Abandoned Cadillac First Wash In 20 Years! - Vice Grip Garage EP75
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 фев 2025
- Betty White, the forgotten Cadillac Sedan Deville sat in a field for 20 years. Some of those years thankfully it was tarped, but it still took on a lot of weather. The old battleship shows mud, sand, needles, moss & mold. Watch this unbelievable transformation as I pressure was it for the first time in two decades! I'll also give you an update as to what we're thinking about doing with this old battleship.

Guy had plans today to change the oil in the ole' Ram 1500 so I did the right thing and watched an old Caddy get pressure washed instead. Guy feels good about the decision.
It's fine.
Be like this guy.
I just spent 22 minutes watching a guy wash a car. Apparently, I have nothing important to do. Something may be wrong with me, I don't know.
It’s fine just top her off
A feller can get flat WORE out watchin The Bearded One wash his caddy... Gettin a cold snack, needin??
That classic needs to stay classy. I vote restore it. It's such a good starting point, I think this is the one for you to embrace the shiny.
Agreed, watching the first video I figured it was gonna be so far gone underneath it would come out of that field in pieces, that car wants to LIVE, give it a second chance! :)
Frame off. It's worth it!
@@mbritton1984 Woah slow down there
I'd like to see the old girl nursed back to the point where she is neat and tidy but still shows some of that heritage. Leave the outside, sort the interior, mechanicalickles, some sweet wheels, and air ride to slam it down on command. Nothing disrespectful or irreversible though.
@@sikkpuppy1968 Yup, a real good cleanup and redo of the worst parts will be the best bang 4 buck
My advice: Restore it. There are so few left and they're SO classy and beautiful when in top condition. It's already such a generally good candidate to start with.
I think it'd be a crime to try to turn it into a hot rod or a lowrider or do anything BUT restore it.
I'm gonna have to go ahead and agree with a guy here.
Yed true I agree
👍
Agreed. She doesn’t look like a guy needs to go broke entertaining her.
Ima have have to disagree but also agree with a guy here hotrod er motor and fix er shell
My grandmother put in those headlights :-) She worked on the line for Cadillac for nearly 20 years in Detroit until 1978. That was her sole job, putting in headlights all day.
Bless her heart. My late first wife and I honeymooned in a 78 coupe named after my grandmother, Adeline.
I think it deserves metal work & a new top,
She’s survived this long!
I usually dont take youtube very seriously when it recomends me videos, but i watched the first video about this cadillac and loved every minute. Now it's over a week later and i've seen probably all of your videos. I love this old Cadillac, thank you for doing more with her.
Take a look to the Channel: "Zip ties and bias plies"
My dad worked at Cadillac from 1942-1977. I love those land yachts. I say keep original q-jet but true duals with flowmasters. Definitely replace the vinyl top.
Nice. Maybe he worked on my 72 Fleetwood. I miss that car.
Our parents must have worked together, Hamtramck?known for caddy's and Polish Kiełbasa.
My dad worked at the Clark Street plant in Detroit
There's just something so satisfying about watching a dirty car get pressure washed. Jessica definitely needs to be in more of your videos. She's a nice break from the grizzly bear look. Lol!
I like seeing Jessica in the episodes. Reminds me of Me and my wife when we were younger working on our cars.. And she makes You look you know...not so Weird.
Yeah, that wife is kinda out of his league, so she must like his sense of humor.
@@donellmuniz590 No way she's outta his league r u blind?
@@donellmuniz590 You apparently didn't see him drive that big Cadillac out of the lower 40. A girl likes that kind of thing.
Donell Muniz what’re you talking about.. definitely not out of his league..
You sir, are gone .. 👋
I'm jealous. This is my favorite car out of all the rescues you've done.
Mine to.
Mine also I used to do some work for an old man he had a 1970 Coupe DeVille that baby was mint love those cars he let me take it and blow it out on the highway when I was 16 years old
You know a guy has something special when he is able to keep me enthralled for 20 minutes while watching him wash a car...
Next thing you know he'll be having me watch paint dry..grass grow..
Crazy stuff
Lol i know strange huh
Vice Grip Garage presents.... Paint Drying ASMR... next week.. Vice Grip Garage presents Grass Growing ASMR
For me, it was watching the surface rust go away. He kept that for last. A video directing masterpiece
Hahaha 4 years later and I have watched him watch paint dry and grow grass.
I love Betty White. She's got a nice 472 motor, sturdy as a tank. I like it.
That poor car hasn't seen love like that in a long time! Definitely a nice save!
I can't believe how nice that paint still was under all of that! This was really satisfying to watch.
New paint just isn’t the same. Especially with all the water based stuff they’re starting to use. Just doesn’t last
@@jackcaldwell5905 If I'm not mistaken, this Caddy's from before clear coat was widely used on cars. Wasn't clear coat started en masse some time in the early 80s?
@@jackcaldwell5905 paint lasts way longer than it used to
@@chrishuber8930 . Not after 20 years under the hot sun. Pure bullshit. You people must not know anything about cars if you think any of this is possible.
@@MrSupernova111 actually it is possible if it was an aftermarket paint job. Yes there is no way its been sitting outside for 20 years.....id say maybe 2 or 3 max. Although its very playsible that car hasnt had a good wash in thay amount of time.
"it's hotter than a stolen set of 24s"😂😂. Love the channel. Been subscribed for quite a while now. Keep it up and keep it factree.
Beautiful car, beautiful family and a man with a sense of humor. You are blessed sir. Take care! 👌
I Absolutely love how you get the family involved. Thank you Derek for taking my mind off all the crazy going on in the world right now. A Fan from South Africa.
Howzit? I visited Durban and KZN once. I loved it.
Great to see the Caddy getting a bit of love. Hopefully, she'll never see a field again! Great work, guys.
For the exhaust I’d recommend
2 1/2 dual with cross over and delta 50 flow masters. I’ve had 3 Oldsmobile 98’s with this set up, 1969 and 1970’s with the 455. It’s a similar engine and the sound was amazing. Nice and deep at idle, not at all loud and droning on the highway but BRINGS THE THUNDER when you feed her the onions. Lol. You we definitely be pleased.
"when you feed her the onions" should be a shirt.
Don't make the mistake of going with a huge exhaust system. I agree 2.5" is good, even 2" is fine. Don't go with a 3" or larger
@@castirondude 3" is nice with a single exhaust! But yeah 2.5" for dual!
@@austinaubinoe I put a 3" single on my 1959 Edsel with (retrofitted) 460. It sounds kind of droney hollow. I would stick with a 2.5" single or 2" dual if I were to do it again.
We had a 70 Olds 98. 455 Rocket with a carter 4 barrel. Such a smooth ride. Good top end on the highway too.
That’s so satisfying watching the power washer clean all that mold out. She looks real good.
Ram
Clean, paint it, and enjoy it stock as a rock! One hardly ever sees these old land yachts in their former glory, anymore! Super classy ride!
Your gonna bring the old girl back to life and I'm gonna watch every step of the way.
you're* Stay in school, kid.
As good as that body looks and how sweet the engine sounds now that old Caddy deserves a new top!! Love the white interior.
A good buff and wax and it'll be slicker than a squirrel sliding down a bird feeder pole.
Derek, you are not only educational, but incredibly entertaining for being an automobile “Miracle Worker”!! A guy is VERY happy to have stumbled upon your station.
Dam fine caddy
She's a keeper looking forward to the next episode
Great to get the kid's involved 👍
Cheers 🍻 from Germany 🇩🇪
So glad to see the family helping. That's making memories my friend. Thanks for making the video. Please don't put cheap glass packs on it. Put something with a nice deep rumble
I remember vinyl tops years ago. When they got in the condition of that one there were lots of issues under them. Lots of rust to deal with. One fix was to remove it, deal with the rust and then paint it.
They're like sunroofs - great idea when the car's new.
@@saddoncarrs6963 I hate sunroofs: just a leak waiting to happen.
Sunroof isnt so bad if you look after it, but most people will just have a clogged sunroof drain for 15 years and never even notice.
Or you could just ignore it and deal with the smell after it rains
This Princess of a Caddy has found you. I hope you keep her . I can hear her purrrrring when I watch this video. She love ya. Cheers
You have a nice family, enjoy seeing everyone involved!
Re do the roof. I had my 79 Continental’s roof Redone and it looks great. More videos on the old girl please!
Pressure washing videos are so satisfying to watch!
It really is! Thanks for watching

It’s why they invented the RUclipss!
I thought the same thing, the guy only washes the car for 20 minutes ... and that's magic hahaha what's wrong with us.
@@ViceGripGarage whats the brand of that power washer and price Derek? Please and thank you.
I know I'm very late in watching these Caddy episodes but I hope you have given her all the love she deserves. I'd love to see a complete restoration or at least something close to it. Again, maybe you already did that and I just need to catch up on what has already been done. You make me want to own one of these sleds and I've really never been into Cadillacs before seeing what you've done with her!
Its a GM but Cadillac builds in diffent quirks you gotta sort out.
I'd definitely restore it, or at least fix all the rust and put a new top on and make it a really nice cruiser. It's way too nice to leave it or chop it or whatever, it's such a good candidate for a restoration project that to not at least externally restore it would be a waste. Great work on the video and best of luck to ya there.
Yup
My favorite part was watching him drive that caddy out of the field! Not to mention having a cold one on the way home! It only gets better with the car wash video! If you ever get to L.A. my house is your house man.

Love the Caddy!!!
Oh yeah

"You can't see that when everything looks like the Titanic you know..." More epic stuff. Keep 'em comming! :-)
It just kills my innards when a feller power washes the interior! There is something inside that says "I don't know".
Sounds like you might need a psychiatric reverberation moment.
I still think you ought to “bring ‘er back around!” Caddy deserves a mild restore, she needs to be fully road worthy and a little more car show worthy!
That car is so long it has a Minnesota plate on the front and an Iowa plate on the back
lol
LMFAOWOIFY!
If you had to buy tags for the cheeks of your ass, my ex would have had the same kinds of plates!

You can put a Prius in the trunk as a spare in case it breaks down.

Duals would be reallyl nice on that car. I have been watching your videos for many years!!
I'm sitting here with my favorite bourbon wondering why am I watching a guy knock the barnacles off and pressure wash the interior of a fifty-year-old car... I don't know. Oh it's because this is a great way to pass the time! Thanks.

She's a beaut'! My buddy had a '69 back in High School. She'd do 80 down the highway, with load of people(8 or so) without breaking a sweat. I loved that old girl.

Glad to see you bringing her back to life! She deserves it! Hard to Find, such a Keeper!
Btw... anyone knows why its so damn satisfying to watch pressure wash off mold from cars? Someone should do a study on this...
I have seriously pondered the same thing. I’m no psychologist but I think it has to do with the fact that so much we do in life either has very delayed gratification, an overtly bad or unpleasant result, or no apparent result at all. Pressure washing something grimy is something that not only feels useful, but you get instant feedback / reinforcement that what you’re doing is working and you’re actually winning for a change. Either that or it just pushes the same “it’s fun to destroy stuff” mental buttons that get pushed by shooting reactive targets or blowing up fruit with firecrackers, etc.
Pressure washing is very rewarding and apparently watching is as well.
NCTRenegade yes totally agree a guy just pressure washed some gas tanks the other day with about thirty years of mold and grime on it and she really cleaned up nice, it’s crazy what pressure washing can do
Absolutely love this one! I hope to see you fix this one up right and keep her! Great video! 👍
Hi Derek ... Betty White takes on a new meaning ... She really becomes a special car !!! So glad she is in your fleet !
Back when Cadillac was really an industry standard. She"s the most beautiful car you've had since the hemi dodge. Hope that one went to a good home.
I love to see when a new vice grip garage video comes up!! I'll be dipped!!!!
when it comes time to give her the ol shine treatment id love to see a guy use meguiar's ultimate compound for the buffing stage and then use meguiar's ultimate polish to make her shinier than a greased up bald guy on disco night
Funny stuff....lol
Slicker than a leather head rest in a black preachers lexus
Sounds good! What you had in mind for the car?
It's a shame there's never any youtuber interaction in the comment section. Still love the vids!
She's gotta have dice on the mirror, and curb feelers! That is a Saturday grocery getter, and a Sunday goin to meetin unit! Gotta keep this one. I like loud pipes, but I'd put 12 mufflers on this thing, and have her so quiet that you can hear a mouse fart in the trunk, when you drive her down the road.
Agree, a nice silent floating Caddy cloud!
Straight duals and turbos, for just a tickle of rumble.
I totally agree dude! Silent cruising, wafting along on a magic carpet!
Quiet as a mouse...that's the way to go with this one.
I'm hoping for quiet luxury with this one.
Erasing time with the old pressure washer. Love how you put the fam to work!
Do what you need to make that car gorgeous 😍 I love it!
It is amazing how you are bringing life back to such an old lady. And she is worth it to have a further life. For us, it is great to watch how you are working on this project. Great video, please go on.
Ditch the points! I have a 472 in my 68 Coupe deVille and 11 years ago, I did a tune-up and it ran bad! Turns out the brand new points I bought were defective. Bought another set...same thing! Bought a 3rd set and they were fine! BUT, considering the fact that points WILL eventually wear out, I decided to replace the points with the Pertronix. Saved the last set of points for a backup. Car still runs great!
Keep us posted with the progress on this fine old land yacht, please!

There aren't many things more satisfying that watching crud get pressure washed off an old car
I feel invested since I watched Derek work on this car out in the wind and the rain out in a field lol. I’ve never thought about old Cadillac much but they are pretty when cleaned up!
I love these old battleships.....the handling, the power, the luxury......lets skip fueleconomy. ;-)
I have a 93 FWB; they don't handle so well after 28 years and 100K miles. 1993 was supposed to be the best handling Caddy in years which makes it ride a bit stiff. If a guy had a garage and lift it may be a different story. Working on stuff at chest level is easier than laying/sitting on the ground. A feller needs to get to Hobo Freight and get a floor jack as well.
Great to see y’all diggin in as a family effort. She’s a beautiful old going to town rig and you are sure bringing her right round
When he you did the interior with the pressure washer I bet Larry at AMMO NYC had a heart attack🤣🤣
I thought about the same. Larry also wouldn't approve of power washing the vinyl roof.
After you have completely washed the car l would purchase this new ceramic coating of which one brand
is called is called F-11 l believe. It works very well and provides a slick
shiney shine!
you kidding. he wouldn't watch this for money 🤣
In 1987 I bought an old 1965 GMC 2 1/2 ton flatbed out of a field from an old farmer for $500. It took a carb and a battery, and I drove it away with the old fuel! Was my personal pickup truck for over a year without any further repairs before the cops finally told me I needed commercial insurance to drive it. Best pickup truck I ever drove. Love you vids! Keep up the good work!!
Love the Caddy. My Grandfather had a two door of the same vintage in olive drab green. It looked like an M1 tank. It was probably about 35.32 lbs lighter though. True story: my grandmother was driving it and got rear ended at a country road intersection by a Yugo. Totaled the Yugo, but the only damage to the Cad was a broken back up light lens.

First video of yours I saw was the one when you collected this motor. Got me hooked and subscribed from that episode. Id love to take on something like this, strip it all out inside, paint the floors, clean it to within 1.76mm of its life and enjoy it.
When you washed off the back Cadillac Emblem I had this overwhelming satisfying feeling.
I knew you were going to do the s.o.s pad trick😀 One of my favorites too. Here’s one of mine..You can spray some semi-gloss engine clear coat over the rusty areas to keep the rust from popping back up. Works on chrome too after you use a brass wire brush on a drill to shine it back up.
Ok I was watching this and asking myself why are you watching a guy washing a car, Then you started cleaning the jams and interior panels with the pressure washer and i WAS hooked. BRAVO!
Love Betty White! Last of the sixties style luxury. look forward to seeing her resto!
Good job! Always makes me happy to see another saved car. Especially if it's such a beauty!
I'm emotionally invested in the Caddy now so you can go ahead and sell it now as usual.
We will do the right thing and sell it right now
Hidden and shown wiper assembly (articulated linkages and blades), is an important section to wash/rinse with power washer.
Good to see that at 18:37 the wipers cavity area is quite clean and free of debris.
Wish I was there with that De Ville during the pressure washing.
Thumbs up!
Amazing how that tarp protected that Caddy .....
I would keep her as ......
original as you could....
Follow the Tarps lead ☺
Cars should never have a plastic tarp on top... But should always be parked on one.... They hold moisture... If you cover a car it should be with a breathable cover... The Plastic under the car will keep the moisture and grass from underneath and it will stop the Lime from Concrete as well... Best place to park a Car is on Blacktop or Wood.

Dam man I love Cadillacs I'm driving a 2011 CTS4 in the Cadillac pearl white with only 28k miles I love her but your Cadillac is just amazing so mint when you consider what she has been through or even not doing that. I would keep her and take her to auto shows with your Dad's Buick. Tow the Buick with the Cadillac, put a super-hidden hitch with bags for the suspension to bring the bumper up. You have at least two beautiful classics that you do not see every day.
I'm so glad I am apart of your journey, a great channel and you never get all pissed off. I always feel you will not give up and just fight through it. Thanks
Got me remembering my Grandpa's Sedan De Ville. Thank you for the memories, Derek! 😊👍
Hey Derek! Great job on the Caddy! I would definitely put in a Holley fuel transfer unit, carb or FI. Anything is better than the Rochester units as I am from Rochester NY where they were made. Junk!. Dual exhaust will definitely improve power and fuel economy, though the best you'll ever see for gas mileage on that right may be 8 mpg. What color new carpet will Jessica put in? Black is universal, but maroon or dark blue would be more 70's ish. I hope the white vinyl roof can be saved. As for the smell inside, maybe a new A/C unit will help dry things, and some pine tree branches set overnight for a few day may help the odor. 😎
Spruce more potent !

Absolutely restore it. These a rare cars to find in such good shape like that one, you struck gold on this find. I use to own an old Cadillac as well and their supper comfortable cars. I say the only down fall of these old babies is their love for the fuel. Yet one of my biggest regrets is selling my old Cadillac it was one of the dumbest things I ever did was get rid of mine.
Greetings from Norway :) I have to say sometimes RUclips manages to give me some excelent suggestions. I was just browsing a guy pulling a whiteish submarine out of the swap for an hour and got hooked immediately. Had to subscribe at once! Love how you manage to make these old cars run every time. Do you have a black belt in video editing or are you just that good? :)
Was having a rough day today, it was nice to see this video uploaded when I got on the interwebs...thank you :')
MAN, that was really satisfying to watch. Thanks for the rust removal tips.
If the leather top were healthy I would leave it on her but at that stage is more of a detriment than an asset to the build. I would just remove it and paint the Top.
Do the EFI on it, It would make for an awesome Long Range Bomber, I think you should call it The flying Fortress or USS IOWA.
She a beautiful classic, especially with the white leather seats. Keep her original, inside and out. My dream car is a 1959 Cadillac Deville or Fleetwood. Thanks for saving her, keep up the good work.
Man I love this car! She’s gonna be pretty when she’s done!
Put the skirts and wheelcovers back on and cruise as is, hopefully it gets a full restoration!
I wish I could find one of these-those old DeVilles were just awesome!
The Fleetwoods with full B pillars and framed door windows are my favorites. The power windows do not get damaged as easily as the DeVille windows do and they seal out water intrusion better.
Movie cars.
I used to put clear waxy shoe polish on my vinyl tops. Shined them right up, protected them from sun and water also. This old girl is a keeper.
New Top for the Cream Puff! She deserves it the rest of the car is in good enough shape to justify it!
HELLO & VERY NICE GREETINGS from germany, Bavaria & me!🍀☺👋
I like to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH 4 save this beautiful fullsize 4 Door Hardtop Cadillac! 😋👍I really love the 4 Door Hardtop Bodystyle, i think especially this so amazing bodystyle without the B-pillars between the doors is even often more beautiful than 2 door versions... I think most car guys think not so, but I think so!😀
I'm also still restoring a fullsize 4 door Hardtop, a '67 Chevy Caprice 4 Door Sport Sedan... Exactly the same car as used for the popular TV Show "Supernatural"...
You've told in the video that you're not sure about that you can rebuild the rusted lower/bottom part of the front fenders... I can tell you that this is absolutely possible and at this shape of the fenders are a not so difficult to rebuild it with new hand & self made sheet metal Patches.
I had to do the same at both front fenders at my Chevy + the whole wheel arches. And i can tell you that especially the wheel arches was not a easy Job, but hey, now it's very very nice and i think this work is really worth the time & work... I think this you could tell really RESTORATION. I know at USA & especially the people who are Supernatural fans have often Not that talent to do that work at the front fenders of those '67 fullsize Chevys....ore aren't think about to restore their fenders. They often trash really restorable/saveable fenders what has rusty wheel arches and bottom ends. And that's very very sad i think, because so tooo often these rare front fenders what no company is reproducing it goes to the junk. And I know that the most of those fenders are restorable & saveable. But the most of the people with a '67 fullsize Chevy are change their restorable fenders in other fenders with less rust or rustfree fenders. I wish thei give me their rusty fenders, because i would restore it 😋😀
When you like to take a short look at my self restored front fenders you could look at my YT Channel, it's only 1 Video about my Chevy still in the moment but more Videos, especially with pictures of the restoration of the front fenders will follow. But when you look at the Video you could see what is NEW hand/selfmade sheet metal: the shiny metal is the new sheet metal. I also had to rebuild the dog legs at both Sides. I also had to rebuild the whole lower windshield frame & partial the rear windshield frame. We know that those sections are very often, at the most of the US classic cars have rust there. And especially at the most fullsize cars are no repro patches on the market. So very often the hand/selfmade patches are the only way for a good restoration.
If you need help about restore/rebuild the front fenders of this beautiful Cadillac just tell me and I think we could find a good way about restoring it😋👍
And i think you could help me about my restoration of my 67 Chevy Caprice/Impala, too! I've other things were i could need a little Help😋
And when i look at your beautiful Cadillac, i'm very very glad that you're restoring the 4 Door Hardtop, because I think it's sad that too often people didn't See this beauty of this bodystyle without the B-pillars between the doors...... I really think it's the most beautiful version of this Cadillac, also at the 67 fullsize Chevys... The roof lines of the 4 Door Hardtop's are more beautiful than the roof lines of the 2 doors i think 😋👍
And it's more rare to see those 4 Door Hardtop's than the 2 Door versions.... Back in the days it was different. Then 4 Doors was much more to see at the roads. But today you could see a lot more 2 doors on the roads. I really love the look of the roads of USA back in the days! And i really couldn't understand that many people at USA are buying Hundays, Toyotas, Nissans, Audi/VW, ore that horrible eclectric cars like Tesla. I really couldn't understand that😅.... I'm a big fan of US cars since i was a ~3-4 years old little guy & since i could remember me. My favorite was the "General Lee" and the "Dukes of Hazzard" or also the Gran Torino of "Starsky & Hutch"...or the Buick Century at the TV Show "Kojak"... Those was TV Shows what i've looked when I was a Child😋😂
And i know that the '55-58 Chevy Bel Air & also the Ford Thunderbird or Lincoln Continental was favorite cars of me. So i even had that dream of an own US classic car😋
2 years ago i found my '67 Chevy Caprice/Impala 4 Door Hardtop/Sport Sedan after a long search in the Internet. The Car was built at Lordstown Assembly plant Ohio, and it was driven its whole life at Ohio, too. The color was Madeira Maroon and it was in a unrestored, original but rusty condition. But hey, i know Rust is not the problem for me, because i learned it to rebuild it and so i found that i've a tslent about work with sheet metal 👷☺
Before I was working at this car i didn't know about that talent and so i got skills about that work ☺
I really do all by myself only with my 70 years old father 😊 the only work i didn't do by myself is the paintjob. Still in the moment i think that i give my Chevy to a professional painter. Because I think i've not a big talent about painting whole cars. BUT, i've never had painted a Car, so it could possible that i could do that but i didn't know about that now. And i think it's a little bit bad, even when i've done all that good sheet metal & bodywork and then i painting the whole car 2-3 times by myself or so. I think that's not this car were i'll learn to paint Cars😅😋
At another, future car project i'll Paint a car but not yet after all this big body & sheet metal work... Because i think it's not a car what is so easy to paint, even because to get a good paintjob with all the new sheet metal...

Love these old Cadillac's, I was given a 65 that had sat for about 20 yrs, all it needed was a fuel filter, that's what caused her to be parked, I was even able to just burn the old gas in the tank, these cars where so over built, I think it would have ran no matter what was in the tank
Yeah there tanks and just like military they were multi fuel
