It's unbelievably beautiful, at first i was wishing micro-fig scale, because like that you can capture a much more epic scene, but this set has so many details, architectural decoration, amazing minifigs, that it might just have won me over. (and hopefully it diffuses the wish for additional LOTD minifigures and we could get a micro-scale Minas Thirith... now imagine that)

I'm blown away! I cannot wait to pick this up! I've been building Lego and have had massive collections since I was a child (I'm in my 40's), and I love the fact Lego has been catering to the older crowd with these more expensive sets. I don't want small $100 sets. I want beautiful massive scenes and structures with tons of figures. In my opinion 2022 and 2023 are looking to contain the best Lego sets ever produced. Lion Knights castle, Optimus Prime, UCS Razor Crest, Galaxy Explorer, Blacksmith, Jazz Club, and now Rivendell!

@tobias Hehle it's not too much for the piece count, minifigs, license, and size. To make it less expensive, they'd have to cut it down further. This set wouldn't be anywhere near as beautiful or have the same amount of figs at $250.

you got the rivendell model from.weta, aka the guys that made the movie props for the triology and the hobbit, for 400 bucks.
This is no where near as good of a model.
      The licence?
Sure that is expensive but guess what, it ain't the reason that the price is 500$
      Lego has huge profit margins.
Lets compare it to a set from another brick producer.
      Blue Brixx.
The part quality is on par with legos.
They sell a colosseum model with 3407 pieces for 129,95 bucks.
Take 2 and you got more pieces than this set at about half the price.
So you are trying to tell me that the licence is worth 250 bucks?

    • @leader_one
      @leader_one Год назад +1

@@mangosteak You can't compare it to any of those. You can only compare Lego to other Lego. Piece count, minifigs, and theme. The UCS Razor Crest from Lego was $600. The Lion Knights castle was $400. For $500 Rivendell sits in the correct place. It has fewer figures than the castle (not by much actually), but far more pieces and is licensed. It has very similar piece count to the Razor Crest, but far more figures.
Lego has profit margins. They can't sell those other sets I mentioned but randomly cut this sets price down. Also, I don't want a $250 Rivendell. The detail, size, and fig selection would be cut in half. If anything, give me a double sided Rivendell (no open back) and charge $200 more. That would be awesome.
Nobody is forcing anyone to buy these. I feel at this price they will still sell like crazy. Look at all the Lego aftermarket on eBay. Old sets with half the pieces going for $500 to $1k+ and people buy them up like crazy.

Personally, frankly, I think Lego's current prices are insane. This set is really great I'd buy it probably at 200 or even 300 €, which I still think is a lot. But 500?! I'm not saying never, but that's a really tall order. At this point Lego has become a luxury product. The toy version of a Lambourgini. Especially if you consider that Cada, Bluebrixx, Xingbao and Cobi and others easily make products as good but for a fraction of the price (without the licensed products). Lego will loose its audience if they keep it up, save for the wealthy Superfans who can afford it.
And this is not against people who buy these sets. It's fine if you can afford it and I honestly don't want to ruin anyone's purchase. I'm just questioning Lego's reasoning for their prices and absolutely disagree with them and think even for a quality product, they're asking too much.

The brickheadz were a nice amuse bouche for the LOTR fans who have been waiting a decade for a new set, and I think we all (those who have been waiting) will manage to find $500 to display this set! The smaller council set can be found for $150 but it is laughable in comparison. I do believe the future LOTR sets will be "affordable" but if they lack displayability they won't be coming home with me.. So getting $500 now is better than $0 ever, those who can't afford will get the cheaper sets IMO

Too big, too espensive micro scale would have been nicer only if it can be cheaper. The gazebo is the best part with the prints being the second best parts

I like the new leaf pieces, colour scheme is good, overall ok but I am not feeling the umph, minifigs look dated also dont like the move away from the yellow faces, maybe thats for the better as I got other things to spend 429 for :D

As someone who's pretty happy with the original themed sets, and really didn't feel the need to expand, this set alone may change all that. Personally thought the original take on the Council of the Ring/Rivendell felt good enough for what little it was ($35 set back in the day I think) what Lego's done here is absolutely stunning, and beautifully fleshed out more so than I ever expected. Never expected Lego to step away from the microscale styled builds, but apparently the fans got through in a big way as not only is the build beautiful, and complete but has a complete collection of minifigs to go with it. Price is super steep, but value for what's being built/displayed is definitely there. Looking forward to the build review/final verdict.

Very pricey but then again so was the Lion Knight’s Castle and I got that so…😂 I want this just for the figures alone though. All of them will be worth so much in the following years. The structure and landscaping is outstanding too! I will wait until a nice GWP drops until I get this.
