It’s Dec 2020, i have an Xbox One X and Nakamichi Shockwafe and The Vid19 has brought the world to its knees but this single video has helped me enjoy 4k UHD Atmos awesomeness and for that i am eternally grateful!
It works for a regular amp too. Although I couldn’t get 4K and surround through HDMI alone because my amp doesn’t have a 4K pass through. I needed to go optical.
@@JrTruther86 bro my friend literally has surroundsound and he has the same Xbox as me and he literally uses to HDMI cords to hook up to a surroundsound and I cannot find a video explaining on why it won’t work. I bought a 3rd HDMI cord and there’s not even a port for it.

I have been trying everything known to man to select the Dolby Atmos for home theater option on my Xbox one x and COULD NOT get it to select it...I had called Microsoft,Onn and Samsung..because I knew all my equipment was FULLY supported for Atmos but the one thing that I wasn't doing was switching my tv to the HDMI channel on my soundbar...once a person gets frustrated we humans can definitely overlook things

Didn't work for me. My sound bar has 1 hdmi port. I connected the bar to the tv ARC port and the xbox to another hdmi port on the tv. But on the xbox settings I still can't put 5.1 or even bitstream.
I've done everything you have said but when I go into my xbox audio settings and click the 5.1 uncompressed it comes up with a message to check my audio receiver. Please help
an HDMI (ARC) port is a required port on both a TV & a Soundbar in order for and “Audio (Return Channel)” signal to pass over the HDMI cable between these devices No ARC = No Audio
sorry for the super late comment but under "audio setup" in the volume and audio output it says my tv connection is set to DVI and i need an optical audio cable for sound and to switch my tv connection to an HDMI setting to use an HDMI cable for audio, im not tech savvy at all so could someone explain what this means?

Have a 4k samsung and when I did this I got 5.1 surround but took away my 4k picture. Had to plug sound bar to arc (hdmi3) and Xbox straight to TV. (hdmi1)
If you have a hdmi arc on your sound bar and TV. Connect your hdmi arc ports together and your xbox to your TV. There can be audio lag though with this

@@philippbaving89 no, unfortunately it does not work properly because i have an old tv and the arc-port does not support 4k. What tv do you have? You could try to switch the hdmi cable into the different tv ports.
@@vinni8137 i text with my LG Support. Problem is, that my Soundbar LG SK8 only have HDMI 1.4 . It doesnt support 4k codec. The soundbar does not support 4K codec. Here you must connect the Xbox to the TV and forward the audio codec via HDMI-ARC to the Soundbar. In the case of Atmos, the TV set must understand the codec so that it can be forwarded. Your TV has to support Dolby Atmos then. When not we can only have 1080p with Dolby Atmos :(..
New home. I have an 85 p series vizio on the living room wall and was going to put theatre speakers in and above us. (Cut in drywall). Wife is afraid of vibration/cracking walls. So instead of a receiver I was thinking I would just buy a nice sound bar like the ambeo as I want to eliminate as much wires showing as possible with rear speakers etc. I have a new Xbox and a PS4. I should be able to connect them the same way you did in this video through the soundbar correct? I believe the tv and soundbar have earc so I’m assuming I would use them? One last thing is I was going to get zone 2 with my initial surround sound to have some music outside as I ran speaker wire from the living room to my outside deck for speakers. Do I lose that without the zone 2 on receiver?
It depends on the sound bar. Not all sound bars support true 4k HDR pass thru. And even if they say they do...some only support 60hz vs 120hz screen refresh rate that your tv may be able to do. Then it gets even trickier...some 4k HDR pass thru sound bars will only support regular HDR and not HDR 10 or HDR 12 like some people's TV's can do. So unless you have a sound bar that supports the correct 4K and/or HDR output that your device and tv use for their max performance, it's not worth it. And alot of people don't know about this problem, and it ends up degrading their TV picture quality by running something thru their underperforming sound bar to their TV. The best solution for this problem would be just to use your TV's HDMI ARC if you have it. ARC stands for Audio Return Channel. Basically its a 2 way audio port and would only require 1 wire running from your TV to the sound bars HDMI ARC. Then you would just keep your connected device's straight into your TV. But the major downside to using HDMI ARC vs HDMI is that it only supports upto 5.1 Dolby compressed audio and not the higher end stuff such as DTS or say Atmos etc. etc.. So basically in the end for the max performance, if your sound bar supports your TV's full 4k capabilities then you should run your device thru the sound bar using the HDMI direct connect method and then out to your TV's HDMI input to get both the best sound and picture. But if your sound bar doesn't fully output what your TV can do then you want to use that HDMI ARC method that I described earlier. Sorry so long I just wanted to inform others of other extra tidbits as well. If you guys have any other questions please feel free to ask.
Hey boss. Got a question. So I just bought a smart house. Every room has surround sound as well as hard line internet connection. And for whatever reason everything I hook up works great. But my Xbox. It will only play out of the tv speakers. I’ve watched all your videos that has anything remotely close to what I’m trying to do. I mean how difficult can 2 hdmi cables be. Any help from anyone would be great.
I know this video is old but i am havin some issues with gettin atmos to work on my setup. The vizio v60 "i believe is the model" only has one hdmi port and an arc cable.. is there anyway to make this work? It says atmos is hdmi only so i figures if i got a splitter it may work that way but still no luck. If you can give me a holler and maybe u can get me on the right track.. thanks

Looked up the v21x-j8. Not seeing capability for ATMOS. You connected an HDMI cable to TV HDMI ARC port and V21x-j21 port and enabled ARC / CEC within TV menu ?
@@Allabouthomeelectronics yeah i don't think it is either. The only thing iv been able to get is 60hz dolby or dts which sounds great. I just couldn't figure out why atmos for headphones was working or at least saying it was while home theater would not.

I believe you have to change the audio settings to bitstream then from there change the bottom option to Dolby atmos for home theatre

I saw another comment asking the same question I had: Is it possible to connect a sound bar to the Xbox and TV if the sound bar only has 1 HDMI port?
This way in the video you need 2 hdmi ports, one with arc on both the soundbar and TV. Failing this you can use an optical cable as alternative

Bitstream if you can't uncompress, you may have to mess around with audio lag if the video is delayed

Zone 2 is for a separate room, it acts like it’s own stereo system in the separate room.

Then it gets even trickier...some 4k HDR pass thru sound bars will only support regular HDR and not HDR 10 or HDR 12 like some people's TV's can do. So unless you have a sound bar that supports the correct 4K and/or HDR output that your device and tv use for their max performance, it's not worth it. And alot of people don't know about this problem, and it ends up degrading their TV picture quality by running something thru their underperforming sound bar to their TV. The best solution for this problem would be just to use your TV's HDMI ARC if you have it. ARC stands for Audio Return Channel. Basically its a 2 way audio port and would only require 1 wire running from your TV to the sound bars HDMI ARC. Then you would just keep your connected device's straight into your TV. But the major downside to using HDMI ARC vs HDMI is that it only supports upto 5.1 Dolby compressed audio and not the higher end stuff such as DTS or say Atmos etc. etc.. So basically in the end for the max performance, if your sound bar supports your TV's full 4k capabilities then you should run your device thru the sound bar using the HDMI direct connect method and then out to your TV's HDMI input to get both the best sound and picture. But if your sound bar doesn't fully output what your TV can do then you want to use that HDMI ARC method that I described earlier. Hey boss. Got a question. So I just bought a smart house. Every room has surround sound as well as hard line internet connection. And for whatever reason everything I hook up works great. But my Xbox. It will only play out of the tv speakers. I’ve watched all your videos that has anything remotely close to what I’m trying to do. I mean how difficult can 2 hdmi cables be. Any help from anyone would be great.
Not enough info. Need brand names like Sonos? Yamaha? etc Are speakers wireless? Or hardwired back to Amp, if so..... what brand
I know this video is old but i am havin some issues with gettin atmos to work on my setup. The vizio v60 "i believe is the model" only has one hdmi port and an arc cable.. is there anyway to make this work? It says atmos is hdmi only so i figures if i got a splitter it may work that way but still no luck. If you can give me a holler and maybe u can get me on the right track.. thanks

@@Allabouthomeelectronics its a vizio v60.. knowing what i know now Ii would've put a lil more towards a better set up . . Its got 2 usb ports, 2 3.5 aux, but only 1 hdmi hookup

Looked up the v21x-j8. Not seeing capability for ATMOS. You connected an HDMI cable to TV HDMI ARC port and V21x-j21 port and enabled ARC / CEC within TV menu ?
@@Allabouthomeelectronics yeah i don't think it is either. The only thing iv been able to get is 60hz dolby or dts which sounds great. I just couldn't figure out why atmos for headphones was working or at least saying it was while home theater would not.
