This was great interview and I am so glad someone manufacturing drones has those thoughts and onions. As a DJI owner and operator and Its refreshing to hear a CEO speak with actual common sense and understands that the entire China drone issue is just our government trying to have more control. Also FL is absolutely trash for banning the best drone on the market to save lives

Thank you for the great presentation.
Intellectual property and patent licensing is a primary business driver for technology industries. Think IBM PC standardization or Qualcomm patents in cellular phones. From a DJI perspective, they can make income from licensing their existing tech while not having any of the manufacturing, resource, sales or regulation liabilities. It's the safest, lowest risk way to make money in perpetuity using existing IP.
Anzu Robotics' business model is a logical extension of the drone industry. Building a "local" company to innovate the core technology from DJI's platform to be built and wrapped in hardware/software that is capable of meeting US regulator requirements and modern data security concerns. I really appreciate there are people like Randall that are willing to drive these types of modern business solutions.

I am a drone photographer and videographer, I work for the Marketing wing of an Architecte/Engineering firm out of Indianapolis. Our office does largely transportation engineering, and we do a lot of work with/for the Texas Department of Transportation . We also have offices in Florida and are developing more projects with the Florida DOT as well. With Texas's recent DIR ban on DJI technology and Florida's ban on DJI drones, myself, as well as others who do surveying, construction inspection, investigative engineering, etc. have been tasked with finding an alternative to DJI drones. For months now, the answer has been "there really isn't one," the closest options being Autel (still a Chinese company) or Parrot (not economically viable for what we do, and still not the quality we would get from DJI). I feel like this is the first real solution I have found for my purposes as Mavic 3 user for photgraphy and video, and once the Aloft software has been able to add on pre-planned missions, I believe our Surveyors and other engineers will be very interested in this.

Awesome to see the efforts from Randall Warnas and Anzu Robotics! Please please move as fast as possible into a M30T style platform (you can call it Rex :). The advantages of the M30T for first responders is huge (IP ratings, redundant safety features, heavier payloads, higher optical magnification, better speaker/spotlight combos, hot swappable batteries, etc).

A little disappointed to hear that the fimware is DJI-provided as a frozen-in-time at the time of licensing, with only software (SDK) and presumably software updates provided by Aloft. Firmware is what controls data protocols, transmission and encryption between the aircraft and controller. With the Mavic 3 FW now a couple of years in the wild we would expect this Raptor to be as robust and well-sorted (caveat being it'll be as well-sorted as it can ever be, at launch, WRT firmware). The Smart Controller will no doubt be some version of Android but also frozen in time. So this leaves 3rd party add-on and compatibility (mapping, 3D) and future-proofing somewhat of an open question. Will Anzu sell Raptors in numbers sufficient to ensure there's 3rd party support? Hopefully they will
