    Loved the review! Was eyeing this as a powder compliment to my already capable yes standard.. just love the features and I personally love the graphic!
    Two questions, would those ‘chakra’ parts in the nose and tail be more prone to damage? Is there material in there or just hollowed out and air pockets?
    And second, do you helmet mount your cam like directly on top the helmet or slightly twoard forehead? I wanna use that mount with my insta360 but worry about it pulling my helmet forward or the weight feeling wierd.
    TY

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +4

      That would be a good 2 board quiver and the PYL Uninc would be floatier for pow as well as give you a different approach to groomer riding with better carves than your standard.
      Good questions!
      I don't know exactly what is in there and not sure about the little windows in the middle. The big window in the nose might be hollow but the tail is not. My 157 seems very well built and I'm not worried but I can't speak to long term reliability after only riding it several days. I might be able to mid winter but not now.
      I mount my insta360 almost middle helmet and its just a touch closer towards my goggles. I tried it on the front by my goggles and it didn't come out as well when its centered or almost centered. It also feels better when riding. It still sucks to have a dildo cam on your head but it is better than holding a stick.

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +3

      Thanks! Two boards that look similar but act very different. Kazu has a tapered directional look but almost feels like a centered mountain freestyle ride. PYL Uninc feels like a board with a lot of taper and it has a lot of taper 15mm. It is more like a true freeride board. For East Coast I would go PYL Uninc as it grips really well in hard to icy snow. I would go Kazu only if you want that tapered mountain freestyle twinish kind of feel. Thank you for your reviews! How do you feel about your PYL uninc vs Orca? My home mountain is Crystal, WA so want something that can take heavier powder but nimble enough to navigate the chop and moguls in the afternoon (and groomers when it hasn't snowed in a while). Currently riding the 2011 T rice Pro 161.5 which I love, but looking for something that can be more laid back when my legs start to get tired. I am guessing some of lib techs hybrids have improved since then...I am going to demo the orca (I'm super used to the CRC profile w/ magnetraction) but they don't carry YES. Anything comparable in the Jones/Libtech/Gnu/Capita/Arbor/Rossi lineup that would be most similar to get an idea of how the PYL uninc profile rides?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +1

      Two pretty different boards. Don't know your specs (boot size, weight & Height) or ability level so hard to get a real idea of your take on the 161.5 pointy. The Orca might work really well for you since you are already used to T.Rice. It has a much more turny/set back ride compared to the Pointy you had. The PYL Uninc isn't as set back but it has similar taper and grip. It feels very stable like the Rossi XV and most Jones boards but doesn't have the spoon noses Jones has. Both accomplish the same thing you want but in a different way. If you want real advice hit me up here thegoodride.com/snowboard-binding-and-boot-advice/

    Hi! How would would you say the PYL Uninc compares to the Hometown Hero? I really like the Hometown Hero and how versatile it is for riding different types of terrain, but the lack of edgehold on icy snow (which I often see unfortunately) makes me consider replacing it.

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +2

      This is a much better option for hard to icy snow. It will feel similar only more tapered than the Hometown Hero. If it works with your specs go for it.

  • @AnotherDaveInParadise
    @AnotherDaveInParadise Год назад +1

    According to Yes both PYL's have the same flex rating of 8/10, the same core (minus the 'chakra windows') and triax glass, so is the stiffer flex of the Uninc purely down to the added girth and therefore more wood? Thinking of getting the 155 as an all mountain one board quivver, and being about 15lbs over the recommended weight am hoping it'll be a bit more playful/flexy for those times I want to be a bit lazy. Or will it be a stiff ass death plank? I'm in US10 boots and Falcor bindings.

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +2

      Flexes can vary from board to board but I will say the 2023 YES PYL demo we had was a good bit softer compared to the PYL Uninc. The PYL Uninc wasn't super stiff either. So I'm guessing your 195 and a US 10? you might want to go 157 or 159 depending on your height? Neither size should feel like a plank.

    Hi. How is this board compared to the k2 alchemist. Is there a lot of overlap with this 2 board? And if you have to pick 1 for hard charging and carving on east coast groomers which 1 would it be? Thanks for the reviews. And is there a alchemist review coming?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +2

      They are 2 different boards. I would choose the PYL Uninc only because it has more grip for the hard to icy snow you often see out east. If it was out West with most resorts out here it would be the Alchemist for hard charging/straight lining as it is a stiffer board that likes to go straight better than the PYL Uninc. If you want a more turny board that likes to circle carve and across the groomer carve better go PYL uninc. I also like the PYL Uninc a little better for pow but both are pretty good there.

    Hey James, thanks for these reviews - I am a huge fan!
    I am 176cm (~ 5’9 to 5’10), weigh 72kg (158 lb), with size 7.5 feet.
    I am currently riding the Kilroy 3D 2021 in 155, and felt like turn initiation was slow and my edges were not holding. I recently rode my friend’s Never Summer Proto Type 2 in 151, and it was a game changer: my turns were much quicker and my edges were holding really well on the steeps.
    I am looking for an all mountain/freeride board and have a couple of questions for you: 1) would you recommend the PYL UnInc in 155 or would be the board be too big? I notice that the recommended foot size for that starts at a 9, 2) how does the PYL UnInc in 155 compare to the a) Kilroy 3D in 155 and the b) Never Summer Proto Type 2 in 151, and 3) if not the PYL UnInc, do you have any other favorites to recommend (I'm looking at the Lib Tech Lib Rig and the Yes Basic Uninc)?
    Thanks for all the help here!!

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад

      Many thanks! Yeah the Kilroy 3D is very wide for 7.5 boots so it should feel really slow for your specs. When you buy a board moving forward it should always be about what fits your boot size first and everything else a distant second. So no on the PYL Uninc 155 (too wide). No on the Proto Type Two just because it is a mountain freestyle twin you can't set back. Also it's discontinued. The Proto Synthesis can't be set back much or at all in pow. Yes Basic Uninc 152- Yes this will be a great choice and if you have full size discs you can use the set back inserts in pow and get much easier float. I wish the NS Proto Synthesis had set back inserts too. Lib Rig could work too if you want something much more directional. I will mainly use it for freeriding on sporadic trip to the Alps and on in Sweden. @@thegoodridesnow Thanks for the response, I will size down the Std Uninc from 56 to 53 mainly because I want something more playful and agile for the small mountains of Sweden and because I have other dedicated pow and freestyle boards. • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +1

      The pyl uninc is very different than the custom and has alot of taper so you ride a wider waist width and nose but the tail is narrower so it turns easier than youd think for the waist width. That bein said, size 8 isnt as ideal for your weight and height with this board. If your primarily riding the pyl uninc in powder go with the 57. If your going to ride alot of groomers, go with the regular 59 pyl

Currently on a 157 K2 HH from 2016, and my home mountain is Brighton. As you know, it's a relatively low angle mountain but it has its pitches and I want this board for the steep & deep performance you tout in your review, as well as the lower angle trees. • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the good words. Yeah tough call. They are making it next year so a 157 might be worth waiting for if you want a bigger ride. The 157 for sure worked better for me vs. the 155 and 159 but I'm 20+ lbs heavier than you. The 155 could easily work for your weight. Both will work for size 10's. I've never been to Brighton so hard to say which would be better for your terrain. I would say if it's mostly for pow go 157. If you are going to ride groomers and hit steep terrain more in pow the 155 could work too. Here's the thing though. Both sizes will be a lot better than the Happy Hour and provide much more float. This is just a guess but I think the 155 will have more surface area than your 157 HH.

Last question before I pull the trigger, and I know it's pretty specific so no worries if you can't answer it: the Happy Hour absolutely destroys chunder, bumps, moguls, whatever. Very different turning experiences. The Berzerker has a very deep turny sidecut that almost fights you if you want to go straight. It can be very hooky. The PYL Uninc is very turny but not as turny as the Berzerker and not as hooky. Some absolutely love the Berzerkers turning experience and some love the PYL Uninc style of sidecut more. Both spring out of the turn quite well and carve really hard. If you want to circle carve the Berzerker has the edge but the PYL Uninc is more balanced for all types of carves.

    Which floats better in powder: PYL Uninc or Cardiff Crane for all mountain freestyle? If you had to pick one as a one-board-quiver that can hit everything and still have pop for side hits, which would you choose?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад

      So do you mean riding powder more centered on board so you can ride switch a lot? If so I would go with the Crane. If you want more set back directional float the PYL Uninc will be better but it's going to still float better nose first riding on reference stance vs. the Crane. It just won't ride switch as well in powder due to the taper and much different shaped tail.

    • @em3824
      @em3824 Год назад +1

      @@thegoodridesnow Great point, and I appreciate the nuanced answer! I ride switch infrequently, so the better float of the PYL Uninc would be of greater value.
      For a capable high-level rider who charges steeps and trees (B.C. and Montana), but still wants to play on side-hits and keep control on ice, do think a 159 PYL Uninc would be too much of a plank for a 5'11" 170lb size 9.5 boot rider, vs the 157?
      I sometimes wish my Capita Mercury was a 159 instead of a 157 for better float and more effective edge, and wonder if I'd similarly be looking for more length on a 157 PYL Uninc (while understanding that they're very different boards)

If the 157 was easy for you to turn and control in tight spots then you can handle either the 157 or 159 PYL Uninc. One thing though. The PYL Uninc floats much much better than the Mercury and has much better grip so you get more out of each size.

    Hey James, I’m trying to decide between the pyl and pyl uninc. Coming off a skeleton key 158. I’m 170lbs 5’8 and size 9 boot. I like larger boards for sure. Never had any issue with turning on the skeleton key 158. I stay mostly in trees and bomb groomers. Only issue I had with the skeleton key was it gets bounced around in that bottom of the mountain ripped up snow when I’m bombing down. Pyl I can pick up a 159 now the uninc is sold out so would have to wait till next season and I figure that should be a 157/159? I do prefer the larger boards. What you think? Get the pyl or wait for the uninc and if so which size.

      Yeah the Uninc 159 could for sure work then. I think it will be a little better than the SK but not sure if it's going to be a chunder buster for ya. It is a great board and a nice change up from the SK. Has a very tapered feel in comparison though. If you want to get into it more hit me here to give me the info I need to help you much better. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/

      YES doesn't make a lot of boards every season and they otten sell out quickly each year.

    Hello, I’m French and I’m not sure what does it means when you say « you have to put more on your back foot to not get washed ». Can you please explain ? Does it mean you want your stance to be set a little more back as a reference point even for groomer ? Does « washed » mean lack of edge grip ? Thanks for clarifying !

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  2 месяца назад

      Your english is a hell of a lot better than my french ;-) Some tapered (nose wider than the tail) need more back foot weight on a harder turn/carve to keep the tail from washing out on groomers. It's not about edge grip as much as how to weight the turn.

      @@thegoodridesnow would you say it’s a dealbreaker or it’s only something you easily get used to on the first few days of riding ?
      Would you say setting a bit back the stance at first would help make it easier with that back foot weight needs to get used to it ?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  2 месяца назад

      Something you get used to. Depends on the board but usually more back foot weight is better than setting back the stance.

      @@thegoodridesnow I got 155 uninc pyl cheap as it’s the end of the season so I’ll understand next season what you mean better when I’ll get to try it. I’ll probably match it with some nitro phantom + bindings and nitro team boots :) hope everything will match together and that it won’t make the whole set up too stiff to ride.
