    I don’t think the second one (worm gear) is remotely unintentional, but the clutch (number 3) is brilliant!

    The second one, the worm gear, is AWESOME

      It seems almost intended with how well it works

    • @DoNotPushHere
      @DoNotPushHere 2 года назад +1

      Plus it works as a mechanical diode... Try to make the worm gear receive the input from the standard gear and it won't turn. It will try to slide on its axis...

  • @Caldoric
    @Caldoric 2 года назад +24

    First is alright, second is totally baller, third is useful but possibly "illegal" by Lego's definition... It's either stressing/wearing down the gear, the chains, or possibly even both.

    • @qrygamer
      @qrygamer 2 года назад

      second is just a weird gear ratio

  • @nak_attak
    @nak_attak 2 года назад +16

    The tumbnail would not work in load bearing situations. If the upper gear got a counter clockwise rotational force, the lower worm gear would be pushed out horizontally to the right. The only way to make that work would either be in a situation where you would not get counter clockwise rotational feedback, or by supporting the worm gear to the right as well. Still a great video nonetheless.

      @arctic219 2 года назад +3

      True

    • @autochton
      @autochton 2 года назад +1

      Very much a solvable problem that you by and large have anywhere you use a worm gear. You'd always need to support it against the lateral forces developed when the pinion has torque on it (i.e. most cases you'd want a worm gear for anyway).
      Here, the example was made to show the mechanism of the worm gear more than for practicality - you can think of it as a cutaway view. :-)
