Fitting the hand-made dash… will it fit? 😱

- Remember the beautiful, custom made dash Geoff Webster made for us? Well today was the first time fitting it inside the car and it didn't fit. It's interfering with the steering column bracket so we need to figure out how we can modify it so that it fits

I would honestly get either a smaller steering wheel or a shaft that will let the steering wheel tilt so Jolene can see out the window better. And i like how the lighting aluminated under the hood. I would put lighting like that under the hood. I think it would be bad ass! The car is coming along slowly but surely. Great job Chad,Jolene and Nate!!
In my opinion make a footwell, put pedals in it shorten steering column, smaller wheel, raise seat and slide forward ,
Early Mazda Miatas/MX5's have a nice smaller wood MoMo or Nardi steering wheel. It'd be perfect for the power steering on Bugatti. I have a selection, and may yet send one to Chad.
I agree but if you put a small stirring wheel on there you're definitely gonna have to add power stirring
@kelvinboyd7459 it has power steering
I have to agree. The steering wheel is to big, to forward and should tilt down more. It is almost in Jolene's face. Just my opinion. Love the dash BTW.
Fit the dash first then fit the steering column to the dash. The dash is already made to fit the steering is still in the development stage.
fit the dash first
Hi Chad the steering columb is protruding the dash to much could be shortened considerably so its closer to the dash it appears to have heaps of room to do so
Everyone has an opinion but I enjoy watching you assemble the vehicle. This is the toughest part that other shows skip through where all the adjustments happen. It may not be good TV on regular television but your RUclips channel it works just fine.
Keep Nate around great teamwork
Nate keeps him calm and makes sure he does not get ram jammy .... I wish Jolene would speak up when asked her thoughts or opinion's on how things look or feels, she is so passive
Nothing wrong with those enjoying watching having an opinion or not or saying it . We are not mice…and the opinions are respectful ,they can possibly be helpful at times.
Recuerda no se mucho i inglés necesito que alguien este afuera para estar seguro que es el lugar indicado
Hi Chad, Jolene, & Nate, another day of fine tuning, that is the major difference between reassembly work and first time assembly work. With reassembling it is just a matter of remembering how things go together. With you guys assembling things for the first time there is a lot of trial, error, and adjustments with parts going in & out of the vehicle until they are fine tuned. It is alot of work but well worth it in the end, Jolene will be the envy of the town. Jolene great video as always & I love being able to exactly what the guys are doing even in the tight spots like under the dash. It must feel good recording your build for a change. Like Chad said you have been very patient for a long time!
If Shorten the steering column and put on adjustable seat rail on the seat you will be able to slide up seat up to the steering wheel which will make it more comfortable and adjustable😊🎉 I love this show
Nate is a wonderful book of knowledge you are lucky to have him as employee.
maybe another universal joint down at the steering box will allow the shaft to sit different or lower.
Is there any reason you don't shorten up the length of the steering column so the Wheel is not in Jolenes Face ??
It would look better ,l think the seat should be repositioned,
What a pain in the ass that is to fit but Nate is on top of the fabrication. Two minds are better than one for sure on this great job guys. Jolene looks awesome setting in the Bugatti keep up the amazing work ❤️ 👏 😊
@roadwarrior4813 he has taken some of our opinions and used them so get on!!
Power steering… l
Tilt would be perfect. Use this on another project
Steering shaft seems way too long for seating position , can it be shortened ?
It looks too high as well , looks like it will be right in the drivers face.
You might consider a tilt column so Jolene can see..
It’s really great to see the car come together. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I just have one question and I’m not trying to be critical of the process. I’m just trying to understand why the steering column has to be so far into the cabin with that humongous steering wheel on it, I understand the need for the leg height. But if there was a smaller steering wheel, you would be able to lower the column I would think. I know there’s thousands of questions and ideas and there like butt holes everybody got one I’m just trying to figure out a solution. also JoLainie you have been very patient with this car. My hats off to you. 😅
Anytime you hand build a car from scratch, you can expect there will have to be some hand tweeking going on thats necessary to make everything fit together perfectly and function flawlessly. This whole process is very time consuming, but certainly necessary for a high quality outcome. The Bugatti is going to be a very sharp looking car when all has been said and done. Chad and Nathan are doing a great job sorting everything out. Jolene is doing a great job with the camera. Keep up the great work.
Ya its not a easy thing to build any car ! I can't imagine doing a car from a toy or a picture of a toy lol . I built a camaro back in the day ii had parts and pieces bagged and labeled for weeks months years . Hard to remember where everything went annd fit to it was fun to build the best part was the driving it 6 years later
That dash is awesome ! It would be nice to see a view from the front with Jolene sitting in the car to see where her eyes are . Does she look over the steering wheel or threw it ? Alot of the people in chat think the wheel is to high . I think it looks great . It's a process to get it right keep up the awesome work and it will get done !
Jay Leno has one of these and the driving position is the same
Cool car and speaks very loud of a talent that is mastered by Chad's artistry. It is striking how patient he is in taking the time to explain so much detail. The power of love shows for Joline in this very unique automobile, it is so obvious. I see it as a masterpiece of form and function coming directly from his heart. Joline is so deserving of this. Joline, great job with your talents both being so good with your camera and a part of the working crew of course.
What an amazing job. This car is really something.
Wow the peanut gallery is on fire today! Holy Moly let the man work people. You think it's so easy newsflash it ain't!! That's why cars are built in factories. Looks great Champ carry on. 😉✌
Can you take the column back out and fit the dash Then see what has to be done for the column to fit
Love the dash ,but colomn needs to be shorter and tilt for comfort .
That seat is leaning way to far back and that steering wheel is obstructing Jolene's view,Jolene speak up.
It’s pretty exciting seeing the car come together.
I think you put the rubber around glass first. Then using a cord you put glass in and then the crome locks it in place
Wow that dash is going to look sweet ! Nice camera work Jolene and hats off to Chad & Nate in making it work !
That's a beautiful dashboard nice camera work and Chad, Nathan worked out the problem good work guy's
Dash looks stunning.
With a carpet and interior, it’s going to pop.
That Dash is beautiful. Awesome work as always.
Yep! That steering wheel is just waiting to bust a face in a fast stop!… please don’t let Queen Jolene drive it that way . A tilt steering column would be more expensive. But compared to the damage it could do to a pretty face, money shouldn’t matter. Stop being so cheap Chad!
This car will never get done.
Stop watching.
@@forreststewart5940 Its only been over 6 years working on it.
They are doing a great job
With such a beautiful dash , I would put the dash where it looks best. Then put the column in.
Building this car is a Big undertaking. It's nice to have another set of eyes on this such as Nate. Now is when all the problems of fitting everything together starts to show up. I know this will be one big relief for Chad when it's done.
glad to see you guys finishing one
I like the Nate/Chad dynamic on camera. Works well.
Rubber goes on to the glass and then I think a 1/8 inch rope tucks into the grove that goes on to the pinch weld, once you have the rope tucked in hang the two ends crossed over each other over the dash and with some gental pressure on the outside with a flat palm you gentally aplly a we bit of preasure while pulling the rope. Pull the rope out against the pinch weld which flips the lip of the rubber over the pitch weld to inside the car .I also remember doing my sons window in his vw van that the trim went in the rubber after the rubber was mounted on the edge of the glass then the lip flap was pulled over and inside to the back of the pinch weld. I used alittle soap mixed with water in a spray bottle to assist the install. The area should be painted before the rubber and window goes in.Good luck Guys.
Dash Going well chad ,no negativity from me 👍
Goin to be alot of fine adjustments I believe...but its a process and everything is subject to change as it progresses...looking good guys..cya tomorrow
She looks really good sitting in it
Great to see some more work being done on the Bugatti rep. I get nervous watching you guys fitting and refitting that beautiful wooden dash though. even though your careful one simple mistake and it could easily be damaged. I would also be covering up that finished seat and have it adjustable rails so the steering wheel was sat back further towards the dash it just looks so wrong stuck out so far.. Not my build though and its these final details that are so important now before tearing down again for the body paint. Looking amazing and will be a fabulous finished car.
Can't begin to tell you how much I enjoy your work. Well done! Great skills and creativity! Thank you guys for sharing.
That steering column is to long
Its looking good, You must be pleased.
Why not install a tilt column?
Did they have a tilt column back the
Looks great. This masterpiece will feel amazing to drive, like a toy, its like an cartoon dreamly car, congratz Jolene!
This is the definition of prototyping in real time!
Rotate the dash ball mount, drill new holes. Or make new alum ring that has tapped holes for bolts, may need to be thicker.
Dash looks awesome 😊
Jolene ❤you got to be so excited to see the last pecies coming to a final . We are to ! Chad annd Nathan are doing a great job itll be sooner than you can spit ! Thumbs-up Jolene and Chad and team Hiltz this has been and still is A EPIC BUILD !
Love watching the Bugatti go back together ❤
Personally I think the wheel is extended way to far ( looks dangerous ) do those seats adjust at all? Starting to feel like a over priced 9 year go-cart build lol... it's all the painstaking work of making things user-friendly
I’m wondering if that car will get certified with that column so high and close . That being said the car is turning out to be quite something. Nate is certainly been huge in getting the car engine set up and running.👍👍🇨🇦
It is a Clone what certification?
@@dmarr35 Safety Certified to operate on the roads I assume is what he means.
First fix the dashboard without steering column. Then try to fix steering
It looks like dash is seesawing on 2x4 steel under the centre of dash not allowing end corners to drop into place
Chad your work is amazing. I love the respect you give to Jolene. And the excitement you bring to the show.
Bad Chad and Queen Jolene, are worth watching daily, their content is tasteful, they are connoisseurs, modern day artists, and boy howdy damn glad to be a subscriber!!! Keep up the fantastic work Chad and Jo! We appreciate you dearly!
the seat needs to be adjustable to take jolene forward to the steering wheel not mount the sreering wheel to her
Wrong
Black out the bottom of the windshield, like they do in newer cars. 👍👍👍
Cannot believe I am here, and all three of you are doing fine adjustment of BUGOTTI dash, etc. This is what I hoped I would get to see. This cannot get better. Thank you for doing Jolenes car. Not easy, but SO SO FINE. WOW🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Real Fine - Don't forget a fancy radio/CD Player!
What about the stainless pieces for the firewall. You have so much room? Or did I miss something? Chad your real lucky to have NATE.
It’s been a little painful to watch but I’m still with you. Holding my breath at times. Thank god you two are patient.
This isn't just a car, It's a work Of elegance and beauty.

There is a seam where the rubber was put together goes at the bottom in the middle. The chrome is put on the rubber them both go on the glass. Then insert a thin rope or cord in rubber overlapping rope about foot. Apply soap and water around window and opening. Center window and light pressure on front of window then pull rope evenly allowing rubber to flip over lip. Don’t allow window to slip up on the top. Once rope is out window should be in.
I've always heard, it's not how great of a car builder you are, but how good of a magician you are 🤔
I bin watching him build this car from the beginning, And just get's better with every little bit more done. It's enthralling, entertaining. And Joeline permitting, he might just even get to drive it.
with a custom build like the Bugati, things may never fit on the first attempt, Chad and Nathan will work it out...that dash is just STUNNING..great job Chad and Jolene...😃😃
Go back and look at the old videos of you making the template for the dash, the dash fit correctly. you have it at a different angle.
Put black tint along the bottom of the front windshield so you can't see the cracks between the dash and windshield. You can also just cut and move the metal bar across the underside of the dash to adjust
Terrific video showing the Talents of Chad, Nathan and Joleen. Wondering if some of installs from yesterday & today have to be removed to install the Firewall🤔
So funny seeing Nate bring ideas and solutions to the table and watch Chad's head spin. They work really well together.
Can you tell me what plans you have for turning signal switch
The steering wheel placement looks ugly. I really hope that you don't leave it in the position it's in. Its placement destroyed the entire look.
chad you should have a piece of plastic pipe to slide down over the steering shaft untill you get done in that area
I would get a different column. I can imagine Jolene face while you are trying to fit this.
Run with this bad boy all the details are cool to see
I've got to get some of the shop lights your using in the engine compartment. WOW.
Hey Chad here in Melbourne Australia we use the guard on the grinders to stop any injuries from the grinding disc, I see that you have removed the guard maybe caused your injury, love the show keep up the great work
Nice progress.
Every body seems to be complaining about the steering column being too long or too high the steering wheel is too big look at pictures of the original car it’s the same way chad and Jolene are building it as close to the original as they can
Tilt, adjustable, power steering would add uniqueness to your car !
Just remember he built the dash the way you wanted it I believe he tryed it several times with you guys watching
The Chinese say progress is made by “Two Steps Forward and One Step Back”. Good Advise especially for a Custom Built Car. Nathan and Chad’s attitudes are amazing.
Very cool lighting in the engine bay!
The properly sized glass is self, will stretch the seal rubber.
You are doing a wonderful job on it keep up the amazing work on it
looks fantastic Team.
love the walnut look of the timber dash - what is the wood exactly?
Going to look a million dollars once finished.
The dash is Pomelle Sapele
Love watching nate and Doug work with you..seem like they are real loyal mates..❤
You have do great job with every car that you work on it
Dash is beautiful.
Joleen please google how to put rubber in for boggotti windshield lol
might want to check that the steering wheel being in the view of the road ahead isn't an inspection failure.
You need a tilt column
And teiscopic would be good
Looking good guys!
She looks great in the car 😮
Great job y'all 😊
I’m laughing so hard at those two I can’t take it
That steering wheel just seems too high. Not meaning to be an ass, just an opinion 🙂
I would go with a shorter steering wheel shaft. in an accident her face would hit the steering wheel squarely. perhaps a smaller steering wheel unless you need the diameter to make steering easier. I hope you are planning on racing seat belts and perhaps a "tilt wheel" to make getting in & out easier. It looks really great - you have lots of patience; it is obviously a labor of love.
Turn signals, heater vents, steering wheel is BIG...tilt would help❤
This is so exciting to watch the progress on the Bugatti
For everybody that wants changes like me. they will get the car to 97% operational and then make small changes when they feel like it. right now they're going to get the car operational with what they have💥💥
FINA!!!
Un beau travail fait avec précisions ...congrest ...Thanks Yolene and Chad ...
Column would look so much better if it was at least 6" shorter.
