    I never knew he did the soundtrack for the Italian Job, I'm staggered, that's almost surreal. That movie is so quintessentially English, cockney in essence. I couldn't possibly imagine an American let alone one rooted in Quincy's musical background could have captured that sensibility. I would have thought it must have been done by a composer like Lionel Bart or someone with roots in that old school English London aesthetic. That shows the man was a total genius, no question about it.

    Thanks for paying tribute to the great Q Pete! He was truly a legendary figure in music and will be missed. I think most people of our generation knew him primarily as the producer of Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall and Thriller, but I am a big fan of his jazz and movie soundtrack work. The familiar opening music to the Austin Powers movies was actually a Quincy piece from the sixties called “Soul Bossanova”. He also composed many TV themes, including Ironside and Sanford and Son. RIP Q.

    An icon. I guess I started buying QJ albums around 1976...that year began my Jazz, Fusion, & Funk daze.
    My intro to the Brothers Johnson, like most, was via QJ. They have a nice instrumental called "Q" on their 2nd album. Albums like I HEARD THAT!!, MELLOW MADNESS, WALKING IN SPACE, BODY HEAT...any from that era...chock full of the best sessioneers of that time.

      Surely you’re weren’t truly shocked by the news? Any report of a passing over 80 can’t be “shocking”. Most living folks would be thrilled to live to 91. It’d be a blessing to get to 85+ as long as quality of life didn’t completely degrade. He almost passed 8-10 yrs ago from a stroke (?) so he beat death then. Great doc on him by his daughter btw.
      RIP to a top 5 producer and music master in history.

These two were unstoppable and the records are still untouchable.

      You’re obviously not very knowledgeable of a wide variety of music based on your statement. Quincy Jones was already a legend in the business before MJ. His solo records and his contributions/involvement in Sanford and Son tv show and Fat Albert cartoon made him a household name in the early-mid 70’s. He had 2 Academy Award nominations in 1968. Guy was famous and a household name way before working with MJ.

      @AlexDizzys 27 дней назад +1

      @@webbvandiver9139 Well those 'general public nitwits' made Quincy Jones famous. Cos they made Michael Jackson famous. 'Any music fan' tells me nothing and I can't treat it seriously. Or you mean 'any music fan' is that jazz snob who thinks other generes are primitive and silly. I don't think hard rock fans in the 70's really knew who QJ was. We, metal fans in the 80's were more aware cos you didn't have to be into Jackson's music to know who he was.
