Omg I said 54mph as a guess on the first 3s run n then u said 54mph n u had me laughing n feeling lucky I picked the right guess, maybe I’ll play the lotto today, now I’m feeling lucky 😂
too funny! Sometimes I guess the speed out loud on camera and then get it right and then delete my guess as nobody would believe me. I've done so many I can get a feel for 'that's not 30' etc. I think it's got a little more to come. My huge C pack that I try to use for speed runs won't fit though as it's too long!
i guessed 55. Traxxas' numbers are bit inflated and generous imo. It's like the best possible conditions, best possible speedrun doing it voer and over. I figured 55-60 was more reasonable than 65+
With my 4x4 rustler with castle sidewinder 3 and castle 4600kv I hit 61 mph and I hit 64 mph with sidewinder 3 esc and used my velineon 3500kv motor both 20t pinion 56t spur so with 20/54 gearing I would definitely say around 66-68mph and I used traxxas 5000mah 25c battery I know I can pass 70 mph with 21/52 gearing and I'm gonna use traxxas 8400mah battery maybe try a battery with 50c discharge
That math doesn't add up. You should be taking kV rating and multiplying that by your batteries voltage. That'll give you peak shaft RPM assuming an unrestricted delivery of power. Find the gear ratios of your direct gearing and differentials, dividing your motors RPM by the ratios until you get to your driven axle. This will give you the maximum RPM at the hubs. Since the distance traveled per rotation is the circumference of the wheels, it can be multiplied by the hub RPM to give you approximate speed.
i do 74mph on 2 weel. 4 way to get there. Tire talon extreme, tqi bleutooth and boost the electronic program whit the application. change gear yes but also the diffential and get extreme rigidity mosly im back and the Slash arms will do that in no time and also crazy stiff suspention. 3s 5200, 54t-17t, 2.93 diffential ratio. I sppek french buy the way and that why my engrish is so bad🤣✌️
They felt smooth until under braking, the car pitches forwards very hard, indeed you can stand it on the front wheels without any trouble, the tires grip a lot, it's not bad at all at speed it holds it's line well. Although for my speed run setup on the 4tec I have the steering dialed right down but that means fitting the bluetooth module. Which I may or may not do.
Traxxas quote in the manual a 25T running with a 50T spur, however this is listed under 'fits, not recommended' sure you could squeeze higher in by playing around with it.
Thanks. I think you'll like it. I'm going to set it up for blacktop as the suspensions still set for off road, it runs super stable (and tires don't balloon badly compared to some cars at 60) however it gets hairy under braking, which it does very well BTW, and I think a change to a road setup will help. Motor warm though so I may invest in fan. Also front driveshaft has come adrift somewhere....
You may lose a bit due to resistance etc but not that you'd say, 'wow that's running slower today', you notice the heat build up in the connector /adapter more than any difference in speed. One day I'll get around to trying out the same car and battery with different connectors. It'd be a labor of love to prep and film though!
you should try a 4 tec rally conversion. just raise the suspension by cutting off parts of the chassis, give it some 1/16 2.2" off road tires, and a Stampede body.
Henry I've it setup to run on 4S and I'll be doing that as soon as I've got the weights to go in the front sorted. I won't be trying it on 22 as it takes soooooooo long to get up to speed on 20T it's untrue, the acceleration is probably half what it is on the stock pinion.
I have to say running it with the stock gear is what I switched back to straight after this, it's far more fun on the stock pinion! Huge mid range tails off when you fit the speed gearing! I miss mine a lot to be honest, I do wonder though whether we'll see a 4S version this year? What do you think?
I would say not, even with my castle setup it doesn't feel 100% happy, 14T seems to be on the money. With the stock velineon motor that 17T pinion is advised for smooth surfaces only e.g not off road bashing. Hope that helps.
Great run Richie 👍👍. I'd like to see how motor temps are with the higher gearing after a longer run. That's one thing I like about the granite I decided to go with. It's 50 mph out the box on 3s and runs super cool. Can definitely safely up the pinion and get up to 60 and safe motor temps. I really would like to get this truck but I just hate traxxas's business practices and how they seem to be the bully of the industry. Someone told me their local hobby was told by traxxas that they can only sell traxxas products or no traxxas at all. I'm gonna talk to my lhs but if that is true then that couldn't look any worse for them. Guess time will tell. I just don't like giving them my hard earned money with some of the things they do. But this truck does look nice.

What are you charging your batteries at? If you have a 5000 mah battery you can charge it at 5 amps. This will give you more tourque and help the motor to wind out with that taller gearing.
What amps you charge at has nothing to do with the batteries ability to deliver power. Higher amp charging only shortens charge times and possible wear to the battery cells. The ending voltage and cell health is what matters.
