Their ancestors were a racial minority who were blamed for the "degeneration" of elven culture, forced to fight as disposable bodies against chaos while the Asur sat back and watched, their gods betrayed them and no longer looks after their souls. Poor elf cant have a break. And to top it all off, he probably spends every day since he met Felix fighting the hordes of hell thinking, " this is all part of some great plan by the gods to grow and harvest us for some unknown purpose, like a gardener watering and harvesting his crops."

you missed some noteworthy lore cons about the high elves - namely, that they are rotting from the inside.
lothern is one of the most majestic and beautiful cities in the warhammer world, yet outside of the bustling mercantile foreign quarter, it is a derelict ghost town. it's filled with abandoned manors and condemned buildings. the inner kingdoms are being gnawed away by pleasure cults, as those safe behind the annuli mountains ignore the plight and degradation of the outside world to drink, love, and fall prey to hedonistic desire. hell, in the tyrion/teclis books, there are conversations with nobles in lothern who advocate for the exact same kind of cold-blooded predation that the druchii live by.
those within the outer kingdoms are practically nonexistant - yvresse is a ghost kingdom that has never recovered from the desolation of grom. cothique was an underground kingdom that was flooded ages ago. chrace is constantly beset by druchii, who wage a geurilla war in the woods, and must constantly deal with the corrupted beasts from high within the annuli mountains. half of tiranoc ceased to exist during the sundering, and the only ones who remain are those who lived in the foothills of the annuli. nagarythe is a barren wasteland, where every single person who still lives there being a shadow warrior who has more in common with the druchii they hunt than other high elves. all of these outer kingdoms are beset yearly by norscan raiders and dark elf murder warbands. and, in all of these outer kingdoms, more and more people leave their dismal life for the inner kingdoms, falling into the comfortable degenerate idyll that it promises. those who have the power to change things don't care enough to see that things need to change - and those who see that things need to change are so beleaguered and battered that they cannot do anything but survive.
tyrion, teclis, and finubar are so noteworthy and heroic because they are among the extremely few asur who are both capable of doing good outside of their small bubble (unlike the outer kingdoms) and who have not succumbed to out-of-touch lethargy (unlike the inner kingdoms). they are a shining example of who the high elves used to be, and who maybe - just maybe - they can go back to being once again.

Posts like these make me really angry with the way Fantasy Warhammer was handled. Fuck the end times and fuck Age of Sigmar. Why couldnt Games Workshop do something the likes of 40k's Abadon's with his crusade and Great Rift to the Fantasy? Give as some major character's deaths, some huge events that change landscape of the world in some major way. Advance world's history. Give more suffering, but also hope and the possible way to defeat chaos and restore the order. Break overall status quo and start a new age. Mb even with some new faction.
Instead those idiots just murdered whole setting for the likes of AoS with its Sigmarins...

There was a belief in Ancient China that out there were items which could let you achieve immortality. This was a fairly substantial belief of Daoism that people gave considerable weight to. In particular there was a conception that you could produce a potion of immortality that would let you live forever. China's first Emperor, Qin Shi Huangdi looked into this a lot and attempted to stave off the Grim Reaper by (among other things) consuming powdered Jade and Mercury. Doing so drove the guy crazy in his latter years before his death. But the death of one Emperor was not enough to kill interest in the idea. During the Han Dynasty subcultures emerged based on the legends of the immortals, as did a tradition of alchemy to produce Potions of Immortality. Mostly their efforts produced Potions of Mortality.
Even so, this did mean that Chinese Alchemists did by trial and error work out a fair number of properties of a lot of materials both mineral and biotic in origin as well as means and methods such as distillation. In praticular in the Tang Dynasty (618 to 907) Alchemists discovered that a mixture of ground up charcoal, sulphur, honey and bat guano would burn briefly and intensely. This was published and experimented with, with the honey being removed. Even so during the Song Dynasty (960 to 1279) the applications of this concoction would be known.
It stared out with tubes of bamboo attached to spears with string and sealed off at the back, save for a small hole. These were filled with a mixture of this volatile powder and pebbles. When a force of cavalry charged, a burning wick would be applied to the vent and the object would be set off, shooting a blast of fire, smoke and stones very fast. This would scare horses and men charging in as well as pelt them with high speed projectiles. It was a cheap way to bolster the performance of spearmen and was known as the firelance. Such weapons were used to build the Song Dynasty, but they would come into their own in the attempts to save it.
From 1205 to 1279, the Mongols invaded China. First conquering the breakaway Jin Dynasty and then pushing southwards. Few things could stand against these fierce horsemen, so the Song threw everything they had at the problem. Their artisans made Rockets to rain down on the Mongols, bombs of bamboo and cast iron to blow them up and refined the Firelance. Instead of making them out of bamboo which would only last one shot they started making bronze and iron versions, both man sized and larger ones. These were more accurate, hit harder and could be fired repeatedly. Unfortunately despite holding out for 74 years the Song Dynasty was eventually over-run by the Mongols. By which point the Mongols began fielding their own Handgonnes and Cannons. Even so, their rule would be short lived. Not long afterwards the Chinese rose up in the Red Turban Rebellion and kicked the Mongols out. In no small part the Rebels succeed through innovatie use of black powder weapons against the Mongols.

Mine was a strange, strange Mazdamundi.
I didn't even know how strange it was at first, until much later.
Malekith did the like, thing, he can do with the Shrine of Asuryan, force a military alliance or vassal or something all high Elf factions, and did this quite early, so the entire northern part of the map was just genocidal Elves trying to kill everybody.
I didn't know better, so kept nursing and protecting the Empire guy right there instead of just flattening him, as he occasionally kamikazed tiny stacks of swordsmen into things.
I don't know what he was doing, but Gor-Rok apparently gobbled up the entirety of Lustria, so pushed north, and declared war on me, too.
So it was just Malekith and all the high Elves, versus Gor Rok, with me in the middle.
I actually won the campaign though. Didn't know what I was doing, but kept spamming dinosaurs, and at some point figured out that enemies on walls or in combat won't dodge the Comet of Cassendora, so clawed my way through. Finubar is a great pick honestly. He's definitely one of the more chill and relaxed characters in the setting. That said, I think I'm gonna go with Teclis if we're limited to who we see in-game. He's the least likely to toy with me, he's a bookworm, and he has a kind and caring disposition. That alone catapults him above 99.99% of every other character in all three settings (Fantasy, 40K, and Age of Sigmar).

True that with the names though. Tiranoc, Saphery, Lothern, Avelorn...all beautifully classic sounding fantasy names that are very well chosen for a mythical, idyllic fantasy realm. You almost want to roll your eyes at how fantasy they sound...but at the same time you'd love to go there. Instead you're stuck working a 12 on 12 off job in the foundries of Nuln or something

4:27 I think the dwarves declined more than the elves after the war of vengence or the war between elves and dwarves. dwarves suffered from large casualties, lost of technology, karaks and especially rune crafts, they dont know how to make anvil of dooms and runic golems anymore. Unlike the high elf who only suffered from population lost, which is indeed a bigdeal for the elves since they reproduce slow, but compare to dwarves, there are no records that they lost magic tomes, technology etc. And btw they only lost colonoies not vital kingdoms Everything about elves a thousand years ago since the age aenarion is still intact to the present day. Dawis on the other hand, majority of whatever legacy thought to them by their ancestor gods was lost.

They also give him permanent buffs and stuff, so with Imrik you're usually running around with 1 super OP dragon and heavy cav army and a bunch of cheap spear and arrow armies.

Unlike in a lot of fantasy settings (cough cough Altmer) the High Elves in Warhammer earned their arrogance. Saving the world from Chaos multiple times, constantly coming out on top over the Dark Elves, possessing the world's greatest navy with colonies on every continent, working towards more cooperation between the nations of the Old World through trade and diplomacy, and overall having the most stable and sane society as Warhammer goes, they deserve to be a little snobbish.

The High Elves were the first campaign I finished in the Total War: Warhammer series. (I played a bit of Warhammer I, but wasn't that big of a fan for some reason and got distracted with other games). They will always have a place in my heart because that, enjoy elves in fantasy settings (but not as much as Mr. Pancreasnowork) and they manage to check every box I want in a high elf faction. And the ranged units are just so fun to use, considering how annoying rifle units can be sometimes with their obstruction issues the archer units are just pure experts ala Lord of the Rings efficiency. It almost feels like playing Empire sometimes with their ranged efficiency. Then the sword masters of Hoeth just giving you that blade mastery feel you want, flowing like water on the battlefield.
Even their basic units of spearmen and archers are excellent and can win you a lot of battles on their own. And don't even get me started on my love for dragons and phoenix, just bombarding the enemy with fiery bombs and breath attacks.
