Finally got that fixed but I kept thinking, the average consumer would be driven mad trying to deal with that type of issue. Now the rear surround speakers started turning off in the middle of watching movies/tv… freak’n annoying!

The reason that unplugging works is because many devices don't turn all the way off. They go into standby mode, so "powering off" doesn't have the desired effect when trying to solve a problem. Unplugging from power long enough to allow all the capacitors in the device to discharge will do a full power off.
This video helped resolved my persistent issue in a matter of seconds. I called the Bose support team and none of their recommendations resolved the sound issue. Before watching your video I was at my wits end. I had to remove all HDMI cables and unplug the soundbar method to get my ARC to work again. Thank you for preventing me from throwing out a $1200 LG 5.1.2 system.
Thank you so much for making this video! My Sonos Arc would no longer connect to my LG TV after a power outage. I tried to reconnect unsuccessfully for about an hour and gave up. I even ordered new HDMI cables. I was worried that the HDMI connections were damaged from the power surge and that I might have to replace either the TV or the Sonos arc. Both are obviously very expensive items. After watching your video, I simply disconnected every single cable and wire and left them that way for an entire night. In the morning, I reconnected all the wires and miraculously the sound just reconnected. Perhaps the length of time helped the TV reset itself . I am incredibly relieved! I now have the power cables connected to a surge protector. Not sure why I never thought that was important prior. Thanks again!
Brutal one hour troubleshooting late evening. Missed an important March Madness game. Finally the system got stuck on a screen. Gave up, unplugged everything, went to bed. Fired up in the AM. System went into update. Horray! System restored. HDMI one and two are back. Thanks for the help.

@3:20 You seem to be confusing the eARC On/Off setting for a general ARC On/Off. My soundbar does not support any of the advanced high-bandwidth audio formats where eARC would be required. The eARC settings in the TV are Off and Auto, and I've set it Off. The sound bar is OK with that.

I have a HiSense U8K and a Vizio Soundbar. I don’t know if the TV hates the sound bar but it keeps shutting it off or disabling and pretending it’s not there. At this point I’ve given up on it and have switched to Optical. EARC is a neat idea but poorly implemented.
Thank you so much! I spent 2 hours including a half hour with a Geek Squad tech and I couldn’t get my sound bar to work again. I lost my remote and tried to use an old remote and somehow lost my sound. Your very first advice on checking the HDMI ARC worked. It was off.
Thanks Jonah. A very helpful video. I have a CX myself and, apart from an occasional sound sync issue with my Sony amp, all connections work well. However, I’ve got one annoying regular problem that I can’t seem to resolve. If I switch the amp to the TV input so that it uses the eArc-enabled CX port, I always have to go into the tv sound settings and reset it to use the eArc sound output as, for no obvious reason, the CX has always set itself back to ‘internal speaker’ since I last used the input. It’s easy enough to switch back but annoying to have to do every time.
Kennan, I have the same issue with my soundbar connected to my Sony eARC. There is no output in the soundbar everyday on the first try. I have go back to settings n select audio to make it work. The worst part is after few hours this happens again n I have to do the process again
I had to perform a HDMI reset and it worked. Problem: Anytime between 7 - 20 minutes, our sound would cut-out for 2 - 3 seconds and had become very annoying. We have a 75" Samsung TV and a Sonos Arc + 2 subs + 2 rear speakers. I tried the settings you suggested and interesting enough, activating the eARC button (where the Sonos Arc is attached), made the problem worse. So I did a full HDMI reset as you recommend. I then turned on the Anynet+ function and the eARC setting on the TV menu. We haven't heard any cut-outs since performing the reset procedure! Thank you for the video.
I've just recently re installed my home theater after 11 years😳 so this is helpful information, I'm updating my tv from 40" to 65" and my old JVC receiver as well. I'll be following your channel for more helpful information. Thx. again.
I can not actually belive this. But after wasting whole day trying to get my LGC2 and Samsung HW B650 to work the HDMI power cycle did the job! And I also put the HDMI 2.1 cable instead of some random cable and now its working flawlessly. Before I could not get it to produce sound from TV even though the TV detected the soundbar. Thank you!
You are awesome!!!! I had a storm while I was at work and my beam wasn't connecting to my tv. I gave the good old turned my tv off for 30 seconds and turned it back on and worked instantly. Liked
The HDMI refresh solved my issues with my Soundbar and LG C1 thanks for the video! I spent hours power cycling, re plugging cables in and out, never thought unplugging Everything and powering down would do the trick.
The alleged automatic upgrade function on my Apple TV has never worked. After watching this post, I checked and an upgrade was needed. The annoying audio delay has disappeared completely, thanks to your advice.
Good information but the problem I have is the the sound drops for a quick second it hard to watch anything with the sound dropping. every few minutes.
Thanks for the video man, my sound bar stopped working this morning before leaving for work and I couldn’t figure it out, unplugging and plugging hdmi back into my sound bar would work for about a second and then silence again and Bluetooth worked fine Doing your “hdmi reset” did the job though and everything’s working again, had this setup for almost a year and zero issues until now
Yep the hdmi refresh is no joke. I was getting so frustrated. I reset the soundbar and tv sound settings and unplugged the tv and soundbar. I also tried using a different hdmi cable and nothing! I was just about to factory reset the tv but didnt feel like it lmao. This works! Thank you!
When I encounter sound and sync issues I usually reboot the systems. Power on and off my routers, TV, sound-bar and all connected devices. This has worked every time in the past 10 years.
I connected hdmi arc on the TV to the hdmi arc on the receiver. The set top box is connected to the receiver as well. The surround sound works for the cable channels but the apps such as Netflix in the TV don’t. The sound comes out only on TV for the apps. What am I missing?
I was having an issue where the volume controls UI would pop up on the screen every minute. This started happening after I factory reset the TV (due to another reason). It was driving me crazy. I tried so many thing, but the fix was to do the HDMI refresh. THANK YOU!!!
@Jonah - I recently upgraded my main TV from a Sony XBR-75X940D (2016) and moved this TV to my bedroom. Downstairs it was paired with a Denon AVR-X4300H and ARC worked perfectly. However, in my bedroom I have an older Denon AVR-4311. ARC works perfectly every time I power cycle the TV and the receiver. However, if I turn off the TV and turn it back on, there is no sound from the speakers even though the TV thinks it is connected to the receiver. I have followed all troubleshooting steps and spent at least 4 hours on this. Power cycling fixes it, only till the TV is turned off again. In the Bravia Sync device list the Denon appears as “AVR-4311” but after turning the TV off and then ON, it appears as “Sound System” and there is no audio.
Great video, however I am returning my Bose 900 for a soundbar with HDMI pass through as I can't resolve the audio sync issue. Have gone through all these steps, appreciate the video 👍
I see you have a Bose sound bar, please tell me which setting do you have in the settings on the Bose Music App that allows volume control via Sony 2021 model TV remote?
Thanks very much for this awesome video, Recently I bought Sony X80K 75" TV and I was facing the problem - no audio from my home theatre. After watching this video my problem is resolved and I am very much happy.
I have a Nakamichi sound bar and LG C1 TV. That full reset you mentioned (from Nakamichi) works, but only for awhile before I have to do it all over again. I'm not really interested in having to continuously power everything off and unplug/replug all my HDMI cables every few weeks so I ditched eARC and went back to optical. It's so frustrating. I have a hard time understanding how this is still an issue with new devices.
Thank you so much. Had a family function today and the ARC wasn't working..now my 8 year old niece can watch Hocus Pocus 2 with Surround sound. Thank you 😊
Hello Jonah I have a quick question. I am using the e-ARC HDMI por on my LG TV but after connect it I see the Dolby Atmos option grayed out which is driving me crazy. On your video on minute 3:36 I just saw that you also have this grayed out. Is this OK? Thanks for your feedback.
Amazing video, so I'm wondering if I can use an AV with a burned ARC port, if I connect the TV throw its ARC door to output the sound, the AV can take the sound from an HDMI port?
Great info. Where sould my cable box be connected to? I have it (and other stuff) connected to my avr. When I try to watch a streaming service on my tv, the sound of the cable box channel keeps playing.
After hours of trying to figure out my problem the HDMI refresh worked! TV detected my home theater automatically and I can control the volume using the TV remote. Thanks!
Here's my issue!! I have a Samsung tv, and the ARC is hdmi 2 which is connected into my ARC in my denon receiver. My cable box is hdmi 3. How do I get my audio and video from my receiver when my cable box is hdmi3? Even my Netflix uses the TV speakers. I have no audio experience Thanks
Great video thanks 🙏 I wanted to know why my Apple TV 4K only works in the hdmi arc port this stops me using a soundbar needing the hdmi arc, the lg tv only has 1 hdmi arc port. I guess I’m missing something but gone through tv settings and can’t see anything. Any advice?
Very odd, Xbox is in hdmi 1, hdmi 2 (arc) Apple TV, hdmi 3 empty. So tried putting Apple TV in hdmi 1 and it functions and Xbox in hdmi 3 no signal, maybe the hdmi 3 just doesn’t work but I’ve never used it.!! 🤔
Thanks so much for this video, fixed an issue I had with my TCL TV and my JBL soundbar. Turns out I had to select Auto instead of PCM in the digital audio output setting
OH MY GOD THANK YOU! All I had needed to was unplug my 2013 Samsung HD tv. You just saved me from throwing this tv out of the second floor window of our condominium💯
None of these worked for my TV remote issue, but this was all good to know in the future. Have a Samsung q90b, sonos Arc My solution for fixing the remote issue was going to “connected Devices” on the left side of the Home Screen. Then I went to “universal remote setup” and I selected the type of sound device that was already connected to the TV. I proceeded to follow the TV instructions from there on.
Hey john! It's worked with me! Thanks a lot. I have a Samsung Series 6(4K) TV and a Yamaha RX-V683 AV receiver. I tried many ways and nothing solved. Checked firmware updates (both are updated) and nothing. I did factory reset on my TV and ARC not back. I did a HDMI refresh on TV and Still not working. My last try was on my AV hdmi refresh. Turn off power on wall and I unplugged all 3 plugs. Turned on power and plugged back one by one hdmi cable and ARC is back! Thanks buddy! This problem started after I'm back from a five day trip that I had turn off all power cables because lightning storm It's pretty common in Rio de Janeiro for this season.
Hi. Nice channel. I have a uq75 Lg tv I have an arc hdmi port on my tv which is hdmi 2. But from what I know the arc port is also E arc I thought that in order to get the full benefits of E arc it had to have it's own hdmi port. I didn't think it could be shared with the Arc port. Am I getting the full benefits of E Arc even though it doesn't have a seperate hdmi E Arc port? Or does the tv have to have a sperate E Arc hdmi port. Also This tv does not have Dolby atmos. But My Klipsch cinema 800 sound bar has it. Am I getting the full benefits of Dolby Atmos even though the tv doesn't have it but the soundbar does. What would be the benefits to having both the tv and the soundbar having Atmos at the same time. Should I go out and buy another tv One with Atmos?
I've been troubleshooting soundbar problems for two days. I've tried all of these. Nothing seemed to work, but now it is better, but not perfect. Samsung smart OLED TV S95D with Fire Stick. Brand new Hisense soundbar. Both are HDMI eARC compatible. The sound is always good, but the soundbar interferes with TV video playback. Causes freezes, stops, stutters, glitches. With soundbar turned off, it works perfectly. After trying all these fixes, it seems better, but it's hard to tell, since the problems occur after a few minutes of use or after a few hours. Fingers crossed.
I wish that they would have stayed with RCA style cables or optical. Never had an issue. I tried some trouble shooting fixes. After watching your video I will try all of them. The main issue is that I lost sound while watching a movie.I tired reseting the Yamaha receiver and the roku. Did not work. After that there was no signal, no picture yet I could get some sound. Swapped cables and regained picture but no sound. The LG oled tv stated that the connection was established with the roku. My receiver indicated that the roku connection was established. Confusing😱. For now I am listening for sound at the optical line. I also noticed that on the LG tv the e-arc for HDMI 2 was missing, so where did it go? I reestablished that connection but with no results🤯.I will mess with it later and hopefully fix this issue. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Jonah, I solved the issue with my tv HDMI ARC port discontinuing to recognize my Sonos Arc. I unplug the power supplies, HDMI cable and reset the HDMI hubs on my Samsung TV.
Ive been trying to figure out how to connect my Samsung TV, Samsung Q series soundbar with my new Apple TV 4K 2022 for 2 weeks. I watched your video and I had it working great 5 minutes after. I finally have Dolby Atmos Sound! Thanks for the info!
Thanks! Unplugging and then re-plugging my Sony A/V Receiver solved my problem. Unfortunately, I had already reset my LG Smart TV back to factory defaults, so I had to re-download all the apps and go through all the settings to customize, log back in to all the apps, etc. Hey, do you know why sometimes while I'm playing Nintendo Switch the screen suddenly goes black for a few seconds and then the Sony seems to re-detect the source?
I have had a similar issue with an Oled TV and a dolby Atmos soundbar while using an Nvidia Shield. After trying a bunch of different cables - from cheap to expensive certified cables and using the soundbar as a passthrough but eding up with video degradation - probably because of the bad quality of the passthrough of the soundbar I couldn't get a stable signal on dolby vision. My solution was to set all my AV sync off on the TV and on the soundbar and use the audio delay function on the Nvidia shield. I am now set on +250ms on standard content and +300ms on Dolby Atmos content and that has fixed my issues as I now can use the ARC port and my picture comes straight from the shield to the TV. If you dont have a shield as your media device, and you have exhausted all the mentioned "fixed" in the video, I would start playing with the audio delay on the soundbar itself.
The OLED TV isn’t a LG, is it? I had a lot of issues with HDMI video and audio (no signal at all on a LG OLED 55 C1)and finally decided to read the manual. Buried in it was a statement that said HDMI maximum cable length was 3 meters. Mine were 10 foot. I swapped them for some cheap eBay 6 foot cables and problem solved. I still do not know why, but it was the cable length.
@@tommarbach6483 It is LG C1 but my cable is only a meter long and certified one as well so that's not the issue. I just had to fiddle with the audio Sync setting on the shield to fix it and now all is good :)

Thx. again.
Have this worked for me when 5 other videos did not. Specifically the pass through section. Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you !!! Finally had the hdmi arc work... This content is very helpful ...god bless you
Great video solved my problem , kept muting whilst viewing, unplugged reset excellent. now i can view all my 3d blueray.
Thank You! Solved the problem 3 minutes into the Video!
You are awesome!!!! I had a storm while I was at work and my beam wasn't connecting to my tv. I gave the good old turned my tv off for 30 seconds and turned it back on and worked instantly. Liked
Thank you for your help! Wow! 4 minutes into your video and you solved my new sound bar/ tv problem. Thanks you again!
The HDMI refresh solved my issues with my Soundbar and LG C1 thanks for the video! I spent hours power cycling, re plugging cables in and out, never thought unplugging Everything and powering down would do the trick.
Are you even able to get Dolby Atmos to play through your soundbar? That's my problem. I have the C1 as well.
The alleged automatic upgrade function on my Apple TV has never worked. After watching this post, I checked and an upgrade was needed. The annoying audio delay has disappeared completely, thanks to your advice.
As I reached the end point of the video, arc just started working! Thanks for that!!
Man, my audio video equipment finally does it job! Thanks a lot man!
Thank you so much! I have watched so many videos and couldn't find any solutions. I fixed it right off with your video.
Thank u very much! The reset hdmi worked. Removed all and plugged off. Waited a few minutes and as soon as turned it on all right.
Watched a bunch of videos before this and the hard reset worked great. Thanks Jonah
Good information but the problem I have is the the sound drops for a quick second it hard to watch anything with the sound dropping. every few minutes.
Never heard about the HDMI refresh. Gonna try that. Thanks.
Thanks for the video man, my sound bar stopped working this morning before leaving for work and I couldn’t figure it out, unplugging and plugging hdmi back into my sound bar would work for about a second and then silence again and Bluetooth worked fine
Doing your “hdmi reset” did the job though and everything’s working again, had this setup for almost a year and zero issues until now
I have a Sony A80J, Sonos Soundbar, and Nvidia Shield. The sound sync and volume are incredible. Very pleased with the combination.
What am I missing?
same issue here
HDMI refresh worked for me after trying anything and everything. Thank you very much!
I was having an issue where the volume controls UI would pop up on the screen every minute. This started happening after I factory reset the TV (due to another reason). It was driving me crazy. I tried so many thing, but the fix was to do the HDMI refresh. THANK YOU!!!
Thanks for the informative video. I am a 3rd party service provider for Best Buy and run into these issues from time to time
@Jonah - I recently upgraded my main TV from a Sony XBR-75X940D (2016) and moved this TV to my bedroom.
I have sound bar that supports ARC should I enable eARC on TV?
Great video, however I am returning my Bose 900 for a soundbar with HDMI pass through as I can't resolve the audio sync issue. Have gone through all these steps, appreciate the video 👍
I see you have a Bose sound bar, please tell me which setting do you have in the settings on the Bose Music App that allows volume control via Sony 2021 model TV remote?
Thanks very much for this awesome video, Recently I bought Sony X80K 75" TV and I was facing the problem - no audio from my home theatre. After watching this video my problem is resolved and I am very much happy.
Thank you. The HDMI refresh worked like a charm!!!
Thank you, the unplugging of TV and soundbar and let it sit for 10-15 minutes worked!
Wondering if it's hdmi cec related. Have you kept all other devices unplugged from the tv or soundbar to see if the issue continues?
This worked! I cutted the power and then on again. Thanks mate💪
You helped me fix it. Thank you!!!!!!! Changing it to passthrough was the solution for me
Thank you so much.
Forgot to add that I’m connecting a Dolby Atmos soundbar to the e-ARC HDMI on my TV
Amazing video, so I'm wondering if I can use an AV with a burned ARC port, if I connect the TV throw its ARC door to output the sound, the AV can take the sound from an HDMI port?
5:50 This is the best placed ad ever 😉
Great info. Where sould my cable box be connected to? I have it (and other stuff) connected to my avr. When I try to watch a streaming service on my tv, the sound of the cable box channel keeps playing.
The HDMI reset worked!!!! Thank you !!!!
Just did a HDMI reset. That did the trick...Thank you so much.
I just want to say thank you I'll be watching your RUclips channel it helped me with my soundbar hdmi EaRC issue
After hours of trying to figure out my problem the HDMI refresh worked! TV detected my home theater automatically and I can control the volume using the TV remote. Thanks!
As far as signal routing, do you prefer sending signal to the TV first and then the audio device or the other way around and why?
Very informative video on ARC.
This video worked well man, i try everything said on this video and the best thing was dumped the tv and bar got a new ones and boom problems solved.
I have no audio experience
Thanks
Switching to “pass through” worked. Thanks 🙏🏼
Have a Samsung q90b, sonos Arc
My solution for fixing the remote issue was going to “connected Devices” on the left side of the Home Screen. Then I went to “universal remote setup” and I selected the type of sound device that was already connected to the TV. I proceeded to follow the TV instructions from there on.
Thanks Jonah, after doing the HDMI refresh the ARC started working again after 2 frustrating days Cheers 👋👍
HDMI Connection refresh fixed the issue on my C1 - thanks so much!
I did everything but there's still a small delay between my LG TV and LG soundbar using EARC. I've tried optical, but it's also delayed.
This video was a great help with my sonos issue Thanks Rich
❤ unplugging components for 5 minutes was the magic solution in my case. Thanks for sharing this video. Extremely helpful.
