel excited to give it ago. To be honest my attempts can't be as bad as our walls now haha.
I have just subscribed.... does this mean I will see your videos on my RUclips feed 😃
Any help would be certainly appreciated 🙏 😊

Really appreciate the slower teaching here especially the trowel techniques.
I knew that would be something I would struggle with as a first timer. Thanks for making this video!!

Hi I’m new to plastering and just discovered your videos which provide more info than the training place that I went to. I have just plastered a wall and was trying to find out what I done wrong. I have like bumpy water rippels and it’s really annoying me but I can’t quite put my finger on what I have done wrong. Please help 😁

Thank you for watching mate! To be honest, it could be that you've not flattened your first coat enough before applying your 2nd coat of plaster. Or it could be that you didn't apply enough pressure during the flattening process.
It's tough to say without being there but there's a few suggestions to help my friend. Good luck next time and just keep skimming!

Great content delivered clearly and confidently. I'll never understand the dislikes on your videos - I can only guess they're from jealous plasterers who don't know how to create similar content.

So after my first wall, there is a few little areas where I'm not happy - Can I get away with a very quick skim over those areas whilst i'm doing the next wall?
Or... what would my options be? :)
