Firstly he shouldn't be afraid of death, as he is a faceless man and according to their religion death is a mercy. So when Jaqen is named he should have no hesitation about killing himself. And Jaqen talks about a red god, which is a epithet of the Lord of Light. Which is not viewed as a traditional death god, and even so why wouldn't Jaqen refer to him as the many faced god still? That is one of the intriguing parts about Jaqen, when you look closer at him many things don't add up.
I still think this is the moment Jaquen decided to try and recruit her. "A girl lacks honour" is not the insult most think, it's a statement of fact an an acknowledgement of drive, he recognizes her for the ruthless badass she is in that moment. :)

One of the great strengths of the TV show was how brilliantly cast the child actors were. Not just initially either, Bella Ramsey did the casting team proud as well. They had to carry so much of the story and mature along with it and they did it brilliantly. The eventual disintegration of the show was never the fault of the acting.
