Chord progression:
II: Bm7b5 I E7 I Am I Am :II
Then
II: Em7b5 I A7 I Dm I Dm :II
And so forth....
(see the video for each progression as the track goes on)
Scale suggestions:
(For the first 2-5-1 in A minor)
A minor scale - A B C D E F G (A)
(Bmin7b5 chords and Amin7 chords)
A harmonic minor scale - A B C D E F G# (A)
(E7 chords)
Basic arpeggios:
Bmin7b5 arpeggio = B D F A
E7 arpeggio = E G# B D
Am7 arpeggio = A C E G
Next up, try out some more advanced colours on the dominant chord (E7) by treating it as an altered chord and using the altered scale:
E altered scale - E F G Ab Bb C D (E)
The altered scale is the mode which starts on the 7th step of the melodic minor scale, so in other words - the notes of E altered scale are the same as those of the F melodic minor scale :)
....and then repeat in all 12 keys for a proper jazz workout!

I use your 30 minute videos to practice my trumpet, trombone, guitar, upright bass, and electric bass, and even to sing through the chords. I share these videos with a lot of friends via email. I wish, for a beginning students, that you had a I - IV - V7 - I , 30 minute workout in all 12 keys. Also a I - VI7 - II7 - V7 - I ( all major chords) as a 30 minute/all keys workout.
Thank you Quist - I have been practicing these everyday on Piano and its hard work but I'm seeing progress :D
Awesome!!! 🙌
If U can make other in 5th's circles, and another progressions, your backings tracks making me evolution since 2016
As someone once said:
If you have to ask what jazz is, you'll never know.
Anyway with these QuistJams I'm definitely closer...
THANKS

That hat is way cooler then the eye ball hat, haha. Thanks for this! It’s a very effective practice tool!
This makes me think of being in a nice relaxed bar/restaurant. Well done.
Thanks.. enjoy!
Thanks for this! I have a really nerdy comment about the section on Db minor: Ebm7(b5) Ab7 Dbm7 …
it should be the key of C# minor: D#m7(b5) G#7 C#m7
The relative major key of Db minor would be Fb major. That key has 8 flats and features a Bbb (B double flat).
beautiful track... thanks, thanks, and thanks again for all you amazing tracks.
+Nicolas Bethlen thanks - hope they help u lots!
Grazie 1000 Quist utilissimo.
Thanks. Good stuff.
got it! so 2-5-1 is actually same as circle of 5ths backwards from 2 on outer circle! like B-E-A, thats an easy renminder!
+blackscreenproject 👍
thanks for this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pilates for the ears. Very nice music to work with. Thank you!
🙌
for those relaxing moments ... 😌 great. and it's a nice practice just listening to the bass
Awesome!
^YEAH !!!! i like your tracks !!! i want a long one in Eb Minor !!!!! to keep me on going.........
11:29 Fm 14:15 Bbm
I t suddenly occurred to me - - -This video becomes a completely new one, if I wait until the last 2 measures play, then use
them as measures 1&2. For Example, I would play Am -Am-Bbm7-E7 as my 4 measures to practice, with the E7 leading back to the Am, thus a continuous loop, using the Dominant (E7) to restart the loop. Double the fun. Double the thinking.
I've played though this whole cycle several times and what I try to do on some of them is create a line that leads to the new key.
thanks very useful
Nice tone...wow
GENIALLLL
Thanks great
the great Quist... :-)
:) :) Have a great week!

Jazz sounds like potatoes, rolling down stairs.
Please do this for bass!
Sure!
Are the tracks for bass up? thanks!
I really stated that incorrectly, putting the Flat in the wrong place - - the 3rd chord is Bm7b5. Too much hurry to post this idea...
crack!🎸
:)
youtube took my crack away with deleting orion by vital information. musical crack to me.
15:21 whats the key?
+pN Gaming the key is always what the last chord is (for two bars)
QuistJam Thanks!
Key of C major. VII minor seventh flat five, III dominant seventh, VI minor seventh. Scale notes are A B C D E F G sharp. Known as the harmonic minor scale.
A minor is the relative minor of C major. All white keys CDEFGAB is C major. ABCDEFG (same notes) is A aeolian minor. In jazz (and other forms), the flat seventh is raised a half step to the major seventh giving you the A harmonic minor scale.
whats the bpm?
