This song chokes me to my core with emotion. I've cried to it as I try to sing along for YEARS now.
JP is the best, most under rated guitar player that I know of.
He is awesome!!!
25 or 30 years ago my late wife and I attended MerleFest, in western North Carolina. We were sitting at the main stage one afternoon when a new act was introduced. It consisted of a guitarist, someone playing the keyboards, and a bassist. I had never heard of the guitarist, but after that one set - the only time I've ever seen him live, unfortunately - I was a fan. I've been a fan ever since, and Kelly's Mountain is still my favorite.
J.p. you are truly blessed by god to be given and acquired sutch divine talents. May you always play and sing in this life and the next.
Great performance by all. JP’s playing is as slick as it ever was.
I've always loved collaborations between classical and non-classical musicians, and this is one of the most seamless ones I've seen! I admit this is an odd comparison, but the virtuosity and storytelling on display here put me in mind of Billy Joel breaking into Rootbeer Rag!
Besides JP's stellar playing, how about his voice ?
Man. he sings real good.
And this song is such a beautiful tragedy.
I love the way he starts with the chorus, and as he sings the verses, more and more meaning comes as he repeats the chorus
and the last time is a heartbreaker.
What a wonderful song! Well written and so well played. We love that Big John!
This is killer! Wow, so good JP!!!
great verison! Even better than the one on the album!
Damn it J.P. I've been watching your guitar reviews and didn't realize what a badass you are man! Seriously kudos!!!!!
Well done ~ had my Nancy & I tapping along and thinking of home. I've been on Kelly's mountain and a fine place it is - thank you JP & all the other fine performers
