After watching half a dozen videos, yours was the first to explain the ARC channel feeds multiple HDMI signals to the sound bar. I almost bought an HDMI splitter for all my devices. Thank you. Great video.
Absolutely brilliant. I got the answer/solution I needed within 1:40 of this video (my unit was set to TV speaker instead of soundbar). My partner used to do all of this techy stuff for me & my family - he was a music producer before he died suddenly at the age of 30 the week of Christmas last year 2021, and now I feel totally lost without all of his help & support. He would've worked this out in 10 seconds probably, lol 😉 But thanks to the internet/youtube & to people like you, I was not left totally helpless. So thank you SO much for this! Many blessings to you. Stay safe & well everybody 🙏❤️
I’ve watched at least 5 videos regarding this subject and your video was by far the best. You were clear and to the point and I didn’t have to watch a 5 minute clip of you running with your dog. Thank you!!!
You are the first person I've found to successfully explain Arc and how it allows all devices connected to the TV flow audio to the soundbar. The owners manual of my yamaha yas 207 didn't even explain it fully. Thank you!
By far the MOST helpful video I have watched. Thank you for making this super easy to understand, for not adding all those distracting/annoying video edits RUclipsrs do these days 😒 and thank you for making the color coded diagram explaining the difference between only using the TV HDMI ports vs. using the Soundbar HDMI ports (if available) when plugging in all your extra devices. I have been wondering why I have such a wide range in the quality of the audio that comes through my soundbar, and I think it’s because I am using every HDMI port on my TV (and even swapping devices). I am going to plug some straight into the Soundbar now so they don’t get further compressed 😊 Seriously, you’re a lifesaver! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Just bought a sound system and could not figure out how to get it to connected. Went thru the ARC then CEC steps and BOOM! We’ve got beautiful sound. Thanks for putting out videos for newbies like me!
I spent all day trying to get my soundbar and Appletv to work together and after the first few seconds you solved my problem! Wish I’d discovered your video much earlier today!!!
Bought a Samsung Q80r soundbar back in June '20, could not for the life of me get Disney+ to play in Atmos, no matter what I tried . This morning (28/01) after 5 minutes of watching this video The Mandalorian has never sounded so good, so good in fact I'm starting the whole season again. Thank you.
At 2:05 i first realized that video source can go to soundbar hdmi port!! And that solved it for me, thanks! And then video travels from soundbar to tv. I just missed this whole concept in the very beginning.
I have the old zvox SB8380 soundbar the long one that has this ⚪️🔴 👈🏾behind it there's no HDMI behind it iam buying a charger for it as well behind the soundbar its saying right 🔴 left ⚪️ Analog input and it's saying Oprical 1 Digital input 2 and power how can I hook this up to my ROKU TV and please explain to me what I need to do brother its my very first time 👍🏾💯🏆 Thanks
How can I get the sound to come from the soundbar only... and not both TV and soundbar simultaneously? This is all new to me as I try and get a louder sound for my 87 year old mom...🤗 Thank you so much for the video... and hopefully, reply to my question...😊
1. I am 75 years old and continuously learning "high technology". 2. I am installing a sound bar today. 3. You are very clear. I suggest you take this video and submit a. the morons who are not native English speakers who write installation manuals for PRC manufacturers; b. big conglomerates like Spectrum who really should do videos of their products. Yesterday, I received a new Spectrum t.v. controller. The girlfriend is high tech who has the latest iPhone, Apple computer and reports that the new controller is complicated and the field engineer for Sprectrum says that same thing.
I so sorry about your partner pass at such a young age. Thank you for the video it was very informative ! Helped me out connecting my Sony sound bar. ✌🙏
THANK YOU man I never comment on anyone’s videos lol but bruh I’ve been fighting my damn sound bar for over an hour, then I come across your video and boom fixed in literally 15 seconds 😂😂✊🏽✊🏽
I read that connecting your devices first to the soundbar and then the soundbar to TV ARC HDMI will also prevent the "lip sync" issue. Article explains that sound processing by TV is not as fast as video processing and as such delivers sound with latency. I actually like this option you described (devices --> soundbar --> TV) and also the fact that it clears the way for the other higher-end digital output like Atmos. Thanks for the clear and concise explanation!
I have a sound bar that's just been sitting here for a little over a year because nobody can figure out how to hook it up! I have a Haier Roku Smart tv and a iLive HD Sound bar with Bluetooth wireless. It has the red and white Aux In plug ins, and then another Line In plug in on the end where your Source/power/volume and Pair buttons are. I'm figuring that's for an optical cable because I've used that too and never got it to work and the store REFUSES to take it back. 🤬 Your videos are very helpful. I'm really hoping you can help me with this so I can actually hear this tv! Thanks!
Apologized if this is a silly question but if these 2020 versions of Nakamichi only handle 5.1 through hdmi then how exactly can you take full advantage of 7.2 and 9.2 when streaming movies?
My Samsung tv is 10 years old. I have a Fire stick and I've been reading reviews from other sites and I have been getting conflicting reports regarding sound bars. If I use the HDMI cable with a sound bar (I haven't bought one yet) will it work with the fire stick. I'm interested in a sound bar because my TV speakers sound terrible lately. Thanks so much.
I have a 2023 LED C3 65" tv & LG Sp7r Meridian soundbar kit. So the LG soundbar only has a HDMIARC port and a HDMI port. You say I should not use arc port since I'll loss quality on high end notes. So if I plug the HDMI cord from the hdmi soundbar port to TV do I then just plug my bluray dvd player directly into TV since the only hdmi port left on the sound bar is the HDMIArc port. OR, since this TV is a 2023 model, would the ARC HDMI port be able to go up to 7.1 ch vs only 5.1 as you said in video. THANK YOU for your help. :)
My biggest concern is will the volume remote that I now have (dish remote) still be able to control the volume on a soundbar?I DO NOT want to have 2 separate remote controls. One for channels and one for volume. This may seem like a dumb question but I know basically nothing about soundbars and how they function. I have never had one as you can tell.TIA.
Hello Jonah! Great tutorial. I have a soundbar with HDMI ARC port but my TV doesn't have HDMI ARC port but has the normal HDMI port. Will the soundbar work fine if I connect it to my TV's normal HDMI port?
Glad you enjoyed the video! If your TV doesn't have an HDMI ARC port then no, it will not work. You will need to connect your soundbar via Digital Optical if possible. If you don't have a Digital Optical port on both, then use AUX or RCAs. Hope this helps!
So I got a question for you and I’m going to be a new subscriber. New TV has HDMI arc. Old tv had rca to soundbar rca. It’s just a sound bar with a sub box. Can I buy a cable that will connect to my new tv hdmi to rca males to sound bar? PS My sound bar has 1 hdmi output but I think it was used for connecting my sound bar to my tv for video because this sound bar has a dvd player built into it so not sure if I can use an hdmi cable from tv hdmi arc to the sound bar to just get audio from tv to sound bar
Hi thanks for the info and I'm not technically sevvy so can I just plug optical rather than Bluetooth or hdmi I thought I had to wire up all of them? I have a Hitachi 50inch TV and a soundbar from Amazon.
Thank you! Even I understood how it worked, removed my old samsung sound bar because my husband never used it however I wanted to see if it could work on my laptop which has poor sound coming out of cheap little speakers. Can't wait to try it. PS I'm 80 years young...
You said HDMI and optical do not support the higher qualities like Dolby and DTS, so how do you get those higher qualities? Also I like Bluetooth because no wire clutter
Just connect the audio/video source directly trough HDMI input in the soundbar. Then you connect the Soudbar ARC to the TV ARC to pass the video content. CMIIW
I have a Videocon smart TV model E43EL1100 which was bought a few months back. I bought a Samsung soundbar model HW-T400 yesterday, but it is not getting connected to my videocon smart tv. The soundbar has Bluetooth, AUX & Optic options. The TV has HDMI and analog options only. I tried the AUX cable option, but it didn't work. Can you suggest the best converter that should I purchase to connect optic to TV.
Hi. I need some help. If I connect DVD/Blue ray player via HDMI to TV and this soundbar via digital optical cable to TV. Will soundbar work normally no matter do I watch TV or DVD player? Many thanks in advance!
I just bought a RokuI , and want to hook up soundbar and headphones, can this be done with some kind of connector so I don't have to plug and unplug but keep them both plugged in
Can you help me with tech problem. After installing my new TV (Sony XR75X90L) the sound doesn’t work thru my existing surround sound. The sound works for the cable channels, but the no sounds thru streaming service thru surround sound (the sound work thru TV speakers) My receivers is a Yamaha RX-V863 from 2009.
I have a Toshiba Fire TV. I have a Polk model DSB1 Sound Bar. I purchased this sound bar when we installed Dish. My problem, I am disconnecting Dish and the only way to control the volume is with the dish controller. The bar is connected digital. How do I get the sound bar to work with the Toshiba Fire TV controller. I have turned off the TV speakers and tried turning them on, Thanks for the help.
A year later.. I have a soundbar from Sony has eArc, have a OLAP TV (it's great but... it sometimes fights with it's SONY Soundbar "friend). I have a few other components like a PS5 connected, a FireCube, and a NS Switch and a few other items. Where should I connecte them through? I'm looking for a hub solution - this is where the devices come in and this produces the sound/best intepretation. I am an application/IT guy and recognize that this a pipe dream based on the various competitive direction, technology advancements, capabilities and such... but I'm just looking to maximize what I have today and look at how to fix/improve the solution and I'm more about more wiring into our home.
Hi Jonah, My surround sound is connected to my dvd player. I can only get the surround sound when I'm using the dvd. I want to be able to plug in my laptop to the t.v. and hear the surround sound. Do I need to change any settings on my t.v. remote? I cannot find what setting I should use. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated it. Thanks in advance.
So ive connected my nakamichi arc to my bravia 4k vh2 tv arc, got light. Now i have fire stick in the 2hdmi on my sound bar, and nothing fire stick will not work in any hdmi ports on the sound bar. Just like this video says
I keep having issues with using hdmi for the speaker bar.l The tv goes back to its internal speaker and I have to manually go in and change the audio source EVERY time I use the tv. Well almost every time. Then sometimes, it doesn't work at all, no sound. I have to turn off the tv and hdmi source signal and the bar, then turn them all back on again. Finally, whenever I watch the disney channel on my apple tv (but not other content on the tv), there is a delay in the dialog. I am guessing it is some setting that I can't figure out related to the dolby digital. I am wondering if a speaker bar that uses optical wouldn't have these issues?
Hi, my home theater system just has hdmi connection not ARC, but my TV has hdmi ARC, would it affect the sound quality? What is the best set up to get the best sound quality? Thanks.
My DVD only has 3 multi colored cords for both my sound bar and dvd player. Help..I don't know how to install both. Does have hdmi and optical. Do I need a different cord
Any reason that a soundbar suddenly starts "buzzing" and you can only stop it by pushing the electric plug into the back more firmly to get it to stop?? Then it starts buzzing again, with static? It's a VEATOOL from Walmart, so it was cheap to start with, but I'd like it to work.
I have a Hisense 214 sound bar. My problem is controlling my volume. Before the sound bar my volume control went 1 2 3 4 5 etc. with the sound bar hooked up the volume control is 5 10 15 20 etc. 20 is too low at night and 25 too loud. How can I fix this?
Thank you very much - this was extremely helpful - straight to the point. I'm all set with how to connect the new sound bar! Again, thank you very very much!
How can I get my Bravia TV remote (RF) to control my Sonos Ray Soundbar? I think Sonos says it needs to be an IR remote but is there a way around that? The Ray Soundbar only has optical connection option.
Jonah, i hope you can help. We have an older sound bar which only has the old audio in/out connections and We have a new LED TV with only HDMI connections or the unique starish shaped optical/digital/audio out port. Is there a connecting wire to accommodate these different connections. We have discovered our other electronic as the DVD player is also incompatible. YIKES!
Hi Thank you for a very simple detailed explanation. Question 1. I have a Samsung Q60t with ARC, connected to a Sony XR65X90K earc connected by hdmi. Is there a loss of quality because my soundbar has ARC and my TV had EARC? Question 2. I have a minix set top box connected to tv hdmi1. Can I connect the minix by hdmi direct to the soundbar, instead of directly to the TV?
I swear I've been through 10 separate videos on this topic and none gave the answer. Now after watching this video my soundboard is kicking better than before. I had my (cambridge) speaker connected, and it worked, but the default speaker was still the TV, because the cable didn't support it. After watching this, it's now the no1 speaker on out Samsung TV. Thanks a lot 👍
I need help really bad, I just bought a samsung tv QN85B, I connected my soundbar through a hdmi earc port on my TV on the first day it was working fine, but after a few days I have been having issues with my connection I can't get any sound through my soundbar, really frustrating a tried everything, reseting both TV and soundbar, changing my hdmi cables, nothing works, any idea what it might be?
Is the volume of the optical audio output fixed on most TVs, which forces one to use two remote controls, one for TV and one for the soundbar? Or are my TVs (Hisense, Vizio) the exceptions? and/or.... are some soundbars smart enough to learn the TV's remote control's sound button frequencies?
After watching half a dozen videos, yours was the first to explain the ARC channel feeds multiple HDMI signals to the sound bar. I almost bought an HDMI splitter for all my devices. Thank you. Great video.
I bought a splitter and have had no end of trouble getting good connections.
Same here!

I am in the process of setting up my Nakamichi 9.2.4 system on my new 86 inch LG TV and your explanation was what I needed to hear.
No one needs to hear exactly what type of soundbar and TV you have. Unless it made you feel good, then it's fiiiiiiiiine....
How can I get the sound to come from the soundbar only... and not both TV and soundbar simultaneously?
This is all new to me as I try and get a louder sound for my 87 year old mom...🤗

He explained better than the sales staff from shops. Subscribed, like and bell for your next videos . Huge thumb up!
He does it for a passion they do it for a pay check
Wow. Dude that was simple. I've had some lip sync issues with optical. Do I just turn off the TV lip sync?

Nice thanks guys
Thanks Jonah - excellent summary of connection methods - very helpful.
It would be great if it actually told you how to set this up.
That part

Thank you for the best video on the information & installation of this unit!.
Thank you for keeping it simple & knowledgeable!.

If you're moving all devices to the sound-bar, how do you select the input source on t he TV? Does the TV see the different sources via ARC?

The best explanation how to connect a soundbar to a tv!
Agree! I was so annoyed when I got my new sound bar. Watched this and read the blog. Feel much better.
Hi Jonah,
I find the subwoofer very annoying when watching the News on TV. How do I un-pair the subwoofer, but withpout switching the power supply off
Should I turn off the volume to my TV and just use the sound bar? My sound bar came with very vague instructions. Thank you

Will the optical cable make sound come out of the sound bar and the tv at the same time
So I got a question for you and I’m going to be a new subscriber.
New TV has HDMI arc.
Old tv had rca to soundbar rca.
It’s just a sound bar with a sub box. Can I buy a cable that will connect to my new tv hdmi to rca males to sound bar? PS
My sound bar has 1 hdmi output but I think it was used for connecting my sound bar to my tv for video because this sound bar has a dvd player built into it so not sure if I can use an hdmi cable from tv hdmi arc to the sound bar to just get audio from tv to sound bar
Hi thanks for the info and I'm not technically sevvy so can I just plug optical rather than Bluetooth or hdmi
I thought I had to wire up all of them? I have a Hitachi 50inch TV and a soundbar from Amazon.
the most productive 5 minutes of quality knowledge about sound bar and connection. thank you!
thank you, Joanah. you made that very clear and concise. much easier than i thought.
Thank for the info bro my not knowing how to set it up was the main reason why I haven’t got one yet but now I’m going to get one
Best explanation on you tube - to the point! Really appreciate buddy!
And in understandable English.
Exactly the same thing I was wondering, any answer found?
Just connect the audio/video source directly trough HDMI input in the soundbar. Then you connect the Soudbar ARC to the TV ARC to pass the video content. CMIIW
bro thks for this just what i was looking for. nice and simple and fully detailed and the ARC break down was great thats what I was confused on.
Great easy video. So happy I clicked on your video. Thank you very much!

Hi Jonah,
My surround sound is connected to my dvd player.
Thankyou. Watched your video just once and it totally helped me understand how to set up my sound bar.
Hi, my home theater system just has hdmi connection not ARC, but my TV has hdmi ARC, would it affect the sound quality? What is the best set up to get the best sound quality? Thanks.
You are my life saver, tons of videos and urs the one that helps
Thank you, the instructions on my new soundbar were unclear and I taught I had to connect HDMI and optical.
Do you have to have a smart tv to set up a soundbar? I hv an old fashoined old tv with hdmi & now tv stick! 😢
Excellent channel! You are easy to understand and do a great job of explaining. Happy new sub.
My DVD only has 3 multi colored cords for both my sound bar and dvd player. Help..I don't know how to install both. Does have hdmi and optical. Do I need a different cord
Wow a man who can explain this without a heavy foreign accent. Great video.
Your videos are very helpful. Your instructions are clear and easy to follow. Great videos!
Your video was very easy and straight to the point, I am of the much older generation and do not find electronics and set ups very easy, thanks again
YIKES!
Excellent video. So I’m looking for a sound bar with Dolby Atmos, and multiple HDMI because my TV doesn’t have ARC, got it.
Hi
Thank you for a very simple detailed explanation.
This really help me,thx a lot dude.
Bose soundbar 600 to Samsung Q60C series tv. Having problems connecting, any ideas? Using eARC on both ends.
What is the option if your TV doesn't have an HDMI ARC but your soundbar does I have two HDMI ports and a Roku plugged in the number one.
Use auxiliary cord if you have a 2.0 sound bar. It won't affect the sound quality at all since it's 2 channel
very clear comparison. I have a Samsung TU8500 and a Bose Soundtouch 300. is there a way we control the sound using only the Samsung Universal Remote?
Instead of doing a Sound Bar I want to use a pair of computer speakers! But I cant get any sound out of my Siki TV's RCA Audio outputs?
I have the same problem, my sound bar only has optical and I have to use two remotes.
Thank you!
Thank you!!! We found the HDMI ARC on the TV as well
Hello great tutorial, I have a question, if you connect all your devices to the soundbar will the picture still come through the soundbar to the TV ?
I will like to connect my Sound bar, whenever I put it on I am connected to Bluetooth, but not RUclips I need your help thanks very much.
