I had watched several other videos on connecting soundbars, and managed to get my setup connected- the wrong way. Only when watching this video did it get across to me that my former hub-based view of electronics wasn’t how HDMI-ARC works. Before acquiring a soundbar, my history in entertainment electronics centered around plugging all components into a receiver, and using that to control the system as desired. Now that the receiver is gone, I have only the soundbar, smart TV, and a streaming device. Once I realized that the soundbar now acts as the central link in a daisy-chain between the streaming device and TV, everything fell into place. Ten thumbs-up for this short but very helpful video.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍.
This was so clearly explained that it's hard to imagine someone getting it wrong after watching your video. Thank you very much for your time and beautifully made video!
Best video on this subject. Straight to the point but gives all info in a easy to understand way. Thank you so much for not wasting my time talking about your cat or something. Hate it when people do that.
Thank you for giving us different options how to connect the soundbar. My soundbar has usb port and optical port. I only have hdmi cable and bluetooth receiver and didnt work. But after I found your tutorial, I was searching for my optical cable inside my house. Glad I found one and tried connecting the optic cable. Within few seconds, I have a great sound coming from my soundbar and save few bucks. Thank you so much!!!
OMG After beating my head against a wall for a half hour trying to get soundbar to work I look for a video find yous and within 40 seconds you have me up and running THANKS A TON
Thanks Chris; l scoured through so many channels, and not any of them was successful. I came across your channel as a last resort, and immediately was successful. Thanks Fam! Much Respect!
You just helped save my wife from a breakdown 😂 she was on the verge until I searched in RUclips how to install surround sound and you popped up. You saved the night! Breakdown averted 😅 we went with the optical cord and it worked after a half hour of not being able to get sound to come through the sound bar. Thank you!!!
@Kween of Kups No... NOT You Tube, it's the creators, thank you Chris, first time ever using / setting up a TV with a sound bar, "toshiba TY-WSB600" the instructions are as useful as Bull with ta ta's
Just upgraded to the Sony 9000F soundbar, and I went looking for tutorials. So far, the Sony has really done great. It replaced a 15 year old Harmon Kardon 2.1 repurposed PC setup that worked okay, but was starting to short out. I'm on analog input for now until I upgrade TV to new 4k. Anyway, awesome video and info. Subscribed!
I was having issues connecting the instabox S60M to my tv. The only option I had was the Optical connection as the other options were not available on my tv. I finally came across your video and you mentioned that some sound bars aren’t compatible while on Dolby sound.....that’s what my problem was, so a simple change from Dolby Digital to PCM solves my frustrating issue. Thank You so much for that very important minor detail!!!!
Thanks so much. Finally, after hours of searching, calling TCL for help, you sir, have solved my problem. I purchased a new TCL Roku Tv and connected it to my Vizio soundbar and it was working perfectly UNTIL I wanted to watch something using Roku apps. When I would switch, I lost sound from the soundbar and would have to raise volume on the tv. I also have no hdmi port on the soundbar. Also the soundbar optical cable had ran straight into the cable box. Once I watched your video, I removed the optic cable of the soundbar and ran it directly into the optic port of the tv and success, I now have sound both ways into the soundbar. TCL wanted me to buy a second hdmi cable as their solution but as I said, I had no hdmi port on the soundbar so I was confused on how I was to make that connection. THANKS FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE.
I had issues with audio video sync but after connecting everything to the sound bar through HDMI it's all fixed thanks to you. THANK YOU SO MUCH I APPRECIATE IT!
I have an audio sync issue as well, so I connect two HDMI cables from the UHD player, one to the soundbar for audio, and on to the TV for video? And a third HDMI from the TV to the soundbar (ARC) ? Thanks
I read on a few different forums that connecting via hdmi from console to sound bar to tv can add video input lag. Not sure if this has ever been tested or not, but unless it's a direct passthrough, I imagine it does add a little bit of input lag. Some older soundbars can't passthrough 4k either, so beware of that as well if you have a 4k tv 🙂 My recommendation is to connect hdmi console to tv, then soundbar to tv via arc separately 👍
Another cracking video. Thanks for these, really useful for lots of people. Personally I didn’t know about the restrictions using optical, so I’m switching over to hdmi ARC tonight when I get home.
Just got a Soundbar for Xmas now and wasn't sure what was wrong, assumed the HDMI cable wasn't 1.4 but it turns out the CEC setting needed to be enabled. Thanks a lot, liked and subbed.
One benefits of using the Headphone/Aux jack is that you can use your TV remote to control sound. I know ARC-HDMI will do this too but my sound bar didn't have an ARC port.
Joel Rodríguez Yeah, sometimes one of your HDMIs on your TV have ARC but it's not labled ARC. Or it could be, a Soundbar can actually work on any HDMI.
First of all, fantastic videos. Your precise, economical use of words is refreshing. You get right to the point much more clearly and accurately than most others do. My question is about HDMI ARC splitters. I have a Samsung Smart TV from, like, 2012. Given that it has just one HDMI ARC port that’s already in use, can an HDMI splitter with ports for two devices allow me to hook up my new sound bar along with the current device using that single HDMI ARC port? If so, any particular such splitter you’d recommend? Thanks again for your terrific content!
Great video. It came in handy since I just purchased my first soundbar. I have a smart LG TV and a Toshiba soundbar and although they both support ARC I only have two HDMI ports on my TV (and need those for my Xbox and Blueray player--yes I still use one), and only one HDMI port on my soundbar. I did not have an optical cable on hand so I tried the bluetooth + TV speaker combination and despite selecting the 'no delay' option for the soundbar it still created a strange echo effect as the audio from the TV speaker was always a split second ahead of the soundbar. Anyway, I decided to finally go with the optical connection as both the soundbar and TV have those ports available. Cheers.
I really like your videos! Very informative and you truly seem to want to help people by sharing your knowledge instead of trying to just get RUclips famous like most people.
thank you so much i bought soundbar it will arrive in saturday ,was looking for best option for audio ,and ARC it is I also have 4k LG tv ,so it won't be a problem setting it up
