Hello from Greece. Well things are not so simple after todays tremors. There was a meeting of scientists with the ministry to understand what is going on and inform people. It seems that kolumbo is waking up (magma intrusion),not worried about an eruption soon, but it might triggered the Amorgos fault line. So everyday we have earthquakes higher than the day before. Yesterday for example there were earthquakes between 3 and 3.9 and today we had 4.1 and 4.4 Amorgos in the past, produced one of the bigger earthquakes in Greece, with a magnitude of 7,7 in 1956 and an aftershock of 7,1.It produced a tsunami of 30 meters high on the soars of Santorini, Amorgos and the islands close to them. Look it up. Thanks for the video and the info.
Very interesting. I'd definitely be anxious if I had a trip to Santorini planned for the near future. I just ran across an article about an unidentified eruption that caused global cooling circa 3900 BCE. I'd love to hear from you about this.
They keep on going, as they have been doing the last about 3 days. Tomorrow schools will be closed in the island of Santorini, and any gatherings inside of any building are not recommended.
Are the tremors magma pushing apart the rock. Are the tremors rockfalls inside the magma chamber as it moves up. I would kinda expect the top of the magma chamber to be filled with super heated gasses. Are the tremors harmonic where a steam kettle effect is happening causing a whistling as super heated gasses are flowing to low spots. Or the superheated gasses expanding causing movements. Do steam geysers make Soundwaves as the water starts to boil then erupts. Do geysers make different sounds when empty. what makes me ask these questions is a segment from the end of the Nova episode mt st Helen's awakes or something like that where researchers in San Diego noted long term harmonics and then they noted them on a volcano in Alaska that got quiet. They called the Alaska volcanoes to say look at Mt. We can't talk it just erupted.
Hey Timothy, any updates on how full the Reykjanes magma chamber / dikes are getting? Some videos elsewhere are already getting dramatic by implying they're getting close to popping again.
Its estimated to be capable of erupting because it has hit its baseline for last eruption, however with the storms in the area, instruments are not reporting correctly so its uncertain if inflation is continuing. Estimates are "between Feb/early march".
@@Dranzerk8908 Thank you. I also understood from before that with each eruption event, the underground structures are permanently "stretched" a little more each time, resulting in larger quantities of magma to reach new, higher baselines.
The range associated with Kolombo made me think of hotspots. That made me wonder, what happens when an area of volcanoes that formed due to continents colliding moves over a hotspot? Does the hotspot reduce the activity in the area, or does it combine to make for more active volcanoes?
It has to have happened in the past. The fact that I've never heard it discussed would lead me to assume that it's not exactly e-vent-ful 😁 but I would still find a breakdown of the interaction interesting
Love your updates. This could be followed up by what is happening at the C.F. volcano under Naples plus an explanation of how subduction faults create volcanoes. Also an explanation/speculation regarding if a subduction quake could trigger eruptions of these already restless volcanoes in the region (my understanding the faults in this area are subductive or what ever the term is). Thanks for all you do to further education. Cheers!

Thank you for this little update on the recent developments! I hope everything turns out fine...
Thanks for addressing Kolombo vs Santorini. That was the exact question I had going into this video.
Just this afternoon I mentioned that I hadn't seen any volcano news for a few days. Sorry, everyone.
That’s big of you to admit your fault, I believe that entitles you to tar heated a little less and your choice of feather color. 😂
@@rjmarmaro Did they admit to a thrust or strike-slip fault?
Thanks for all the hard work on these videos!
2:06 insert middle school humor. 😅
I saw that, but decided not to say it 🤣🤣
A little South Park humor, perhaps? 😅
Only lasted 3 seconds.
So, very realistic.
@@outlawbillionairez9780 Three seconds? That much?
Thank you for saying what we are all thinking
😂😂❤
Cool . Cheers Timothy
At 2:06, looked like a certain somebody altered a map with a sharpie again.😮
Thanks as always, Geology Hub!

Never seen so much activity in a 24 hour that’s crazy
Thera is actually short for therasia which is really interesting
Thank you for the update.
You are awesome, man. I love your update videos.
where can we see a map of the lava camber and plumbing under santorini?
How many times was tremor detected? Were those one of events or are they continuing?

@sariannanikkola8700 wow, they are closing schools.

Love Santorini and walked the cone in 100F heat. Travelers should make it a point to not go fishing over Kolumbo.
👍❤🌼💜✌️
Santorini
Great video as always!
From New Zealand - "Kalimera" to those in Greece!.
Is the inner BLOB surfacing on the opposite sides of our planet ?
Ummm...what?
Thanks for the update. I hoped, that you will cover this events. 🌋
I apologize for my response to a comment 😂 seriously great program and would love updates
Un susceso que esta sucediendo en México.
